Yeah, thus far none of this "reality era" stuff has stepped over the line of kayfabe, even CM Punk's July stuff, with the possible exception of Cena's remarks to Punk about how fans want him to "increase his workrate, expand on the 5MoD, and embrace his heel persona."

STOP BEING SUCH A KILLJOY, GAWD

If this is a work, they wouldn't have put the writing on The Rock's wrists unless they wanted us to think it wasn't a work!

Thinking about it again, I love how Cena really unsettled The Rock's promo routine.

After Cena left, Rock was stammering and repeating himself like he was on the most basic of autopilots while his mind scrambled for a true retort.

That was really interesting stuff.

See, now that Rock's actually here the feud is awesome. Rock's promo pre-Cena was kinda lame, and that crowd that loved him deserved better (What does "Kung Pao B****" even mean!?!), but once Cena came out they were both incredible.

I almost busted a gut when Rock insinuated that Triple H's rise to the top was in any way analogous to his or Austin's or Undertaker's or Foley's though.

Really? I thought that match under-delivered. Yeah, '06 Orton doesn't bring high expectations, but Angle and Mysterio have put on classics in the past both in singles and especially in tags, and Randy might not be on their level but even then he can hang.

I'd say it would be better if the Rumble winner got his shot at Elimination Chamber, 1-on-1. It places more value on the Rumble since instead of getting the first crack at the unified title, they get the easiest shot to make it into the unification match. Granted, it's a little worse really since it requires them to win two matches instead of just one to be unified champ, but the value of being in the unification match at Wrestlemania instead of in a random title match at Extreme Rules, plus the prestige of possibly being the first champion to hold the new unified title instead of the second, makes up for it.

Maybe you could give them the option?

You can either:
A.) Fight the WWE Champion 1-on-1 at Elimination Chamber
B.) Fight the World Heavyweight Champion 1-on-1 at Elimination Chamber
or
C.) Fight the Undisputed Champion at Extreme Rules

Different characters would take different routes I think.

EDIT: And maybe for Option C, in exchange for waiting it out that long, you would also get the choice of what type of match to compete in. That definitely sweetens the deal even more if you have a pet match.

I guess when it comes down to it, I am extremely interested purely in the idea of The Rock wrestling John Cena 1-on-1 to find out who's better. All the garbage they've done to promote the match has added nothing, and does distract from that ultimate goal, but none of it changes the fact that at the end of it all, I get to see that dream matchup.

Others apparently couldn't care less about seeing them wrestle and need better build and firmer stakes. Two things which would definitely HELP the match, that I cannot deny.

It's just sad that until Cena's promo this last Monday they've basically given us no genuine push to REALLY get hyped about this match since the day after WM 27, to the point where we've spent months arguing over the semantics of things to explain our frustrations.

Well I don't think ANYONE is saying that they don't want to see Cena vs. The Rock itself.

We're doing 2 things:

A.) Hating on the angle for really doing the worst possible job they could be doing about making us care (thus far)
and
B.) Explaining why we'll be rooting for Cena during the match itself, just like how we'll be rooting for Punk against Jericho.

I want to see the match a lot! I love watching Rock wrestle! By no means am I hating on the idea that this match is going to happen.

And I think deep down that's why the "never leaving again" remark, misconstrued or not, is such a sticking point.

That magical night where Rock returned and cut that amazing promo, after laying the smacketh down about how much things suck now, it came across like he was saying that now HE'S back to set things right. And then he never did. So basically he just called us all fools for watching a (supposedly) inferior product.

And yeah, I wish he would still come back and wrestle more often, but even if he can't, like I said earlier, I would even settle for some more frequent via satellite promos, just to say something or comment about ways the product can be better if he feels that strongly about it.

Part of it goes back to that initial promo, where Rock basically crapped all over the idea of WWE falling to such low depths that John Cena is the face of the company, without offering any alternative.

At least Punk said "I am willing to take on this mantle to prove that Cena's reign at the top is an albatross and someone else [namely me] will be a much more exciting Champion."

Rock just came on and said "Hey WWE Universe, you know this stuff you watch every week? It SUCKS MONKEY BALLS compared to my era. OK bye."

The natural follow up to Rock's diss, if he's not going to topple Cena HIMSELF to restore his company to the glory of old, is to at least back some sort of Rock proxy.
