Twenty years ago today on September 22nd, 2004, the pilot episode dropped and the landscape of television was altered! I was hooked right away from the start and legitimately watched it from series debut to series finale on television.

Everything about it was magical. the cast, the setting, the soundtrack, the characters and the mystery. It was amazing swapping theories online and irl with friends. No they didnt answer every question, and that ending is STILL polarizing. but it remains my favorite show of all time.

I wish they didn't explain the smoke monster, it should have been left ambiguous.

It still upsets me how people seem to deliberately misinterpret the final season because they don't want to let go of the "they're dead the whole time" theory they came up with in season one, no matter how many times it's proven not to be the case.

Unfortunately, it made it okay for writers to make shit up as they went along and pretend that it was sophisticated and intellectual.

Probably the worst legacy of any show to ever appear on television.

They said years before it ended that they had a plan and the ending was written down on a document and that they would reveal that document after it ended, to prove they planned it all along. But I never heard if that ever actually happened. Maybe they forgot

How has Evangeline Lily been the only one with a sniff of mainstream success after the show ended yet Kate is arguably the weakest character (of the principle main cast) on the whole show lmao

I can completely understand how some people may not have liked it though. Same with Lost

Loved the show from start to finish, still listen to the OST every now and then. Locke's theme and Ben's theme are among my favorite tracks

I know the ending was controversial, and I was wondering where they were going with things as the season was going on, but when it clicked, it made me tear up at the end.

Not literally. The line was " the island was the most important thing you all ever did". It showed it would have always happened. They were all manipulated to be there. It was their "Destiny" their purpose. There is alot of ideas from buddism in the show. The island was a way for them to clear that karmic debt. Remember how most were horrible people in the flashbacks. What was the song Sawyer sang on the skiff? Redemption Song. That is all the show ever was about. Just because you might be a crap person before doesnt mean you will be a crap person forever. There will come a time when you are "Tested". The ones that died. NIKKI/PAULO, MR EKO, etc failed.

All I know is I really liked the idea you could find redemption after death. You may linger in Purgatory until you are ready, but theres still the opportunity to move on, eventually.
