So Karl KNEW he was being sued over the statements about Apollo Legend's death but tricked his audience that he was being sued about the videos of Billy cheating so people would donate.

People always fall for grifters. Got a feeling people emotionally attached will still support Karl.

He's tiptoe'd around a few controversies and comes across as somebody who frequents right-wing circles. But he's called out transphobia so there's that.

Yeah Karl is just immature, which is also why he lost the case. You guys gotta understand the judges only really care about the immediate thing that's a problem. All Karl had were a bunch of evidence that Billy was a cheater and he often did SLAPP suits in which he... honestly has a good settlement record probably because he's experienced in screwing people over.

Nothing about all that definitively proved Billy was the cause of Apollo's death. It's pretty obvious why the judges ruled that way. That's why people jokingly but seriously put allegedly in front of all that type of shit cuz it really does work

He then started making videos similar to Goose about speed run lore and overtook him in popularity once he branched out to investigating cheaters and stuff

Goose himself was caught splicing runs a long time ago, but I don't think Jobst ever has, and you'd hope he hasn't given what he's built his channel on

After the cheating allegations Billy Mitchell later went on to livestream himself getting the score he cheated to get in twin galaxies so it's kinda weird. He clearly has the skill to do it so why did he cheat in the first place?

Not a fan of Mitchell, but wasn't Jobst a fascist, or at least in fascist circles? So hard to feel bad for him

It's more that he was part of the golden eye community that had one very huge fascist in it, Rwhitegoose, and him and Jobst are 1 in 2 in that community in terms of well known members. It could be a case of scrambling to distance themselves from drama, but a lot of the community came out after saying everyone thought Goose was weird but tolerated him because his indepth YouTube videos about Goldeneye speedrunning put some of them on the map

There's a speedrun lore video they made pre controversy together about a Perfect Dark run where Jobst gives the impression he thinks the guy is a bit weird, he corrects him and disagrees with him a few times and it seems kinda awkward rather than two close chums. You can tell Goose was caught off guard by it too because they had a few hundred people watching live

He always has been good at Donkey Kong (his score he got in the 80s is probably legit). As time goes on people learn more knowledge about the game and getting high scores is easier.

My guess is that he used new knowledge of the game to help him get the score along with good old fashioned practice in that livestream.

A particular example I remember is a video about how it's not racist to call black people in crisis areas (flooding in the particular example) who steal stuff looters because they (in the video maker's views) steal stuff for making a profit, whereas white people generally steal stuff for immediate survival, so they're not looters.

I'm basing all my info from their two YouTube channels, which I really enjoyed watching as early as around 2017, since Goldeneye is one of my fave games. I remember watching Karl's first ever youtube vid a few days after it came out

I'd wait for some more concrete info than "I saw a guy post this thing in YT comments, but I could be wrong and there might be more context" before deciding to drop a guy.

As for Jobst, he really hurt his chances with his unequivocal manner of reporting. If you can't prove that somebody did something or what they did was the direct cause of, then that is defamation or libel. I'm not surprised he lost on that technicality. There's a reason why YouTubers like Simon Whistler constantly use 'allegedly' in their scripts. Gotta cover your ass there, mate.

The sad thing is that so many people were grifted out of their money for this case. So many people donated to Jobst (probably because they hated Billy Mitchell the Cheater) and now some or all of that money is being funneled to Billy Mitchell. Even if Jobst won the case had nothing to do with Billy Mitchell's cheating since Jobst completely misrepresented to the public what the case was about.

Disregarding anything else about Karl, he only has his extremely abrasive and confrontational behavior to blame. Karl jumped at Moon Channel's throat, while his fanbase dog piled on, just for advising him to better cover his ass with his coverage on 'The Completionist.' He really thought he was untouchable and turned down the chance to settle, which is disgustingly irresponsible considering he has a wife and kid. Even now he's banking on Notch or his viewers ponying up to pay Billy's half a million payday, so you can't really say he's learned his lesson.

He was involved with Twin Galaxies, who were the only authoritative source for game records for years. Being a smaller, tightknit community meant they could exaggerate or falsify some records, which they proved of.

Billy was a legit game-playing prodigy, who fell back on TG's habits of pushing the truth just a little bit at a time with other games, to the point that they became egregiously fake.

Nothing sad about it, there was zero reason anybody needed to donate at all (anybody other than Notch trying to fill the empty hole in his soul and have somebody think he's cool again). Nobody should be that attached to or invested in Billy Mitchell or Karl Jobst to want anything to do with their legal tussle.

On that note, I don't think Karl has ever had to defend himself from his viewers before. Will be interesting if he tries the usual approach of claiming somebody misunderstood what he meant and that anybody who still disagrees with him is an asshole who should go fuck themselves (the judge apparently made special note of his aggressive behavior in the courtroom which makes me think he might have a serious psychological disorder).

People knew about the MAME stuff long before Jobst made a single video about him and that's not going to change. Jobst is still an asshole because of the whole accusing somebody of being responsible for a tragedy thing.

He wasn't sued for exposing anyone, he was sued for unsubstantiated claims. That's because real life isn't like an anonymous Internet forum where you can say things without consequence. The Completionist might see an opening to sue him for accusations that they planned to embezzle unspent funds.

Edit: I suppose he was initially sued for ragging on Billy, which is stupid to sue somebody over, but that case was ultimately dropped.

After reading into it...make sense why Karl Jobst lost. It wasn't anything to do with proving Billy Mitchell was a speed running liar, but that Jobst trying to suggest that Mitchell had anything to do with Legend's suicide. I feel empathy when it's a tragedy, not a inevitability. Jobst had plenty of people on his discord telling him to stop making videos about Mitchell when there's an ongoing trial happening. He just ignored them and said that Mitchell brings in a lot of views and that he had it "in the bag". I still enjoy Jobst content, but what he did here and what happened to him was bound to happen.

That proved to me how much of a narcissist Jobst is. Moon is somebody who puts a lot of time and research into his videos and Jobst needlessly flipped out on him by uploading a targeted hit piece to call him "clueless" and that he was defending Jirard when all Moon did was make an observation that even if there was charity fraud, which can occur due to simple incompetence and not necessarily malice, there was an still is no indication of the far more serious crime of embezzlement. As thanks for offering the advice that, as someone who isn't an accountant or a lawyer or even has all the details, Jobst maybe shouldn't make sweeping and unsubstantiated allegations that could bite him in the ass - he got harassed, doxxed, and threatened by rabid fans before being "forgiven" by Jobst himself who took no responsibility for what his actions caused.

Tbh the Completionist thing sat poorly with me. It seems agreed upon now that Jirard did a booboo so fair enough, but at the time those first videos dropped, there was nothing in them that suggested to the viewer than this Australian speedrun guy and a Canadian drama youtuber knew anything about American tax law (which has an international reputation for being complex) and they didn't feel the need to provide anything suggesting otherwise, so you essentially just had to trust them and their interpretations of said legal code.

The Moon Channel thing was weird. He deleted the video and basically agreed wholeheartedly that his analysis was bad based on lacking information, so while I do feel like white knighting him over how he was treated, I'm not gonna do it if he won't even white knight himself.

After listening to the full and unedited Discord call, he agreed that charity fraud was more likely to have occurred but reiterated there was no evidence of embezzlement. He amended the description and made a pinned comment to state that but kept getting doxxed and threats so he probably figured it wasn't worth keeping the vid up, deleted it, and moved on.

A pretty insightful aussie news story about it you guys might not see otherwise.
