Ugh, okay. My wife and I eat in restaurants sometimes. But we do cook for ourselves at least 90% of the time. But if one has the money and enjoys it, then do it.

This isn't about me, I was wondering how inclined other people on this board are about voicing opinions in response to seeing what someone was willing to pay for.

But that's dumb. Paying to eat out at restaurants is perfectly valid. Some people really enjoy doing so and if they can afford it, who cares? Now if someone has credit card debt and doing so, that's different.

Personally, we only eat out occasionally because we would rather save for big yearly vacations and retirement. Maybe you think vacations are a waste too?

No. Restaurants need business too. People are employed there.

Unless the person is someone you know that cannot afford such things, and should be saving up for their monthly bills.

I dont get Starbucks delivered, because Starbucks is awful, but I had a friend stay with me a couple of months ago who couldnt wrap his head around the idea that I dont have coffee in my cupboards because I just order one to be delivered if I want one at home.

I ordered something on Doordash this week but no one accepted the trip. It got to the point I had to drive to the restaurant to get it (which I wasn't happy about because I did it specifically so I didn't have to leave work). I think it might have been because it appeared I was at a secure government facility because of the address (it is but the parking lot is open to the public so I was just going to meet them there).

Oh well, Doordash comp'd me the entire cost of the meal for picking it up myself (in addition to the $10 credit they applied the first time I contacted them about the order) and I used that to order a big steak for dinner so I guess I won out.

I truly 100% dont care how people spend their money. Do I think sometimes people are being wasteful with their spending? Sure, but I dont care. Both things can be true.

But Im also a notorious extreme saver so what is wasteful to me is normal for others and what is good savings to me would be being cheap to someone else. I had an 18 month period from 2023 to half of 2024 where I only spent like $75 outside required monthly bills. I save/invest practically everything I make.

Not my purchase, not my money. Therefore, not my business.

I might offer advice if it's sought, or if I think you can get the same thing for cheaper or a better thing for the same price. However, it's their decision. They probably have different standards and needs of things to me too, so I may not be the best barometer of what's a good purchase.

Sometimes, but I stop myself because I never know what the other person is going through. If someone needs to do something nice for themselves to keep going, imagine how harmful it would be to hear a stranger talk down to them about it.

In fact, ChatGPT told me once to stop feeling sorry for myself and buy something I want.

No...I look at why other people feel the need to question (or even ridicule) what someone spent their money on after they did, assuming it's a harmless purchase.
