also the issue with the goods being more expensive is that if they already are due to inflation, it doesn't matter. once you price something out of range, who cares if it doubles or triples, it's out of my range already so i'll be looking for something that is.

if the goods which become more expensive are those, that is when it'll be relevant. but if it's the shit i can't afford in the first place, zero impact.

Legitimately, UE's constant aggregation of news was one of the few things about the topic that consistently kept my hopes up throughout this season when I likely would have spiraled otherwise; I'll admit I'm a constant lurker in this containment topic and I try to avoid cluttering up posts with my stupidity. I don't know if you realize it yet or not, but I think being former president elect is a bigger deal than being a washed up reality TV star. We're not in 2016 still.

These are the wrong conclusions to draw about why the average voter voted the way they did and it is not helpful.

LTM will eventually get back but first a very, very, very necessary break to play games, watch anime, or do anything not politics for a couple months. breaks are a good thing, especially when everything you thought crashed into a brick wall. options at that point are breath and readjust or double down and hopefully the former is taken.

LtM's commentary was incredibly appreciated and mentally extremely helpful for me over the last few weeks and even though the fall from optimism hurt like hell, I found myself missing him a lot when things got really dark last night. Hope he's doing okay and enjoys a good disconnect from this for at least a little while!

He definitely kept my spirits up, and out of a spiraling depression of doom. Even if it was just delaying the inevitable. I was dooming hard last year after Israel began their siege on Gaza. People told me 'no, this won't have an affect on the election'. Even if it might not have been the deciding factor, it certainly did Kamala Harris no favors.

Trump was President during the country's post-Recession height. Younger voters in particularly who may have been shielded from and/or have not remembered the pandemic probably didn't understand why the economy got so much worse under Biden.

Gen X is where Harris did worst. Even the Boomers were more pro-Harris than Gen Xers.

Gen Z probably were upset over Gaza still, not realizing the implications of Trump replacing two more supreme court justices after they retire, probably having no idea who they are or what they do.

Gen z males were definitely very trump. The broccoli head ones

I think the first thing I would say is... if that was actually something... it would have been plastered by the Harris campaign and the media nonstop. And to my knowledge it hasn't. This tends to lead to the idea it's baseless.

As far as bridging the gap, there is no really cookie cutter way. It's trying to understand others, understanding their opinions can differ, and accepting them as a person and human being. Obviously there are lines where you shouldn't cross in trying to bridge divides. But your line to not cross should be moreso to the extremes and not be so limiting.

Idk how to help you personally.

But if they don't actually know when the economy is doing good or bad aside from feels, and don't actually know which candidate's policies will help and which will make things worse, how are you supposed to win their vote?

Yeah. I actually undershot Trump in my prediction as well. I wasn't sure if the hate of Trump could outweigh the inflation.

In hindsight it looks so obvious that Trump would win. We had the closer general election gap, additional swing states, etc. But, i really thought it was a toss up in my mind. I didn't hear very much chatter from the left in the lead up, but the right got more and more nervous the last 48 hours too.

Yeah the view soundbite of when asked what she would have done differently than Biden the last 4 years and she said not a single thing is kinda oof. I actually didn't know this happened until today and keep seeing it referenced for why she floundered.

I was cautiously optimistic of a Harris win but figured not only did Trump have the statistical advantage of having outperformed his polling expectations the last two times, I even figured out ways he could grow his "cult" (primarily through people who came of age during Biden's presidency wanting him back just because "the economy was better" and forgetting his mishandling of the pandemic is almost completely responsible for the supposed economic quagmire now). What I did not expect was an apparent wholesale forgetfulness of everything bad he did as POTUS. This country deserves him if it's so stupid.
