I hope they really make it brutal, looks like they just might.

Spoilers for the game:

I don't think Joel gets killed off this episode.

I wasn't feeling last week's episode too much, but this one is already appealing to me.

I'm still about 10 minutes in, but it feels like it's caught its pace.

I liked the episode, but overall I preferred how the game handled the events.

*show spoilers for people who haven't seen it yet* Jackson being overrun by zombies was a cool spectacle but the fungus in the pipes felt unrelated unless if I missed something. like, Abby woke up the slumbering infected which were roaming by Jackson, so the pipe stuff felt unnecessary

besides that, I'll try to treat both versions as their own things from now on since comparisons don't really help.

Wow. The battle happened a lot earlier in the season than I thought. It reminded me of a certain battle midway through Season 8 of Game of Thrones and The Battle of Helms Deep.

As for the conclusion of this episode, I was wrong about how soon it was. My wife (who played the games before I did) is taking it very hard.

The show got renewed for a third season so I'm curious to see how they play everything out over the course of two seasons.

I feel like theres no way they will tell the rest of the games story in the remaining episodes this season. Pretty sure they are splitting the story up and concluding it in season 3.

They confirmed this i believe as far back as when season 2 was announced

Welp, I wasn't looking forward to that, but I'm glad it's out of the way. My little cousin keeps watching videos about it and playing the games and I had to to try and maneuver Mom to not realize and connect the dots. lol

You're not alone. When it happened in the game or when found out through spoilers/leaks, a lot of players just stopped caring. It's an extremely gutsy thing to do in writing.

Despite me knowing it was coming it still hurt. The scene was shot beautifully and the acting sold it. Got me to cry full tears again.

1.I didnt think they would do that one thing so soon. It hurt, just like it did when playing the game.

2.Kaitlyn Dever is an amazing actor. There was so much skepticism because she doesnt look like Abby did in the game. But I have seen Justified Season 2 and her other stuff. I knew she would command the screen.

Well done. The actors and actresses involved in that scene brought their A game.

Yeah, had it spoiled long before the show came out but was still hard to see it. Definitely didn't think it'd happen this soon.

Joel deserved to die for all the people he killer. Even his days as a raider. He didn't deserve the torture tho

I'll grant you that the people he killed over the 20 year gap, were maybe not ok to kill. But the fireflies absolutely deserved what he did to them. I have no sympathy for them or Abby or her friends. Especially the guy that kicked Ellie in the stomach. Hopefully he dies screaming

What an interesting switch up. It's now more personal for Dina and Tommy will feel guilty for not being there. It also fixed those who were annoyed with Joel telling Abby who they were.

As for the rest, that was freaking awesome. Playing the first trailer song was sweet too.

I read on another board that some people are theorizing *not game spoilers but potential heavy show spoilers* Tommy and Maria's son died during the zombie attack.

if so, that's a dark change, especially since Tommy doesn't have any kids in the games.

I didnt think theyd do it so early but I had this sense of dread.

The show definitely introduced Abby in a better way - I always maintained she should have been there from the start to show her grief and reasons which they did.

They swapped Tommy with Dina didnt they? Makes more sense why he would let his guard down with her than with Tommy.

Knowing it was coming didn't soften the blow. I didn't expect it to go quite like that. But honestly I don't know if/why I should blame that firefly girl. Joel did straight up murder a lot of people there.

Isn't it presented as a "greater good" type of deal, i.e., saving the human species? I can't remember, but was Ellie aware that she would die? I don't exactly blame Joel for saving her either though...

I'm not sure if Ellie expected/knew she could die from it, since no one knew until the very end of season one.

Was pulling for abby to be a fake refugee rather than how the game did it as that was foreshadowed as a way to get in, but using the chaos of the attack too really addressed things as joel looking stupid and how they found him out.

Joel knows he had alot of enemies, but telling him why he was going to die seemed to bring him some acceptance, or he really just wanted her to stfu with the villain monologue, and go golfing. lol

Everyone brought it acting. Was really into the scene already knowing things.

idk if there's anything to indicate that, as Ellie was said to be special amongst the other people they've seen, and Ellie having to die was new even to Marlene.

very good episode and the battle at Jackson adds a whole new layer to the story that is super intriguing. although the death scene was well made and acted, it will never hit as hard as when I first experienced it in the game.

also, pedro pascal will now be known for having two of the most traumatizing deaths in television

Okay I may be misremembering. Correct me if I am wrong because it has been a LONG time since I played through the first game. Isn't there a file or something you find that states they've tried this on others and it didn't work?

I think it should be okay to post about the first game without marking the spoilers since the events have already passed.

anyway, from the surgeon's recorder in the first game, he refers to "past cases", but they don't specify on whether they tried to experiment on them or not.

but because *TLoU2 game spoilers* Ellie having to die to make the vaccine in new information to Marlene, I do not believe it was necessarily the case.

They have to stretch the second game over two seasons. So I bet that's exactly what they'll do.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I saw a video suggesting there will be a Eugene episode. And considering he's gotten a pretty hefty focus in both episodes so far, and iirc appears in the trailer, it makes sense.

They said episode 6 is more than likely that (Eugene episode/ plus Joel/Elle flashbacks)

but yea, I think I heard something about the Eugene episode.

not any details, but that there was some importance around the casting around his character.

hmm, i don't remember a giant horde of infected attacking the settlement when Abby was hunting for Joel...

the scene where Joel gets killed plays almost the same. only difference i seen was Tommy is the who accompanied him instead of Dina. overall, good episode tho!
