oh yeah, that's true about the first thing.

the second thing is kinda the point though, the referential humor is like a big part of the show.

It fits with the current multiverse trend, which kinda sucks honestly.

I would say Strange New Worlds is damn good, albeit this random romance with Spock was dumb.

Planning on getting the full series on blu ray at some point. Fantastic show.

I like it but it relies bit it relies way too much on reference humor.

I set myself up with a Plex server earlier this year. I've always preferred physical ownership, but setting that up was a big catalyst and I've probably bought more movies and shows in the past 8 months than I have in the past 3 years.

Lower Decks MUST have all the references to other shows because the entire premise is showing what happens after the end of all those poorly-thought-out episode endings in those other shows. And that's what makes it such a good show. That being said, my kid has barely any Trek knowledge and still really likes it.

Someone needs to explain to me how to suspend disbelief for Trek. Given our world, I simply cant suspend disbelief that well ever get to a utopia because of corporations and rich assholes. If replicators were invented, theyd just horde them and replicate their products or money, and by the time the masses got replicators, theyd have something else to give them a leg up, etc.

That's kind of a problem when I want a Star Trek that can stand on its own. I love Lower Decks but sadly it can't do that.

Shame they probably killed the series outside of comics. The series is perfect with continuation. New newbies following each generation of the live show. Could have gives us the DS9/Starbase 80 parallel.

Gold-pressed latinum became a currency because it couldn't be replicated accurately.

And the thing is, by the time replicators were invented the utopia was already in place.

Well, the Star Trek Utopia didn't come around out fo then air. The utopia came out of the ashes of WW3 I believe, if not that it was some horrific shit and a lot of people died. The Utopia was built from the ashes of that. It's a hope that we become this, after going through our worst.

Not technically Star Trek, but there's an episode of The Orville that addresses this. It talks about how the Union did once give advanced technology to a less advanced species thinking it would help but exactly what you said happened. The rich hoarded it for themselves, they mostly used it to make weapons, and that civilization ended up destroying themselves.

It was saying that advanced technology alone isn't going to get us to a utopia. There has to be social change as well.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, I find it easily the most overrated Trek series and Id rank it below any live action show (maybe Discovery is debatable). Still, its a fun show and it definitely has its positives.
