Ordinary people need education and economic independence. We've known this from since before America was even a country. The Founders knew it. FDR knew it. It was at some point after that we forget it somehow.

People are not well trained for democracy when their education is trash and does not teach them to be well equipped to parse statistics and history, to have a good BS detector and media literacy, and to rationally but constantly question authority and tradition.

People are not well trained for democracy when they think it's limited to once every four years, meanwhile for 40-100 hours a week, for most of their waking hours, they're subject to extreme control at work including surveillance, union busting, speech restrictions, threats of firing, outsourcing, etc.

We don't have the essential conditions for a functioning democracy. We have the perfect conditions for oligarchy, plutocracy, kleptocracy, that's why that's what we're seeing.

No. Too many of them are simply business owners, lawyers, doctors, military people etc. All people with no history of opposition or struggle and entirely in line with whatever the status quo happened to be at the time. It's no surprise that they're entirely failing to meet the moment.

They were elected because they had good political consultants, met the right people in college, or were the best at assuring donors they wouldn't rock the boat. Not for their organizing skills.

The companies are large corporations. Owned by billionaires who are often personally conservative and even if they're not, they're still billionaires so they're not any type of leftist or change agent.

And the people who get trusted to write or appear on TV for these large corporations are typically not people who will rock the boat or muckrakers. They're the types that don't have to be told bend the knee, it was either already bent or ready to bend.

I don't think he's a limpdick or doesn't understand what's happening. I think he just doesn't oppose it that much and supports a lot of it. The Democratic Party has some pretty conservative people in it, especially in the Senate. He's happy to let it happen and have Trump take the heat for it.

I do kind of get where they're coming from.

Disrupting Trump just adds fuel to the "Dems won't let us do things so now we need to double down/another term to do things!" rhetoric the GOP loves to engage in.

The Dems seem to want Trump to have opportunity to publicly state/do what he's doing, while resisting legally behind the scenes to stop the more obscene stuff, and let Trump eat all the crow regarding tarrifs, legal fights, etc.

Not saying it's the best move in this moment, but I do understand why they think it's a smart move.

They say that regardless of what we do. There's no disruptive democratic response right now and they're already planning for a third term and destroying the federal government to remove all checks on their power going forward.

We can't be paralyzed into inaction out of concern for how they might react. They're already reacting beyond anything we imagined. They're rewriting the rules as we speak and playing a fundamentally different game than Jeffries is. It's time to understand that and act accordingly.

They are reporting on Jeffries actions (or rather inactions) and statements. They're not making these things up. There's not some effective resistance these outlets are refusing to report on. He's actually counting exclusively on a Trump crash to save our bacon, he's not willing to deviate from business as usual. In the time of an internal coup.

If there's evidence to the contrary and these outlets are just hiding it from us all and most Democrats who want way more fight, please present it.

Our ruling class is unconnected to movements of real resistance and far more concerned with losing the favor of billionaires or the appearance of disorder than having a government. We elected the wrong people, but the economy and society as it currently exists would never have elected the right ones.

The saving push will come from the people, not governors or Senators or people in robes. It comes down to solidarity, civil disobedience, refusing illegal orders, strikes, and general disruption.

We are, a lot of us are just in fear or hoping that we can get through this by putting our heads down and doing our work. That's kind of the fundamental orientation of a lot of feds and our work rules and restrictions encourage that. But when you're talking about mass firings, shuttering whole agencies, selling our offices out from under us after forcing us to return to them, and just personal insults like this email, eventually the safety is revealed to be a mirage and the anger takes over. We're rapidly rapidly approaching that point, all it'll take is an incident or two to set things off and this might be one of those incidents.

Democrats are institutionalists and wouldn't have stood for it. Republicans would have gone to war over it. The reason that this works is that Dems will defend institutions whether they're in charge of them or having them weaponized against them and Republicans are willing to abuse them in the majority or the minority. That goes for both politicians and voters. It's easy to break things when you're a sociopath and don't care what happens either way as long as you're still rich.

What I think about this guy would absolutely get me modded. They are attempting to "govern" through terror and chaos. We all had a sense those suspicious ass "confirm receipt" emails would lead to something like this.

There were nationwide anti Republican protests multiple days this week. People protested at government buildings and outside of Tesla and Space X headquarters. There's constant protests as close as people can get to the Whitehouse.

The fact that you're not acknowledging that and are instead choosing to be the white guy cherry picking random tweets from anti leftist black people is telling that you're simply allergic to criticism of Democrats.

It blinds you to reality at your own peril. Just like you couldn't acknowledge that most people, including most Democrats thought Biden was too old and didn't want him to run, leading us to this situation, you can't seem to acknowledge that most Democrats, not just white leftists think elected Dems aren't doing enough to resist.

We are undergoing a coup as we speak, my coworkers are being fired and impoverished at random, and in one breath he's telling us that he's doing everything he can, meanwhile also saying there's nothing he can do and spending time selling books like it's 2013. This is a crisis moment for our country, it's no time for business as usual.

He needs to be spending his time calling up the unions and giving them his blessing and support to organize a general strike, that's a little more important than selling your memoir.

Instead, it's an illegal collection of tech bros stealing private data, kicking out and holding agency personnel hostage, and conducting mass illegal firings almost at random, canceling contracts, freezing funds etc. That's not Project 2025, that's RAGE (Retire All Government Employees), and it's even worse and far more illegal. I actually do feel sorry for everyone in this position, imagine being so bamboozled that you vote yourself into homelessness, meanwhile the guy you voted for is cutting all social supports and will likely criminalize homelessness.

A certain type of person has been trained since birth to love this and not see the evil and misdirection here.

I'm out there. We passed the line awhile back. But it takes organizing or an existential crisis to get people willing to do go there. We have mostly shuttered our organizing institutions and abilities in this country, so it usually takes mass pain.

I'm still going for the organizing route though.
