Never got the hate for the LOST ending. It was predominantly a character show so thought that ending was perfect personally.

Always hated this bullshit.

Nobody watched the show for Jack or Kate, they watched for the mystery of the Island.

If this show was set in New York City without any mystery, then it would have been canceled immediately.

I won't say it's a GOAT show, but it's one of my favorite, and I liked the ending.

When people make bad statements like you did, I feel he need to shit on it, because it's nonsensical.

It wasn't predominantly a character show, because if it was, it'd just be called Party of 5. Not LOST.

You seem to have taken my comments personally. Im not discounting the mystery side. Thats the glue that holds everything together. But its used as a framework for the character side. Like most decent shows are tbh. Theres a reason 50% of every episode is dedicated to flashbacks etc flushing out everyones character.

The mystery is what draws you in but without the character work it wouldnt be anywhere near as successful as it was.

Just to reiterate Im not discounting the mystery side at all.

Yes the quality definitely dipped the last few seasons when they decided to abandon the character side and go more out with the mystery side. I think it all came together in the end though. Season 3 is probably the peak.

At least they admitted to bad writing instead of blaming it on their characters, i.e. "Dany forgot about the Iron Fleet."

I'm a Lost fan

but I have qualms voting against GoT in this capacity. Why pit the two against each other anyway? Id suggest Lost vs Twin Peaks, but it would, well, lose

Lost vs X-Files?

Tbh, always kinda viewed GoT as a guilty pleasure. Find the fandom confusing

Doesn't it sort of leave the original mystery of the island unsolved if they were in an alternate reality/afterlife?

Maybe they intended for the fans to piece it together many years later

how interesting could the truth possibly be tho? I think there were probably numerous possible plotlines (Jack as the villain, Locke as the villain, Kate as the villain, Sawyer as the villain, etc) which more or less became more and more impossible as the show went on, from Season 1 onward actually. Sounds like great material for a documentary but I feel I'm now beginning to tread ground already thoroughly covered

A mysterious force at the center of the island

Maybe it was supposed to be a spaceship after all, with a control room, a key, all buried in the rock, reflecting the various arcs of the show as one :)

youre objectively wrong. Also likely the reason Damon Lindelof and Jonathan Nolan went way out of their way to be as clear as possible to people that the leftovers was also a character driven show and the mystery just supplements that.

I maintain that the plot points GoT wanted to hit on were fine but they were rushed. The showrunners said that George RR Martin had given them the bullet points of what he intended to do with the books and it really felt like that is what happened with Season 7/8. The showrunners had bullet points but didn't have the creative ability, or interest because they had a Star Wars Movie Trilogy at the time waiting for them, to put together the proper connective tissue to get there. The last 3 episodes of GoT felt like it should have been an entire 10 episode season by itself.

No I'm right.

Not a single person tuned into the premier to see character plots. They tuned it because the marketing pinned it as an Island Mystery.

As I said, they could have put all these same characters in a pub in NYC and not a single person would have watched it.

As for the Leftovers, you understood from the start that it was never about why anything happened, but what happened because of it. I believe there's even narration in the Pilot that explicitly states this.

How a show/movie is marketed and what it ends up being are not always the same thing.

YOU wanted the show to be the mystery of the island and consider it a "bad" show becasue it didn't turn out to be what YOU wanted.

The last few seasons of GOT have ruined the show as a whole.

LOST however has at least maintained its quality throughout its run and on re watches the show gets better especially the ending.

LOST is top 5 of all time for great television, GOT is unwatchable after season 5.
