The char reacted exactly how you would expect lol one dude went full unhinged and kept spamming "Down with the union". Stream was supposed to be two hours but probably ended early because of the garbage chat. Still, I'm pretty stoked for this game. Looks crazy good in my opinion.

Man I'm thinking what her unique CIV power would be? Able to move undetected through enemy lands? But not do anything on them necessarily, just get past.

The Huguenots were not a slaveholding group in France. "Protestant" is an extremely broad designation basically historically meaning not aligned with the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church itself played a major role in developing the trans Atlantic slave trade.

I mean Lincoln literally got cancelled by a guy named John Wilkes Booth.

Tubman also lived almost 50 years after that.

I like that they will be using the culture changes throughout the game mechanic from Human Kind.

My thoughts are perhaps Firaxis wanted her in the game as a Great Person, couldn't find a category that suited her, then shoehorned her into being a Civ leader. While it doesn't happen all the time, vast majority of the time Civ leaders are actually heads of state/government of their respective countries.

All that being said, I'm glad to see Tubman getting some love. She needs some more of it, especially in these times.

Debating on whether I wanna get the Founder's Edition for $130... It's a lot of money but I also played a ton of Civ 6.

Design philosophy changed in 7 so any significant person can be chosen as a leader. EG Confucius is confirmed as a leader.

They decided not to limit themselves to heads of state this time. Ben Franklin for example, is also a leader for America.

Guy name Ursa is making a badly draw comic everyday tell the game releases, this is one that he made a long time ago when we learned that leaders are no longer tied to civs and that any nation can become Mongolia as long as they have 3 horse resources.

Well you've convinced me! Pre-ordering now. I remember making the mistake of buying individual leaders from the New Frontier Pass in Civ 6, only to realize that if I wanted the alternate France/America personas I needed the season pass, so I ended up paying more anyways.

If I just throw a lot of money at it now, I won't regret it later, I think.

Oh that explains it. It probably helps to widen the scope of other countries. So that they don't end up picking dictators.

anyway, I didn't realize they had already done streams for the first two ages so I started with the first one instead. some of the changes do look really interesting, especially not having to deal with builders at all

They should have James Monroe. Last founding father, Monroe Doctrine, Era of Good Feelings, so many things to go off of.

Since they are already doing "anyone goes" with weird choices like Ben Franklin and Machiavelli, Harriet Tubman is a very good choice. Still would like it if Civ kept to actual political leaders of countries/kingdoms/etc though (Except Gandhi, he's grandfathered in).

Lot of people either don't know or don't like to admit that Lincoln was actually pretty racist in his views. He didn't believe free Blacks should be eligible for citizenship, to hold public office, or intermarry with Whites, and felt that in general Blacks were intellectually inferior.

Epic of Gilgamesh is fiction, but there is strong evidence to suggest a real king Gilgamesh did exist.

I think it's a shame we haven't gotten a 1900s US leader since Franklin in Civ 4. Teddy barely counts. I would've liked to see John F Kennedy with a science / space victory focus. But I guess Ben Franklin is already an inventor.
