He's not giving them ideas. They've more than once talked about eye tracking for ads now.

On another note, YouTube has recently rolled out a beta of removing the skip button for ads until you can actually skip, to keep the skip button from being a "distraction" from the ad.

Then I quit.

Honestly, I'd be fine with that. Once I've memorized which product a given ad is for, you'd be shocked how fast I'd scream the company's name just to get that bullshit off my screen.

YouTube's ads are annoying as fuck, like I'll be in the middle of watching something then BOOM advert.

This would be ableist against people without eyes or eyes that can't be detected, as well as those with cognitive disabilities who don't understand the expectation for watching the video.

I was listening to a history podcast a while back, and they had, i guess, made specific spots for ad breaks, but then the publisher had added in additional ad breaks in between.

So it could be, episode starts with 5 minutes of introduction ads,
3 minutes of content,
then another 5 minutes of ads, often starting in the middle of a sentence,
15 minutes of content, that gets to a logical 'end of chapter 1 conclusion,
another 5 minutes of ads,
6 minutes of content followed by another ad break

The show itself was interesting, but that shit was infuriating

"Mountain Dew is for me and you"

At that point, not using an ad blocker would be immoral.

What I don't get it how ads are apparently working.

Who is this person who picks out one ad in the dozens forming a border around an average web page and says "oh wow I think I'll buy this"???

I remember about a year or two ago, there used to be a countdown in the corner of the screen before the ad started to give you a heads up that an ad was about to play. They removed that feature because evil.

The tech is predicated on you having a camera on your device. A lot of monitors don't have built in cameras, and unplugging an external camera is surprisingly easy.

oh, yeah, automatic ad injection without caring for placement has been a thing for a while, and it's annoying as hell

They still can move them some but there are more stipulations than before. More often than not, its used to make sure to not interupt a plug for a sponsor with a different ad. Having your message about the video being brought to you by Raid: Shadow Legends and then mid sentence of explaining it having an ad for Raid: Shadow Legends come up is not what advertisers want.

On the other hand, the advertiser has no reason to care if you can access the content if you're not going to watch the ad either way, so they can always just try to turn on a camera, and if it can't, you just get an error.
