This only matters at all when its not in a word or name. In my experience, the only time Ive had issues is when I have to sign in an app on a TV and have to manually type my auto-generated password in with a shitty remote.

Fortunately, a decent password manager should have an option to Avoid ambiguous characters these days. It was only a problem for me because I have old passwords that I havent changed since that became an option.

Serifs have never looked good on screens, basically, and should only ever be used for print.

I haven't played a single game in the series, but I downloaded the demo and got to the end of the Prologue (at least, I think it's the end; the father got a job offer and left his kids to their own devices). I kind of like it, though I wish in battle you could switch back to the action gameplay after going into the turn-based gameplay.
Thats not the end, youll know its the end when it says youre done and shows you another trailer.

I also wish you could switch back to action based, but what really bugs me is that for whatever reason, in the action battle you can press Start and reload your save, but in the turn-based battle you cant. Thats really annoying when youre playing on Nightmare, and its my only gripe with the game so far.

Finished the demo on Nightmare late last night, bought the game as soon as I got up this morning. I did load up my clear save and go through the scenes until I had control just to check if I missed anything in the Prologue, will have to double check that when I actually have time to play.

Hopefully it will still let me hang around the Rolent area to try and farm the Shiny Pom accessories and buy some stuff before leaving.

I should add that this is my first Trails game, so Im hyped to finally get into this series.

Its not bad to challenge the player / reader / etc. sometimes.

Same reason the game doesnt depict characters as being mouthpieces to deliver info dumps to the player at the start, but rather has them use a bunch of words you dont know the meaning of (like Fracture, Gommage, etc.) with each other as if theyve all used those words their entire lives, which they have, and not explaining the terms for your benefit. Them going through the same thing you are makes them feel more real.

oh no its going to be derailed into an ending argument

Heres one. I feel like (maybe just for the higher difficulties) the stat points didnt really matter. I wanted to build party members certain ways with the stats but they ended up being nothing other than keep up your speed and follow the weapon scaling
I played on Expert, and up until Act 3, I put two points into Agility and one point into Luck for every character on every level up. I also played in such a way where if I ever took damage I reloaded my save, so every fight was finished with No Damage. I heavily leaned into Glass Cannon builds because of this, and for most of the game I was killing bosses in a few turns at most.

Stats mattered a lot then, as having so much Agility often gave me two turns to the enemys one, and the high Luck made me crit a lot more.

In Act 3 when you get ultimate weapons and break the damage cap, yes, ideal stats is basically 99 in Might and whatever two scaling stats are. Its true that it doesnt matter much at that point because having say a + Agility Picto will increase your Agility way more than 99 Agility will, and the same applies to the other stats. I dont see that as a flaw, as the respec item was very ubiquitous by then.

The thing is that Maelle's ending depicts it as her going full on paintress and kinda treating the painted people as her own puppets, bringing back dead people and forcing Verso to play piano for her amusement. Rather than her managing to heal with her found family.
Thats a small segment of it, and you can also interpret it as simply foreshadowing that shell eventually go mad like Aline did if she stays in there long enough, not that she already was. I already said Verso suffers. But its basically Verso and the Dessendre family suffering while everyone else is happy, versus everyone but the Dessendre family literally being genocided and the Dessendre family still suffering anyway, but Alicia doubly so.

Very easy choice IMO.

If you think thats OP you should have seen the games launch state (which I honestly prefer, PL aside, as I had zero issues on PC and it was more fun IMO). All builds were way more powerful at launch, they nerfed basically everything in the 2.0 rework and made enemies scale to your level etc. At launch, one Quickhack would kill everyone in seconds.

I went from one-shotting the final boss on Very Hard to having to hack turrets to distract him and the fighting probably taking 5-10 minutes using basically the same build on Very Hard post rework. Thats how nerfed everything was.

Yep. The fact that the story pivots so hard into just focusing on the Dessendres' family drama and just completely stops caring about any of the painted world's troubles sucks. It's not that the Dessendres are boring, it's just that I care MUCH more about the characters and world I've just spent the last thirty-odd hours getting attached to. They're clearly just as alive and sentient as the "real" characters, but the game almost totally sidesteps all the ethical and existential issues that come with the big painted world reveal.

And frankly, the Dessendres are kind of hard to care about. In the context of the painted world at least, they're sociopathic gods who would rather create and then genocide thousands of sentient lives instead of hiring a damn therapist. I'll pick the Maelle ending every time because I genuinely think Lune, Sciel, Monoco, and Esquie's lives are worth way more by themselves than the Dessendres' wellbeing.
Yeah. I would basically summarize the endings as:
Verso: Alicia suffers in her broken body, everyone else besides the Dessendre family are genocided, Dessendre family probably continues to ignore her suffering to focus on the conflict with The Writers, as symbolized by the family going their separate ways after the funeral.
Maelle: Verso (both the last bit of his soul and painted Verso) suffers, the Dessendre family continues as they were, Alicia / Maelle is happy with her found family and at least has a chance to heal. It leaves the option open for her to leave Versos canvas and be with her family, even though it isnt likely because she knows Renoir will wipe it out of existence the moment she does.

While neither is good, one is obviously the lesser evil IMO.

World of Final Fantasy was the only title in the franchise I enjoyed since the pre-merger days. It was turn based and felt like classic FF and I don't think it broke a million copies sold because people whined about the chibi artstyle portion.

Going pure turn based isn't the magic fix that some people think it would be and I say this as someone who prefers and loves turn based.
Its not, but the thing is that most of the reasons the newer games suck are the reasons they are so adamant to not do turn based. Basically, they want to make super cinematic movie games that are tech demos and eye candy with budgets large enough they need to sell at least 5 million copies just to break even, and they think turn based battle systems would break the immersion of that kind of game.

So basically, if they are doing turn based, its a good indicator they arent doing a movie game tech demo which is a huge reason the series has declined.

That seems like the most likely explanation, although there are a few parts to this that should be dissected. Spoiler tags for Anime only watchers.

1.Based off recent chapters in the Manga, Big Mom has heard of the "hunts" of innocents that the Celestial Dragons have performed, even if she dismissed them as rumors. Dragon, a low ranking marine grunt in the current flashback, is aware of the "hunts" as is the rest of his platoon (They tried to interfere and Dragon's whole platoon got executed for this). Considering a pirate and a low-ranking marine know of the "hunts", there isn't much room for doubt that Garp (a Vice Admiral) indeed knows of them.

2.The next few chapters will elaborate on this more, but Chapter 957 gave us a lot. Garp dislikes the Celestial Dragons and refused the admiral position due to not wanting to be placed under the Celestial Dragon's direct command. Sengoku goes further with this though. The insubordination of refusing to do their bidding actually is implied to put his life in danger, with only his accomplishments/stature preventing this. If Garp goes any further than just ignoring their wishes, he would probably get eliminated. Also, only tangentially related, but it is very much in doubt that Garp actually protected the "Celestial Dragon's Slaves" as Sengoku implied, considering the "hunt" that was going on.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/5/525d4ce9.jpg

3.Just an irritating thing that I've noticed, but Oda always has the "good marines", of which Garp is implied to be, absent when the Celestial Dragons are being...Celestial Dragons. I mean, Garp escorted Shirahoshi and her family to/from the Levely. Not too long after escorting her to the event, he is missing both when Saint Charlos tries to enslave Shirahoshi and CP9 backs up this attempt to enslave her as well as when later he is MIA to prevent presumably Lucci from abducting Vivi not too long after Vivi wished Garp was protecting her instead.

I don't believe that having Garp not realize/see what is happening at God Valley is realistic though...and considering they are on speaking terms even in the present day, Dragon at the very least must have definitely told him what happened with the "hunt". So yeah, hopefully Oda does show Garp having to face this. It feels...cowardly not to.

4. Not as relevant, but Garp right now is Blackbeard's prisoner. Considering the God Valley incident, both were there and that may be relevant...although Blackbeard just sees him as a bargaining chip. That may change of course.
Yeah, I meant way before that, more like when Garp first joined the Marines. Im guessing he didnt know all that when he was a rookie like Koby and probably advanced some ranks before finding out how heinous the WG was.

But hes Kongs son so who knows? It could certainly have been that he was raised witnessing all that shit.

He refused a promotion to admiral due to having to be at their beck and call and occasionally mocks them. Granted, the most recent manga chapter has got people angry at Garp.

Spoilers below.

He shows up to God Valley during the genocide of 100K innocenr people by the Celestial Dragons to fight against the likes of Roger and Rocks, who have the best chance of stopping said genocide. Considering this is Rocks's homeland, this is particularly poignant. I mean, LightSnake put it quite blantantly in the Chapter 1160 topic...

Making matters worse for Garp, his own son Dragon (who is a marine at this point) and his squad disobeyed orders to go to God Valley to try to rescue people and/or oppose the Celestial Dragons...and all of Dragon's squad died doing this. Dragon himself is still risking his life, having saved Ivankov/Kuma NY tranqing their would be murderers and rescuing Shanks/Shamrock following their mother's wishes to not have their incredibly evil father (who murdered said mother) raise them...although I guess he fails with the latter.
I think its a lawful good type thing. To Gary, my guess is that the evil World Government is the only thing standing in the way of complete anarchy and hed rather have tyrants rule and try to oppose the more evil of the pirates than the evil pirates ruling, which he sees as the alternative.

^ Right, and I have enjoyed it every time Nintendo has played with the open world concept. Pokmon, Zelda and Mario all had great open world games in my opinion. I think Metroid will also be great.
Opposite for me. Breath of the Wild was fun until the new wore off then became more and more of a chore until I completed it.

I havent played a Mario since Sunshine, mainly because I hated motion controls and Galaxy used them, but Mario Kart World being open world is definitely to its detriment. The actual races are much worse than dedicated tracks in the classic style, because most of them are spent traveling from one track to another. Theres a reason everyone online voted in a way to get dedicated tracks instead of the boring stretches, and then Nintendo removed that ability. Driving around in the free roaming is fun for half an hour or so, then you get bored.

Kennedy said something along the lines of those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. At this point I think most people just dont have it in them as long as they can be distracted by their phone and their TV and other hobbies etc.

I like open world games a lot, to me a linear adventure game feels way too restrictive at times like Im not actually in control of my adventure but Im just following a script.
Open world games were fun when:
  1. We were kids with no money who only got the games our parents deigned to buy us (most of us only on birthdays and Christmases for the most part) and had nothing better to do than endlessly play the few games we had
  2. You basically only got one every few years when the next Grand Theft Auto or Elder Scrolls / Fallout came out, so they still felt rare and special
  3. The Rockstar / Ubisoft open world checklist collectathon formula had not been enshrined and ruined through sheer ubiquity
Now, as adults with plenty of money to buy tons of games and very little time to actually play them, in a time where basically every AAA game is open world, many of us just find them tedious.

Final Fantasy is a good example. Final Fantasy 4 and 6 each didnt have all that many side quests or optional dungeons, but the ones they had were for the most part unique and gave good rewards. Meanwhile Final Fantasy 15 has a huge empty open world thats fun to explore until the new wears off, then exploration becomes more and more tedious until youre done with it. Rather than a few rewarding side quests, there are probably at least a hundred of them, but the vast majority are boring fetch quests or go here and kill X and they might reward a Potion or a paltry amount of Gil.

The vast majority of open world games are only fun as long as you can remain immersed in them, which usually isnt long, and they feel padded and like they dont respect the players time.

There are rare exceptions that are still tremendous fun for one reason or other, but theyre few and far between. Fallout: New Vegas is at or near the pinnacle of roleplaying choices for one. Elden Ring doesnt have map markers leading you everywhere and doesnt have a million bullshit things to collect, so the exploration felt more organic and fun like when we were kids. Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 have some of the best quest design I can remember in open world games.

I'm pretty much at that point too... aside from Pokemon, where the actual quality of their games has also dropped off to the point where I wouldn't say I like the games anymore. And for the literal largest franchise on the planet, that feels extra unacceptable.
Ive never played and have no interest in Pokemon, but I wouldnt consider that their games anyway, as GameFreak makes them.

Im so sick of open world shit. Hopefully the empty ass desert is a hub connecting you to environments that are actually interesting to explore like a proper Metroidvania.

I just hate how everyone inexplicably acts as if Nintendo is somehow so "evil" for doing the same things that almost everyone else is not only doing, but arguably even worse than Nintendo.
Part of it is that Nintendo has that wholesome, family friendly image like Disney does, while their competitors make no pretense at being anything but corporate shitbags.

As a general rule of life, Id argue people are more tolerant of open assholery than hypocrisy.

Just thought of Dolores Umbridge as the perfect example. Shes one of the most despised villains of all time because shes vile while presenting this sweet, saccharine, everything pink facade to really contrast who she actually is.
