I think a healthy Biden would have still been better, but it's fantastic to see decisive action from Democrats at last! I assumed that once Democrats progressively started to realize the stakes of the election that Biden would poll better as it approached - hardly without precedent given at this time in the 2012 election Obama was polling 9 percentage points below Romney and we saw how THAT worked out.

I swear I'm the only one in this topic who has not been particularly alarmed by Trump polling ahead of Biden, but that's a story for another time.

Like...if the obvious best candidate was a man, yeah, sure, pick him up. But the Biden/Harris camp was always eyeing the northeast as the only swing states they need to hold, grabbing a New England VP feels pretty logical. Like Gretchen Whitmer was floated at one point (governor of Michigan) obviously for very similar reasons.

Also, I think the political environment is different than it was in 2016. Pro abortion has been killing it at the voting booths ever since Roe v Wade was overturned. Just seems like a more friendly political climate for a double woman ticket.

I think a dual woman ticket would work. But if they really want to make the GOP sweat?

Jasmine Crockett. Galvanizes the youth, black, and woman vote and puts an attack dog on the scene. Not to mention it would put Texas in play.

if the first and third vids come off as 'normal' then i'm not sure what to tell you really. second one does have some of that, which is my point; if she gets to talk more normally magically she's also laughing more normally. unfortunately for her she's got a hardcore case of the business laugh in most speeches and interviews, all carrying the same inflection, pattern, timing, etc. literally all of those are fake and it's notable just because of how often it happens. like it couldn't be such an easy line of attack if it wasn't. hell, if we went back to when she was running most of you probably said the same damn thing.

One factor about the upcoming DNC though:

What if Obama forces the delegates to make a sharp left turn to abandon Harris, and his pick for president, whatever that maybe, is there actual no choice but to follow through option.

Lately, it seems Obama has the power to in some way call the shots for the Democratic party.

My hot take is that the read that this plays into "Dems in Disarray" is completely wrong. If anything it's the opposite. The stereotype is that Dems are wishy-washy wimps that can't make a decision, but to most people this is going to read as Dems making a decisive, ballsy decision. And it's a decision that poll after poll after poll has shown that the vast majority of voters *wanted* Democrats to make. Kamala Harris might end up being an awful nominee, so it might have been a mistake on that level, but on a narrative/momentum level, I don't see how this doesn't benefit Democrats.

Because youre giving up the advantage of incumbency in favor of someone who was so bad at running for president that Tulsi Gabbard put her into the ground.

As someone who was not sold on this being winning strategy, particularly before it happened, past poor performance in a presidential bid is indicative of absolutely nothing. Besides Obama, the last president who didn't fumble a previous primary I think was Carter.

I mean don't act like she wasn't on the presidential ticket months later either. And if you say that doesn't matter, I have to assume you were in a coma in 2008.

We were going to be relying on Harris campaigning skills even if Biden were still the candidate. I guess we'd also have less misogyny (her laugh) and racism (birtherism) to deal with, but those can also alienate voters.

Kamala's more recent campaign appearances have been different too. I think she's a stronger candidate now by far than she was in 2020. (And that was a super crowded field with juggernauts like Joe Biden (former VP) and Bernie Sanders (Runner up in the previous primary).

It's certainly nowhere near in the bag (though it should be. She's 20 years younger than the alternative, not a felon, and doesn't want to institute christo-fascism But this is America, so of course it will be very close.) We've got a lot of work to do.

(Also how hilarious will it be if Kamala wins, and then also wins Time's person of the year over Trump! That would make him SO mad)

She was put into the ground by a fuckin welterweight man. Its not like she ran and simply didnt gain traction like Jay Inslee. She ran and got humiliated due to her exceptionally poor skills as a campaigner.

She ran for veep at a time where basically no campaigning was needed (and if not for a fly completely stealing the show, her poor performance vs pence wouldve been more of a thing) so its not like that helped.
