To be fair, right now uncommitted voters have a larger presence on this board right now than Trump supporters simply because the latter has mostly gotten themselves removed from the board. Of course youre going to see more people arguing against a pov actually being expressed here in real time.

I voted for Harris in good faith, but Im not judging the non-voters too much because I wouldnt have voted for anyone if Biden had run this time.

I wouldn't have blamed you. I still would have filled in the circle next to his name though. Despite what you may have heard from my reply guys, I didn't want Trump to win.

And for the record, I have zero faith in Biden, Kamala, Trump or really like 99.99% of the people that shape our government.

There's no distinction in their minds. I guarantee you there are people in this thread who will still claim we wanted Trump to win.

Energy against Trump? Yes, I see that. Plenty and deserved
Energy against Trump supporters? Not to the degree of uncommitted movement. Let's be real.

Not that spending energy on the supporters accomplishes anything anyway as opposed to Trump himself. If the major criticism towards the uncommitted is that they didn't put aside their emotion for the greater good, what exactly are you people doing hating on a group whose vote you're trying to get?
all of the trump supporters here get dogpiled and then banned quickly because they cant follow the rules.

There are hardly any here at all to put energy towards. Why are you putting your energy into concern trolling

As is the case every time this topic comes up, you all need to learn nuance.

Any voter in a state Harris won (or was always going to lose) isnt responsible for shit where the presidency was concerned. If you want to blame a small number of non-voters in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, you might have something of a point.

I voted for her, she won my state, and I can rightfully shit on the party all I want.

Why is this all being argued about in such a reductive form? I see this time after time and nobody really gets at the actual problems going on that put us here. "The voters that voted for Trump are stupid etc" Well, in a sense, yes, they absolutely are. Intentionally so. The GOP has been working on this for decades, longer than most of us have been alive. They have gutted education at every turn. Our voting populace is stupid? Yes, working as designed. Don't blame the pig for the farmer slaughtering it for bacon.

"But I was able to see through it!" Well in that case congratulations to you. You were able to navigate this world and develop those skills necessary, which is unambiguously a good thing. But similar to blaming the poor for being poor and not pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, your success doesn't actually mean the system is fair. Because you did something special does not mean most people can.

Not only that, but the conservatives have a tighter hold on cultural media than I think a lot of people here realize. Look at the topic about the Hispanic guy who said "I voted for Trump but didn't know he would do this!" That is a terribly easy one to point out and deride. What an idiot, Trump wears who he is on his sleeves? That is absolutely true, he is incapable of self awareness and will at this point just say whatever random evil thought crosses his mind. Then how does our Hispanic friend reach this point? Rather than deride the guy, I find it absolutely terrifying how many people he is representative of who are in such an information desert that they didn't know such basic stuff.

The Elon Musk Nazi salute is a good example. If you are a working class poor person whose focus is working multiple jobs to support your family and have a little free time for yourself, maybe you only watch the evening news, and what are they talking about? Sure as hell not Elon Musk being an obvious out and out Nazi. They are talking about stupid meaningless fluff about the inauguration. I'm not even talking about Fox News here, who will never tell you anything that doesn't spin anything on the right in a positive direction. Even our basic media is absolutely worthless at this point of informing anyone on anything. How many times did we see people making the "Trump kicks a kitten, now we will tell you how this is bad for Kamala" jokes. Those jokes are based on reality.

Then we have social media, which has become the source of news for a staggering large portion of the world populace at this point. I don't even need to go into detail on everything wrong with that but between the lies, misinformation, propaganda, bots, AI bullshit, and our uneducated populace, it is unsurprising how uninformed our voters are.

This doesn't apply to everyone of course, there are absolutely a significant portion that are educated and know exactly what they are voting for. Those will be the same ones who go from "Elon was just saying my heart goes out to you" to "yeah I knew what he was doing all along and now I am doing it too!" I am mostly speaking to those people caught in the middle, the ones voting against their own interests. Even a not insignificant portion of the protest voters and similar. Lets not forget the story about the Muslims who voted for Trump because he would bring peace to Palestine. But if we are looking for someone to blame, absolutely blame the people on top who either worked to make this happen or the ones who sat back and let it happen. The Ronald Reagans, Mitch McConnells, Rupert Murdochs, Peter Thiels, Elon Musks all are considerably more to blame than those ignorant voters caught in the middle. Even the vast majority of the Democratic party is more to blame for this whole mess than they are. Yes, the voters were ultimately the tool, but we were going to get here sooner or later anyway with the trajectory we have been on. Broad action must be taken if we have any chance of helping ourselves, and we cannot simply rely on our populace to overwhelmingly reeducate and un-indoctrinate themselves on an individual level. You can't actually pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.

And for the record, because I know someone will want my bona fides because nothing I said will matter if I don't say this, yes, I voted for Kamala Harris.

I think theyre referring to people who voted for Biden in 2020 and didnt vote in 2024.

But as someone said earlier, that could be up to how easily mail-in voting was in 2020 thanks to COVID. A lot of people were also out of their jobs in 2020 (and thus had time to go vote instead of having to consider whether it was worth missing work to do it).

There are multiple reasons having nothing to do with politics at all that could explain that change.

Good post man, this definitely is the correct take. This board has this tendency to completely forget that not everybody cares about politics as much as they do.

Sometimes i genuinely wonder how much this board actually gets out and talks to normal people who just work to pay bills and hang out and dont give a shit about what's going on the the political world. They might hear that one candidate is going to cut taxes which means they'll get paid more and that's enough for them. They're not gonna do research to see how accurate that actually is. They're not stupid, or evil, theyre just uneducated. And that's not their fault, political discussion is fucking exhausting.

So messaging and reach needs to better. Those same people need to hear "hey, this other candidate is going to work to give everyone free healthcare and raise the minimum wage as well" That's going to make a lot of uneducated voters ears perk up. It's up to the politicians to figure out how figure out a easy message with broad reach and appeal.

I'm just so fucking tired of this site doing absolutely nothing but blame voters and non-voters as if everyone in the country is some terminally online politic nerd like we are.

Here's the problem though, they lived through the same 8 years of Trump. At some point these people are to blame for exactly why you said they aren't, being uninformed. At some point it's the voter's fault that they didn't do research, it's their fault they ignored everything, it's their fault didn't vote for Kamala. Because they had a choice, they could have chosen to become more informed; instead they chose to remain ignorant, that's 100 percent on them.
As a poster above pointed out, they have phones, they can look this stuff up. They willingly chose not to.

it is not that they don't hear about that but they are not living in reality and in which case if they vote for Trump which those spouting such conspiracy do infact do, they are utterly to blame

Basic political knowledge is not an interest. It should be something fundamental for those who want to make an educated vote. Again, you speak like these people are fucking children.

if you know nothing and stay home, i actually respect that more than accidentally voting for fascism and saying oopsie how could i have known

This.

The average person is America is a white person who thinks politics don't matter in their daily lives and that their votes won't change anything.

It must be nice to afford to be able to live like that.

again, this is not true

go ahead and try it out

you will find they not only know more about politics than you think but will gladly enlighten you about them

I don't need to "try" anything to see that only about half of all adults are even registered to vote and less than that actually did vote.

We can go in circles about this. We can go in circles about who is to blame, the DNC or voters. But at the end of the day, the DNC isn't voting, voters are. And if people willingly chose to remain uninformed and live in their bubble, that's on them. Because at some point it's clear to anyone living in the US that there's problems in the US that need addressing.
People don't get a pass on this.

Weird tactic.

there isn't learning to be done (well not from people who voted against Trump only from those who refused or voted Trump)
just watching as Trump does everything he said he will do (including ending elections so you don't vote ever again)
and pointing it out

if that upsets you, then get to work on a time machine

Yeah, but people like CountCorvinus decided they know better than the people there and went "Sit down and shut up, Trump is fine. My moral superiority matters more than your lives."

Pointing it out doesn't upset me. People still thinking it's just one groups fault upsets me. There is plenty of blame to go around, but the lions share of it should always go to those in positions of leadership.

We all have computers in our pockets. There is 0 reason or justification to be completely politically inept in 2025, or accidentally vote for fascism. That level of ignorance is stupid. Theres no other word for it.

Acting like you need to be terminally online to understand basic shit like trump wants to end birthright citizenship or trump tried to steal a fucking election is absurd.

We are adults. You are treating them like children. The consequences of our actions matter whether people are too stupid to realize it or not.

This. I truly dont mean to offend anyone, but this desperation by so many to give voters a complete pass (while often blaming Democrats more than the folks doing the evil stuff) is absurd to me.

The post that caused the response I quoted agreement with says the GOP has spent decades brainwashing people to get to this point. That is absolutely true, and a big reason why a loser like Trump can even sniff the presidency. But that is even more reason why Democrats catching so much heat in the wake of this election is baffling. Here we have an evil bad faith group doing everything they can to lie to the populace, and our big gripe is Democrats didnt do enough to counter 50 years of bad faith? What are we realistically supposed to do when one of the two major political parties decides to completely abandon good faith, short of burning everything down? No functioning government has a safeguard that will absorb that. The only safeguard is voters and elections.

The same post that generated the post I quoted says that voters shouldnt be blamed, because Republican propaganda is so hard to see through. Im sorry, but it is easy, and everyone who cant should be ashamed. We have access to all the information we could ever need with computers in our pocket, plus decades of Trump being a scumbag before 2016, plus a disastrous first term, plus felony convictions, plus an attempt to overthrow the government on live TV. Some people are not interested in politics!! Is not sufficient at this point. I am tired of feeling sympathy for people who are too lazy to care about the things that impact the people around them, or too hateful, or are dumb enough to fall for what is perhaps the most clumsy con in American History, however long running it may be. Yes, it is pretty easy not to fall for the most obvious grift in memory if one chooses to think for five minutes.

I am sorry if this makes some folks uncomfortable, but the GOP bad faith is to blame, followed closely by an electorate that is dumb, hateful and lazy enough to elect an obvious monster to high office twice. The Democrats are a distant third. They ran a shit campaign. Biden didnt get out soon enough. But in a world where a man tries to install himself as a king through violence and the voters that have a duty to hold politicians accountable just shrug, what Democrat message was going to fix this?

Frankly, America is getting exactly the leadership that an electorate that takes freedom and active civic participation for granted deserves. I just wish the consequences werent going to be so severe for those of us that give a shit, or for those who are actively being stripped of their rights and freedoms.

you should feel responsible, guilty, awful and like a fucking idiot
