To the best of my recollection:

1. Dragon Warrior (aka Dragon Quest Abel Yuusha)

2. Noozles

3. Samurai Pizza Cat

Maybe an episode of Speed Racer.

Pretty sure it was a term throughout my entire life, just not a mainstream one.

Uhhh, I've seen some fucked up 80's shit, but not when it was relevant.

I guess early-ish Toonami in general, if that counts. it was always "action cartoons" and never anime.

Cartoon Network used to show Speed Racer and G-Force(Science Ninja Team Gatchaman retooling) before Toonami was a thing.

Pokmon, Digimon, DBZ, and Sailor Moon were around right as anime became a known term.

Yeah it was on Nick Jr. during near mid-90s over here. Yes for any born later, Nick Jr. wasn't a stranger to anime.

Didn't see it myself, but they also had that series Mysterious Cities of Gold.

When DBZ was localized in syndication, it was still Japanimation or Japanese cartoons. By the time the DBZ reruns came to Toonami, the term "anime" was beginning to be used more often.

Robotech was absolutely massive in the 80s. At the time nobody knew that it was actually like 3 different unrelated anime series that were chopped up and repackaged for the west.

There was other stuff like Voltron that was pretty huge. I had a weird toy from one of the Voltron series that I don't think ever got repackaged for the West, it wasn't the car one or the lions one but the other one that had giant robots that went all human centipede on one another. I think I had the red one? And was "car voltron" ever a thing in the US?

The proposed third season was to have been based on Lightspeed Electroid Albegas (Ksoku Denjin Albegas).[10] ...

Although Matchbox did produce and market toy versions of the three robots (Black Alpha, Blue Beta, Red Gamma) under the "Voltron II" name,[11] the series never actually aired. Due to the extreme popularity of the Lion Force Voltron and the lack of popularity of the Vehicle Team Voltron series, World Events Productions eventually elected against another alternate Voltron, and plans to adapt Albegas were aborted.[12]

Oh weird never looked into that.

Growing up in Mexico during the early to late 90s I don't recall the term "anime" being used. I do recall the term "Japanese cartoons". Anyways there's a few I recall from Canal Cinco:

Dragonball
Dragonball Z
Ramna 1/2
Ghost Sweeper Mikami
Sailor Moon

I'm sure the channel had more but these are the ones I remember watching.
