No one actually watched that stuff. They might watch clips on Fox or whatever but that's just in the background, and it's highly edited.

His rallies were so empty because people just don't care about that stuff. They're voting purely on economy or bigotry. It was funny posting pictures of empty seats, but ultimately it was his greatest strength that people didn't care.

Democrats do need to get tougher on immigration.

They tried to this time, but it goes through Congress which is Republican. In the past they would've just done an exec order, but Biden wanted it done legally, which is the "right way".

Doing things the right way is dead for the next 16 ish years minimum now though.

Yeah I do also think a positive case needs to be made for immigration. It is as much or more about feelings than fact. Take brexit in the UK. Immigration actually skyrocketed after the vote and again after implementation, yet public sentiment towards immigration improved significantly. Which I think was more about the general feeling than actual immigration statistics or policy as well as more publicity on the benefits of immigration and a reduction in media coverage. It got worse again over the last two years when the channel crossings started (because of brexit lmao) and people saw the images of the boats coming over and migrants drowning. It is an emotional, not a rational, subject.

Being with a Turkish partner for five years was super revealing on this subject. Turkey took 3 million refugees from Syria so Europe wouldnt have to, and the left in Turkey is actually the relatively anti-immigration force while the hard right government is very generous to them. By contrast the UK took 6000 refugees from Syria. It does put into relief that in many cases the issue is largely imagined.

You cant convince a lot of Americans on immigration because despite everyone here other than Native Americans being children of immigrants half or more of the country believes immigrants are bad just by existing. Its why they call them illegals and dehumanize them as much as possible. Theyd let you shoot them on sight if they could and now they just might be able to

Yeah that's gonna be uncontroversial pretty soon. I do think bigotry played a part and people will try to claim that, but the divide is so big that any bigotry effect is small in comparison

Definitely seems that way - most people worried about immigration, hostile towards women or non-white folks were always going to vote Trump, let's be honest.

Doesn't really instill much more faith in the general populace for me. All it says is people are fucking idiots, vote based on economic factors they don't understand and are indifferent at best towards bigotry in their politics.

I'm very curious to see what the Trump admin will actually do here though. They have been given a terrible hand to play.

Establishing a dictatorship is very hard and will hit a ton of resistance. Trump is not nearly strong or healthy enough to do it. The internal power struggles will be crazy.

He can't do anything about the economy. Prices will never go down, and all his supporters will get increasingly angry. He can drop interest rates again and create a boom in jobs again, but that will only raise prices further.

My prediction: He will print as much money as possible, trillions a year like during covid. That will pay for subsidies for gas, corn, which will actually reduce their prices. He will also use it to pay for war and maybe even tariffs. The resulting inflation will be crushing. Bitcoin absolutely necessary.

Fuck, that sucks. I'm sorry for you guys and legitimately hope the project 2025 bs doesn't come to fruition
