The Triangle Strategy song is so silly with actually singing the words "Triangle Strategy" non-ironically that it that it becomes very charming in a roundabout way and elevates the song. I don't think that was their intention, but whatever works I guess.

If you left out the game name and told me ARCANA was from one of the Caligula Effect games, I would 100% believe you. Awful luck for Lunar Bass as that's a banger too.

Scarlet/Violet were the first mainline Pokmon games to boldly ask the daring question, "What if our games didn't have dogshit music?". This is a pretty great song, I ***really*** hope the series continues with music like this because so far I've only heard one SV song I haven't cared for.

Oh god, why do they namedrop the game title so much, haha. It sounds so silly, but I guess being the only lyric I understand makes it cool. I enjoy this singers trio with different ranges. This song feels pretty fit for a modern SRPG, I find quite solid. It gets so good in the final minute though, it's frenetic and awesome! And the bridge leading to it is great too. Yeah, this is a tough competitor, I love it to bits. Amazing job! Anyways, onto the song that would be my ideal runner-up had it not been this early. Sigh... So my story with this song is that when I was small and I played in the homonymous stage, it was my least favorite. It sounded so non-music and confusing to me. As I grew up I learned about other more alternative areas of music (cough cough Santana cough cough Chimeratio). So I was skimming about in Smash remixes and I relistened to this, and my mind was blown away. From the flooring intro to the fantastic body of the song to the mysterious noises in the end. This song is like one of the biggest examples why I find Smash Brawl a musical masterpiece: it takes a lot of songs that are in a not-very-known position, wether for 2008 or today, and rolls them through completely unconventional styles, like an arrange album, and they all sounds fantastic. It's absolutely magical, I tell you. Oh, also mind you, the original song is a 8-bit, throughly ambiental-esque, and it makes it more captivating how it got turned into this. I love this so much, I could listen for hours. It's great. Bless you, Koshiro! All that charade aside, I would have voted Triangle Strategy over most of the songs in B1, it's so so great. VGMC is a cruel place. Go forth, Samus!

Onto B2... Dang, Cascaraffa is very uplifting! Kinda invites me for a good ol' city stroll. The different leads all work very well too. I think this captures the magic of Pokmon city music very well, it's awesome. Okay, FTL fits the space tone to a T. The vocals are spread out in a interesting way and the instrument choices fall in a good balance of epic and spacial. The bridge is really good as well. Tough match here, very tough! Hmm... okay, going for Stellaris, but I am happy with anyone winning. They're both really awesome at what they do, and I know I've said this before, but this time I will emphasize it. Huge match here.

Oh, this is so damn good. The vocals hit me in the right vibes and the loud parts hit great. Nevermind the intro that hits like a truck. The second part is really really good as well. Amazing metal here. Can it be topped? Oh my moons, the second half of Lunar Bass is superb, courtesy of Funk Fiction. The first half is a very nice beat and then the funky part and the beautiful strings takeover. Spark is a soundtrack that manages to surprise me when I'm least expecting it, and this is no exception, it's great. Now, what to choose? Iiiii think I'll pick Arcana but with a slight edge. I don't know, it's so metal.

Jeez, this matches should be given a hefty fine, this is Round 3 material at the lowest. See how much I've ranted? Well, if anything I'm happy I can enjoy every song to the fullest, it speaks well about this year's field!

Song of TRIANGLE STRATEGY is pure comedy gold. I laughed so hard when the opera singer came in and sang TRIangle STRATegeeeee with as much sincerity as she could muster. Fucking hilarious. I don't think it was supposed to be funny. 6/10

I had no idea Yuzo Koshiro made a Norfair remix. I played Brawl and I cannot for the life of me ever remember hearing this track. It's really good. I've always been a big fan of the original Norfair theme, it's weird and alien, and this makes it really groove in an unconventional way. 9/10

I don't like or dislike Cascarrafa. Not really a big fan of the rock organ. The rest is just *very* Pokemon. It's whatever. 5.5/10

Faster Than Light was boring and the singing's too sappy. This is another one of those where it might have had a lot of emotional impact on a different day, in a different context, but as it is it means nothing to me. 4/10

I was making a joke about "bad anime trash" in the discord earlier. Anyway, unrelated, Arcana gets a 2/10

Lunar Bass wins this fourpack by default! Good job, buddy! 6.5/10

close call on the second match, not really feeling either right now but i think i'm lower on cascarrafa than usual since it's so... just standard hitomi sato town theme to me, literally feels like a song i already heard 30 times over in gen 4 or 5, and while i am more than satisfied with that usually, it really doesn't stick out among them

Song of TRIANGLE STRATEGY: Normally lyrics don't bother me, but when they get excessively repetitive and awkward like in this one, it brings the song down a lot for me. The bridge around the 3 minute mark is lovely, but the rest just doesn't hit the mark unfortunately.

Norfair: This arrangement has grown on me quite a bit over the years. Really cool synths and production. The e-guitar screams in the background are a nice touch as well. Very cool song.

Cascarrafa: This is pleasant, but it doesn't really do anything to stand out to me. Don't have a lot else to say on it, although part of the melody reminds me of the motif from THE WORLD REVOLVING in Deltarune.

Faster Than Light: The first half is a bit slow, but it's very pretty. But once the synth kicks in in the second half, that's when this song gets really good. Cool song.

ARCANA: Some of the rhythms in the metal sections are cool, but I feel the Jpop vocals and melodic structure clash a lot with the metal, and it doesn't work great. Songs like this can work, but I don't feel this one is well-executed.

Lunar Bass: 1:45 is where this song gets really cool. Some neat production, cool rhythms in the percussion, solid melody, and the piano parts are great. Very well-made song.

Very mixed day, but at least the songs I didn't like as much are all against songs I do like, making all three of these votes very easy for me.

MATCH 1

Song of Triangle Strategy is a really cool song that has a steady and smooth progression with how it changes up the different things it does. I really start to get into the song after 1:09 when the drums come in. There are some cool transitions throughout the song, but the one Id highlight the most is at 4:08 when the drums go from that steady 1-2-3-4 to a 1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and. Gives it so much more energy with those extra drum hits and the guitar solo only adds to that.

Norfair has this interesting almost cyberpunk feel to it at the beginning that turns into this dancey beat. The synth melody at 0:54 is pretty neat, especially when layered over those stabbing strings at 1:03. Pretty cool song! But Song of Triangle Strategy is more my kind of song.

MATCH 2

Love that intro to Cascarrafa! The synth melody is really bright and catchy. The rest of the song is pretty cool too, but the intros definitely the highlight of the song to me. Though, I also find the clarinet melody catchy.

Faster Than Light has a neat somber tone to it with good vocals. Not much to say about it, but I unfortunately prefer the catchiness of Cascarrafa here.

MATCH 3

ARCANA has some very cool stuff going on with the j-metal sound. There are a few parts I dont really like, such as 2:39, but other than that, I like it! Though, despite that, I get this sense that I feel with anime sounding songs sometimes that even though I like the style and everything, it feels like its missing something that pushes it over the top. I dont know what that thing is for ARCANA, but compared to something like the Caligula songs Id push to the top of my favorites bracket in years past, ARCANA just doesnt feel as engaging to me for some reason, which holds it back from being really good as opposed to just good.

Lunar Bass is a really cool song from start to finish! I love the different melodies that go on throughout the song from the keyboard in the beginning to the violins after the drop. This is a really solid match, but I feel pretty comfortable voting Lunar Bass here as the more engaging song that I feel more strongly about.

Okay, so TriStrat's lyrics are extremely dumb, not even just the part where they say Triangle Strategy (though that's the worst part), but I love the rest of the song. It'd be one of my favs if not for that. I much prefer the Super Metroid version of Norfair to this one.

Cascarrafa is perfectly cromulent BGM. Had FTL winning in my favs bracket, but man, it's so much more boring than I remembered...

I'm mostly pretty into Arcana, except for the breakdown. Lunar Bass is more consistent, but doesn't reach the same peaks. Think I'll take the song that's better at its best.
