i'll agree with this as well, up to the last few weeks.
i don't think anybody would disagree that she easily wins in September but that kind of momentum couldn't be kept up, she did interviews that didn't go so well or targeted the wrong audience, etc.

mind you i'm still not doom and gloom on her winning or not. she totally still can, it's a long night. but her underperforming is pretty notable here - i expected latinos to go trump over her already, ditto black men to have a surge for trump, but not that the semi-young vote just... wouldn't show up. fell for that propaganda there, i thought there was a greater motivation for her.

arknights is probably my favorite example for something between 1 and 2.
you aren't required to buy items or get stronger but it does help a lot and the game gives you plenty for free without buying anything.

DA2 happened just after ME2 but that's debatable to being called "good." by Bioware standards maybe, considering all you've had since then is ME3, DA:I, Andromeda, and Anthem.

realistically this is gonna be a game where you pick and choose the review/content you want before release, anything after is gonna be different. i'm more curious in seeing if this is gonna be a success or flop.

this is coming off Milei firing the IRS yesterday (new structure remains to be seen what they do but hugely gutted). seems they're up about 15-20% inflation from May so both moves could help keep things stable (bear in mind, that's low inflation for them in recent years).

honestly, you don't.
instead focus on the local elections and the local issues, maybe the state level too. Florida's a good example of how that can work: it's heavily favored for Trump, yet some left leaning policies can still occur at the same or greater margins.

in completely different news, Milei has dissolved Argentina's version of the IRS. it's being replaced by a new agency, with a new streamlined structure (details tba), and only 45% of leadership and 34% of staff are staying. the rest are cut.

the big question is how much of the games on PC do you care there as opposed to consoles. can be for price like you said at the start and if you start with FF7 there, then might as well stay there on the console as Rebirth will be cheaper on the PS5 used over the eventual PC release. if DRM matters to you for PC (e.g., don't want to install games with denuvo) then that can also be a reason to get something on console, though that's a niche reason.

Bloodborne is PS4 but runs well on PS5s so that's a technical "exclusive" if you skipped PS4, apart from what was said already.

the biggest low is definitely Kid Buu basically, that was a form that really wasn't needed and i still think the series could've ended with Gohan saving the day again (again). alas, people were fucking psychos and forced Toriyama to get Goku back.

in terms of what to do next, GT, while not relevant overall, does have a few holdovers that are seen in the games, Super, and Daima. it also is gonna be way better animated than the start of Super because holy hell is it awful. the first two movies were basically recaps of the first 27 episodes with some comedy bits removed and a much higher budget. eventually the show comes to form and all looks great but it does take a minute.

so basically: GT is ignorable but does have some key elements that will be seen again. literally everything in terms of powers and character development is irrelevant as anything that wants to be kept will be, anything else is just chucked away. Super can be either watched straight, ep 1 then movies then ep 28, or just movies then ep 28.

came in to say Terraria as well. i think that game has to be the king of this, free updates for over a decade.

we'll disagree on that, don't see it have an issue with the spirit as it ain't that deep, just open ended to whatever anybody's got however they got it.

70s depends on if you're going slasher fic route or not. was a huge decade for those, of which probably Halloween wins.

80s is tricky because you had some stupid comedies along with some more violent or serious types of movies, along with some futuristic types. Ghostbusters probably overall? as Terminator really got itself settled in afterwards with 2. can see a case for Tron.

00s is probably defined by a movie not in its decade but right before: Matrix. released September 1999. though if it needs to be within the decade itself, either Lord of the Rings or The Dark Knight.

Picking something like Eyes On Me as an answer to this topic is following the letter of the law but not understanding the spirit of the law. It's technically a valid answer, but it's not really what the topic is asking for.

i see it as simply having a different interpretation of the law being said, in both letter and spirit. as in, the way you think of licensed songs isn't the way everyone does. just is a question of what people find best is all and the interpretation they want to use; i had answers to both in mine (not meant for game, licensed songs overall) to satisfy both interps but both are completely valid to the question, nothing technical about it. as are Otherworld or Simple and Clean.

oh i totally forgot the crow existed too. it's one of those movies that when i saw the trailer i was absolutely baffled as to why this was a thing, forgot about it, and then saw the pitch meeting title and went 'wait this came out?'

actually maybe that's more of what it is on my end, just recency bias. The Crow was August, Borderlands was August, Megalopolis was September, Joker was October. Webb gets remembered for the memes but the past 2 months have been absolutely cursed.

i also want Gladiator 2 to be good but after Napoleon last year... i don't have high hopes for Ridley Scott anymore.

considering the game's for sale i don't think there's debate on the covers there, Konami totally had to give the OK to using Bloody Tears.

external contractors are usually going to have clauses that essentially say they're temporary employees but totally not for legally distinct reasons (see: wrestlers, uber). there's a lot of legalese to go in that to more or less have their work be something you own if it's good but if it's bad well, that's their issue.

some are, depends on the terms and contracts. example, i don't think there's any argument when it comes to Mega Man, Snake, Sonic, Belmont or any of the other 3rd parties - those are all very obvious licensed characters, trophies, tracks, etc. but there's plenty of first party tracks and arrangements because it's in-house at Nintendo, fully by Nintendo employees.

nah, there's a notable difference once you involve a third party who isn't working with the game. you can have a song completely unrelated brought in, you can have a song involving unrelated third parties brought in, and you can have a song that's made for the game (and isn't subject to copyright or whatever).

once you involve somebody else it's totally relevant in the conversation of licensed songs. the amount of involvement and the country will play a role in that, for Otherworld i'm not sure Bill Muir gets anything or is involved as Square seems to have no problem chucking that track anywhere it wants. Eyes on Me, there's a problem somewhere and it's probably Faye Wong specific. for something more removed but still relevant, Simple and Clean had Nomura directly get Utada to do and it would be a licensed track where Utada is credited for lyrics and composition. all are fair game when talking about this.

being written by him doesn't necessarily matter though.

Eyes on Me is the classic example for this. despite it being composed by him, the version FF8 uses isn't always on the official albums because of - most likely - licensing issues with Faye Wong. it also released on her album prior to the game's release, even if it was explicitly meant for FF8.

i mean the issue with all of these movies is that they don't have a real target audience, that's why they all bombed.

i'll always disagree with this notion of "oh they liked it for the wrong reasons." like no, you just presented a character that had traits which were so obviously likeable and understood, despite the negative aspects, that he resonates well with people. the idea of liking him for the "wrong reason" is essentially admitting that you accidentally made a good character with depth.

it's basically Rorschach and Watchman all over again. though considering the way this movie ends, while everything is very spelled out it's done in such a way that i don't think there's argument against the idea that he should've stayed evil. and that's a wild result to leave because it's totally not the desired takeaway. it just happens to also be an answer hard to argue against.

mvno basically means any cell service provider that doesn't own the actual radio towers. for the US that's literally anyone who isn't t-mobile, att, or verizon. what those 3 companies do, in order to keep their monopoly legally, is allow other companies to use their towers but have data/calls go at lower priority.

mint mobile is one of those companies and they use t-mobile. ...at least, i think they technically still are. they're in a weird situation because t-mobile owns them 100% now, they got bought out, but are working independently. that might make them the best of both worlds - cheaper than regular t-mobile but also with better priority than others. honestly, i wouldn't underestimate t-mobile's offerings either, personally i'm on their $25/month prepaid plan and get unlimited calling, texting, and 8GB of data. they just raised the data on these plans so depending on my needs i might go down a tier since 5GB may be enough anyway.

other common mvno are Google Fi and Tello. it used to be that the former is better for international, the latter for data, but these days dunno how it goes.

i've used it before, didn't really notice a difference from tmobile (which i normally use). but i also used it only for 3 months in that discount period. no complaints, it's solid enough, one of the better MVNO in terms of price/performance. and if you're looking for a term that describes these not-Tmobile/ATT/Verizon companies, that's what it is, MVNO.

i don't think that works either. based on spoilers it seems like the clearest lesson isn't gonna be what the director wants again, again. if he just kept being joker then he would've had it all. clear takeaway is "don't flinch, give no quarter. if you're going mad then embrace the madness."

can't say i intend to because i don't really see the point. Joker was a complete movie. Quinn doesn't need to be made relevant and she's literally an add-on from the TV show that got famous. yeah she's got a story and development now but it's just not the same, she ain't The Joker. doesn't help that we've already got a very serviceable version of her by Margot Robbie so... why, really. for the darker tone in that universe? doesn't seem like a setting she really fits in and definitely doesn't seem like something i'd ask Gaga for since she's nowhere close to Phoenix as an actor.

thing about taiwan also is that japan has explicitly said they'd consider it an act of war and would immediately rev up a military, as per the treaty after WW2. the koreas would also likely get involved shortly after, split between Japan/Korea/Taiwan and China/North Korea. wouldn't take much to get other Asian countries (see: any country within the seven seas, Vietnam) or Australia either. basically you need economic and militaristic power alongside global relevance and unfortunately China/Taiwan/Japan alone accomplishes this threshold. soon as the Koreas come in that's it.

now there'll come a time when Taiwan won't be as relevant yeah. but still a good decade from that so it ends up just being a case where China can start a world war and... that's it.

this is kind of a difficult answer.
most of us are in the US, this means that we ended up watching the series loop repeatedly again and again on toonami and by the time the buu saga came out it was already 2002. for perspective, Dragon Ball GT finished airing in 1997 in Japan. when Z aired here it was already done over there and other countries had long since picked it up. pretty sure literally all of latin america saw it before we had even gotten to Buu, maybe even before Cell.

so while it was a big deal it wasn't something that had as much of a freakout because if you were interested you were eating up spoilers left and right. considering the time period, very real chance you were downloading stuff off the college's internet or DSL and catching up as much as you can with subs, spanish dubs, or still using shady VHS tapes.

closest you'll get is the global reaction to DB Super, which literally had stadiums watching and made a minor international spat happen because Japan told Mexico to stop doing watch parties like that and they were completely ignored.

if you're firmly in the "climate change ruining everything" camp then victim blaming doesn't make sense because you're aware that models aren't accurate anymore and that people can't be at fault for major shifts to the way they live their lives. i don't think anyone in this camp is going to be a dick like this.

but if you aren't fully there, especially if you don't believe climate change is a big deal, you probably fall more under the 'act of god' camp (which, if you talk insurance, is something they don't cover explicitly as 'act of god' provisions). at which point, it's literally god, wouldn't make sense to victim blame here. weirdly some would despite that, it's just never processed. that's why i said this is the weirdest twist: it's like you identify that the person can't be at fault because it's something literally at the level of a divine being's actions, yet blame them anyway.

nah that image's point is that pokemon uses the same animals with certain similarities. they're definitely unique but of course they used some of those creatures as direct inspiration and direct things to rip from, which isn't some kind of secret. fairly common knowledge that DQ5 was the direct inspired of Pokemon so of course it's gonna be the direct inspiration of the monsters.

palworld goes a step further with some stuff that def looks the same but it's a harder fight since there's probably enough differences anyway. that was always the argument then and still is now.

yeah this is pretty blatant sarcasm and a joke. you can tell from tucker laughing as vance says the joke. also can tell it's a joke because tucker calls him 'weird' which is the whole narrative there against him. people have probably said this about the dog or questioned his relationship with it so he just leaned into the joke with deadpan humor.

but we just proved that you can do all those things within 2 months. kamala has so much money to burn on her campaign right now that i don't think she can spend it fast enough at this point. she should be at well over a billion since becoming the nominee and that's more than literally every other presidential nominee outside of 2020. the bags of money can save themselves for a blitz campaign and fuck off after.

i mean there's a point to be made that kamala having more off the cuff interviews would be good for the people but frankly that isn't what she's running. she has done amazing at sticking to her strengths and talking points 90% of the time, she took note of every single trait people said was unlikeable and tweaked it/flat out removed it, and is absolutely nailing the character of leader who knows what she's doing.

i think she's had like one or two slipups but they're so low key and need you to pay attention to way too much politics to matter. by and large, she's running one of the best campaigns ever right now and she's starting to target the more moderate/independent group now so she's doing great at segmenting the populace. feels like some of that part might be coming from Walz really. two months down, if she does this a month and a half more then that should be it.

and hopefully this is a clear sign that we seriously do not need 2 fucking years for an election season. fuck all the media that has incentivized this, i would vastly, vastly prefer a 3-6 month election tops.

biggest surprise for me was Shinmai Ossan. it starts with him being kinda lame as if he's unsure of how strong he is and rapidly accelerates to something way, way better.
