Is either too evil or too stupid to be considered as someone who is safe to be around.

That's why I've cut off most of my family, and stopped trusting pretty much everyone I interact with.

For me, the "completely irredeemable" tipping point was the 1/6 insurrection. Up until that point, I believed a decent amount (maybe not most, but some) of them could still change their ways and and see the light. But then 1/6 happened, and anyone who still supported him after that, and especially anyone who still supports him now, is past the point of no return in my eyes.

Problem is and this is another reason why I presume most of the posters here are a step away from suicide is:

A. Don't trust anyone.
B. Give up hope for positive change.

How's that any different than giving up life?

Which happens when someone lacks hope for positive change in general. Not much of a life if one continues on without either.

I'm still bitting heads with mom over this. She sometimes seems like she's realizing the truth, before reverting right back to blind MAGA support.

Like yesterday she was complaining about all the people being hateful towards Charlie Kirk and asking how people can be so heartless. I told her that it was due to years of ill will from the all the biggoted things he said. Then "corrected" me telling me I was wrong and that he's never said anything like that. She literally had not even heard of him until after he was dead. But how she knows better than I do because all her Facebook friends were praising him.

Yeah. I'd say that there were some very convenient exit ramps during his first presidency:

-Calling the racist fucks in Charlottesville "very fine people"
-Bungling our country's COVID-19 response and encouraging people to ignore CDC advice
-Bullshit conspiracy theories leading up to the 2020 election
-Trying to overturn the 2020 election in the courts
-January 6, 2021

Like, if after all of that, you can still say that he's great...

Came to say this.

At most all that has happened over the past ten years is a shift in the stupid to evil ratio.

I am not suggesting I have exact numbers but
2015: 30% evil; 70% stupid
2025 90% evil; 10% stupid

Yeah, or something like that. The guy was an unknown quantity in 2016, so thinking that he might go in and make some changes to Washington in 2016 was at least understandable, if definitely overly optimistic.

But in 2024 he was a known quantity. His incompetence and moral depravity was on display for all to see in his first term, yet people voted for him again.

Mom was just talking about a teacher that got fired for criticizing Charlie Kirk, and that she was complaining about it being unfair. She said actions have consequences, and that people are learning the hard way.

I said Charlie Kirk faced the consequences of his actions. She said he was just sharing his opinion which he was allowed to do. I told her that his opinion supported people getting gunned down and letting kids watch public executions, so it seems fair that he died the way he did.

That was all, but I can tell she's mad by her body language.

Ok, I was out of line yesterday with my previous posts.

I don't know. I get that some people need to rant more than other to blow of steam. I respect that, just I do wonder why the politics tag isn't used so that we can legit have it both ways.

Political discussions going on while those wanting to still cut back on them can focus on the non-political threads.

You made me remember this...

During a victory speech after winning the Nevada Republican caucuses on February 23, 2016, Trump stated, "We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated!".
He certainly DIDN'T win with the highly educated, but yeah, the poorly educated definitely helped him.

Alternatively, don't go in the political threads.

Barring the concern that a thread with the tag would fizzle out or get no response, I don't see how there's a downside to using it. People can blow off steam to their hearts content and others who don't care to look at them at all or easing up for the time can filter them out.

You can't force people to lighten up, sure. But it seems like some see that as an invitation to make others anyone in genuine good spirits feel low.
