I think I went through 5 360's... or 6. Only had 1 xbox one that was still working after 8 years.
Oh, as for ps2 I only had 2, because I had my first one opened up to clean the laser off, and someone decided that was the perfect time to cause the top shell to fall over and rip the ribbon cable clean out of the board. I couldn't fix it, so I replaced it. I then noticed on the second one that the power/eject buttons were fixed to the bottom half and no longer had the ribbon cable disaster capability. I wonder how many met their demise that way.

I'm still on my OG Xbox 360 because I didn't buy it at launch, and also I've used it sparingly. I didn't go hard on Halo and other FPS.

The PS2 was lightning in a bottle. It was the cheapest DVD player at the time and had an absolute shit ton of games on it, let of which werent available anywhere else, because Nintendo fucked up with cartridges and mini-discs two generations in a row so their storage medium simply couldnt hold most games.

The 360, probably. I had an Elite one that died eventually and U got the redo later. Sold it to a friend a year or two ago.

Iirc there was a known issue with the disc reader in some models. Im not sure about actual numbers but it was pervasive enough for Sony to fix it, no questions asked when customers called tech support.

I had a launch edition ps2. I have gone through 3 of them total. All DRE plagued. I had a launch edition 360. It died not from rrod but after years of heavy use it just stopped reading discs.

I know it is anecdotal but the ps2 was the most unreliable system for me. I would even pop them open to clean to keep them working.

360 got big early because it was cheaper than the ps3 and came out before it. It also had the better online infrastructure for a long time and it hit just at the right time as interest in online console play taking off.

I am to understand the ps3 caught up for many reasons but the 360 never got much of a footprint in Japan so that drug it down.

After my 360 died I just got an elite. It still works fine.

As an aside, I got a wii u the day it came out. It broke within two days. Wouldn't turn on and the light would just blink. Just weird because N usually makes reliable stuff.

For what its worth, my PS2 broke because I was playing From Russia With Love, and during a driving sequence I yanked back in the controller. The cord was caught in the leg of my chair, and it jerked the PS2 off the dresser. It landed on its top with the disc still spinning, and whenever I ran it after that the disc drive made a noise that just made me afraid it would fuck up the discs.

Nice. I think my most recent PS2 still works but it's been years since I checked. I had 3 PS2's and 3 360's fail on me.

Everyone I know that had an original fat PS2 had them break multiple times. The slim PS2 was infinitely better and I've got one that is 20 years old & still running.

But the PS2 also sold a lot due to backwards compatibility & the amazing game library.

Never had an issue with my PS2 despite heavy use.

Went through 3 360s , and decided the 4th would be the last microsoft console I ever got. Have been strictly PS since.

Launch model PS2s were known for defects in their disc lasers. So much so, that they were sued over it (IIRC) and forced to replace all of them for free every time. I know this because it happened to me. I sent my launch model in at least four times before my mom just bought a new one.

But those were just the launch models, which were quickly phased out. The PS2 sold so well because it was a good console with a great library.

Nintendo is repeating this too

My only issue with the PS2 was when I had a ton of trouble getting Star Ocean 3 working. Bought the game brand new and it would freeze at the same spot every time. So I took it to gamestop to show them and they gave me a used PS2 to see if it would work better than my PS2. Froze at the same place every time. After trying a few different PS2's and multiple copies of the game with the same results, they upgraded me to a PS2 Slim at no extra charge. No problems after that.

The 360 though, was a nightmare. Got the RRoD more than once and it would take weeks for Microsoft to send the console back after repairs.

Ah yeah you had one of those PS2's who's laser had trouble reading the dual-layered DVDs. Conveniently enough, all those old PS2's they had also had trouble reading them, lol.

I don't think there was too many of those types of games, but star ocean 3 is one of them. (Well at least the director's cut version/the version of the game we had localized in NA and UK).
