I'm nearly 50, and I'm still waiting for the day I wake up and actually feel like an adult.

Mental Health struggles. I'm slowly gettin' better at that. 2019 to 2023 were worse. Won't share what happened. Wee bit personal.

I am good at all of these, but I did forget to buy some cashews for a recipe I was making today so I guess technically forgetting during shopping is it.

I suck at keeping my apartment clean. I clean it and 2 days later its a mess. I didnt inherit the cleaning gene the rest of my family has.

I'm pretty terrible at planning/shopping. Like I always forget at least 1 thing from the store, and if it is something I only buy once every few months, it can take weeks before I remember to get it.

I'm not very good with finances. My brain really doesn't like numbers or math and I kinda feel like I don't really believe money is real?

All things considered, I think I do pretty good. I used to not clean things for weeks because I live alone, but lately I've been getting into the habit of it, and even doing it because I'm bored.

If anyone wants a life tip, here's one: stop watching youtube shorts/ticktock if you want more time. You just go into a catatonic state and don't remember anything you just watched. It destroys your mental health. Install this extension that will block youtube shorts from youtube.

To save money, don't order doordash ever (ever ever ever ever), learn how to make food you like at home for cheap, and pack your lunches. $200-$300 every month. It's not as bad as you think it is, and tbh fast food isn't even that great, and it probably makes you feel like shit anyway.

If you smoke cigarettes, buy a packing machine and pack your own. If you drink alcohol, buy a fermentation kit and ferment your own from cheap apple juice. I just saved you another monthly $300 because your bad habits just became free.

If we're sharing tips, a bit of automation can help with a lot of those problems. In a calendar app I have not only events like doctor's appointments and birthdays but also reminders for most regular recurring tasks such as chores, working out, replacing filters, and even one for going to bed on time at one point. Most kinds of payments can be autopaid so you don't have to worry about missed payments; just make sure you keep enough in your account to cover them.

One thing I am really good at is cooking. I always bring leftovers into my internship. I almost never order out- if I'm eating out, it's as part of a hang-out with a friend.

I dont own a car so I dont know if thats an automatic win or loss on that one.

Calling in prescriptions isnt a thing where I live. You just walk into a pharmacy and get them.

Im fine with all the other stuff on the list.

All except prescriptions and important events since theres not many to remember

I'm capable/good at all of these.

But I've never done the "ultimate" adulting things. I've never been married. I have no kids. I don't expect that will change, it's not something I've wanted for my life.

So I'm an almost middle aged man with nothing to pass on to the future, in name or in spirit.
And as sad as that sounds, I'm okay with it. I don't think humanity as a whole has much time left anyway, who wants to show up when the party is over?

Truth is I barely know how to function as a human.

I still haven't figured out how to:

crush my enemies
see them driven before me
hear the lamentation of their women

Voted mortgage but mean finances. And it's more i just don't understand.
I probably over pay on a lot of stuff, but i save money pretty decently. I could really learn more about retirement funds and stuff that i contribute to.

I can but I really dont see the point. Seems an unnecessary expense and hassle to me.

I'm pretty bad at maintaining a schedule for anything. I guess that falls under time management

Grocery shopping, going to the mountains or going anywhere long distance. My groceries would melt or i wouldn't be able to carry things as easily if I was only walking.
Traveling seems kinda obvious, but yeah, it helps tremendously with that.
Cars are an expense, but once paid off, you can have it for years and years with only a couple "large" annual expenses. I basically spend about twenty or so bucks a month on it in gas and that's about it.
I do feel like my car is starting to run into issues and i almost wanna sell it to get the best value for it towards another vehicle. I would only expect a loan of a couple years for the next car.

Walking is fantastic but I'm not in an area for that anymore, for the first time in my life. I've been able to walk to work for 15 years, so having a car has been very useful.

Backing up a car. Im terrible at it and will get out multiple times if needed

Problem is, here, even if you have a car, good luck parking it anywhere that you drive to. The roads round here arent built with everybody having cars in mind. Plus, if you do need to get around and a bike wont do it for whatever reason, its dirt cheap to just get a car through Grab or Be.

Even with a backup camera I'm not the best at parking--hence why I usually park in the back, away from everyone else lol

I suck at all of the things mentioned.

My glasses have been broken since April and I've yet to see my eye doctor to get a new pair FRRE (with insurance ofc)

Those cameras really only help with like lining up.
Everyone that could do it would mention using mirrors or looking over the shoulder and after a few months of practice, i get it!
I live somewhere finally without cramped parking, so I could practice without worrying about damage. I'm no master, but I can back into most spots if desired. I have to fix my parking sometimes, but I have to do that sometimes when pulling in, too.

I know fuck all about a mortgage and taxes.

From the list its keeping things clean and organized. Ill clean an area and then ignore it and if will slowly get worse and worse until it becomes a total mess

Earning well in a low cost of living area is the main thing. A few passive income streams. And it helps that I bought my home for cash so no mortgage (well, the one Ill live in when I retire. I dont actually live in it at the moment).
