Growing up, most of the most racist people I met (ignoring the one kid who was probably at Charlottesville and January 6th) were Mexican Americans. Racism is a structure, ideology, and a way of thinking, being a victim doesn't prevent someone from being a perpetrator.

Is that considered a white collar crime? Those are legal for at least the next four years so there's no risk at all!

She has terrible political instincts and no core political beliefs or orientation that has ever been discernable or appealing. We need absolutely zero retreads going forward. No one connected to either Clinton, Obama, or Biden.

These are our defenders. These are the "opposition" party. It's no wonder that we find ourselves in this position. We didn't just suddenly arrive here with no guardrails; we've been fucking up for a looooong time. Electing people like this has disastrous consequences. We should have been doing far better all along. They are not the best among us. They're some of the worst.

Because those were the last jobs where you didn't have to spend an additional half decade or more in college in order to have access to a middle-class lifestyle, where people had unions jobs and pensions, stable employment, etc.

But it's become a symbol for a bygone era that was killed by the same people touting "factory jobs" now. If the factories come back to the US or UK or wherever, it won't come with high paying union jobs, it'll be robots and some AI engineers.

The protests were full of leftists, the left largely supported them and attended them. It's true that the protests didn't really have a theory of change or next steps that would put a check on Trump.

That's what the left you hate so much will have to provide because no one else will. It'll be militant organized labor that leads the way here or nothing.

There was far more police repression during the George Floyd protests than there was yesterday. Possibly because the protest wasn't targeted at the police this time.

Better than nothing. The best I've seen so far is Bernie and Warren, along with that house member that called for a general strike. That's the way.

Call the Congress people on any committee that covers health or science and demand that the RIFs be stopped. These people haven't been fired yet. They're on leave or have 60 days for you to intervened. Join in the protests this weekend, on May Day, and on May 3rd.

Show up at town halls. Don't think it's not worth it, as bad as things are, I can tell you they've been scared about making even worse or more immediate cuts due to focused backlash.

The oppression they were terrified of the government enacting was gender quality, racial equality, and redistribution of wealth. The government is enforcing the opposite at gunpoint and they're ecstatic about it. It was never about state violence and control, they're all for that.

It's the same dynamic we saw with pro monarchy people during the French Revolution. They had no problem with and encouraged state violence by the monarch but had fever dreams about lawless actions by the republic.

You bet your ass I'll be there.

There's nothing here worth seeing or doing enough to deal with this. We need a total collapse of tourism, higher education, and international students to drive home our pariah status.

Unfortunately, the working class is comprised of people who have been indoctrinated to despise Democrats no matter what they do. It doesn't help that they have little to no idea how actual governing works and expect things to be super quick and efficient. And besides, there is little point in forming solidarity with people who refuse to change their bigoted ways and do better.

True that a lot of people have been brainwashed and that it'll be hard to change. But it hasn't even been tried in any type of organized way. There's a lot of mass political education and detoxifying that'll need to happen, but I think it can be done.

It's possible for people to drop the bigotry if you understand the source and cut if off. Some people just suck and won't change for sure. But there's millions who are just contrarians, who have terrible sources and no one they respect challenging their narratives, people who are in scarcity mindsets, people who think they are fighting their true enemies by hating black people or trans people etc. I think it's possible to convert or deactivate enough of them for significant change to happen and quickly. We're in a crisis moment, now's the time to do it, both because we have to and because these are the times where minds can change most easily.

It's true that the Democrats as they currently exist and politics as they currently exist will not be able will not be able to fix the damage being done now in 4 years, it's harder to build than destroy. But that doesn't mean that this is a winning message or that it's the only option.

The slow pace of change is not going to be enough. Politics that only slow the pace of decline is not enough and right wing populists thrive in that environment. When the only prospect for significant change comes from the right, that's when we often get fascism.

The Democratic Party that wins next time, if there is a next time, is going to have to be a transformed party. You can post stuff like this all you want, but it's not going to work. That's not politics. You have to promise change and plan to get there. There's more than enough power to create drastic change and all the safeguards and rules don't mean anything if you amass enough power at the right points, as we're seeing. The right is doing it through money and media control. Democrats MUST do it through working class power. That's the only thing that even has the potential to get us out of this.

They don't want and can't understand any analysis of what fascism actually is because then they'd be forced to understand and confront that they're fascists themselves.

On the bright side, this isn't like a deportation, it's not something he can do quickly that's within his wheelhouse like immigration. This is entirely a state level issue and all he can do is try to bully states and politicians that very much don't have an interest in doing this into compliance. And our (lower) courts aren't so degraded (yet) as to allow most of this. Now, what the SC does, that's always anyone's guess.

It all makes sense. Their actions don't compute with thinking you'll ever have to deal with a real election again. They're going fast enough to break things while not creating immediate street violence. They're constricting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc, but not so fast that things immediately collapse and people can still convince themselves it's nothing happening or won't happen to them.

This is the time to resist, it'll only get harder from here.

For the billionth time, being a billionaire fries your brain and alienates you from humanity and what most other humans think and experience.

The society they have set up there is pretty bad imo. They should stop.

The right knows how to cleave society into large organized coalitions vs smaller ones. Whites vs non whites, patriarchal people vs feminists, homeowners vs renters, religious vs non religious.

Liberals and rich people absolutely refuse to base the party on the biggest divide of them all, rich vs non rich, working people vs those with functionally infinite wealth.

That's the core problem. The Republican party operates entirely on selfishness and identity politics. Working class vs non working class is the only cross cutting identity or interest that could compete in terms of numbers. That's the only way forward and always has been.

"I'm not stepping down" statements often come right before stepping down. They happen when someone is really feeling the pressure. Organizations and individuals with influence should be demanding that he step down.

If we still want a normie leader, Murphy or Merkley are good bets. We don't necessarily need a socialist, just someone that'll organize people to fight rather than capitulate.

It must be understood that the Democratic Party as currently constituted and as it currently operates is toxic. And it has been since at least 2016. They keep assuming that the fear caused by rising fascism will be enough to hand them the win despite that, and they've been catastrophically wrong twice now.

They are seen as out of touch, consultant driven, and worst of all, weak. They cannot channel public sentiment which is the number one thing right now. The public wants to see people calling out the corporate coup going on AND acting accordingly. AOC and Bernie are doing that. A few others are too. The rest of them are paralyzed. It's time for them to get out of the way, there's zero evidence they're fit for the moment, whatever you think of their politics.

Full circle. Only Nixon could go to China, and only Trump could take America back into the UK.

You would have disabled people and the elderly literally on the streets dying if this happens. I don't want it to happen, I want it stopped so that suffering never occurs. But if it does happen, I hope they experience every ounce of pain they cause to others.

AOC and Bernie is where all the energy is, the others have nothing, it's time for them to step out of the way. The establishment had one job, win elections, and they couldn't do that. Now their job is to lead in a time of crisis and they clearly can't. So, it's time for them to get out of the way and retire to a quiet villa and let the people with a pulse and something to lose lead. In fact, it's time for us to force them out. Or just bypass them, they can either follow or become irrelevant.

Sure wish we got a do over here in the USA.

Palestine is clearly the weapon they've chosen to destroy free speech with, this was always predictable. This is the same thing they did with DEI and CRT, on an even larger scale. Attacking all pro justice movements by claiming they're discriminatory against some chosen in group.

Damn, if asdf is fed up, Dems really really really messed up here. This is the time for a Democratic Tea Party. It doesn't necessarily need to be DSA members that take the mantle, but the new leaders absolutely need to be fighters and communicators. Jeffries out. Schumer out. Durbin out.

This, start well before the next general election and make a show of refusing to vote for anyone that voted for cloture today. Build coalitions on that basis and scare them into change for self preservation. Do a non-evil version of the Tea Party.

Someone who unites the party, knows how to communicate, will fight billionaires, and isn't governed by fear. Those are the qualifications. Unfortunately, I think a party that chooses Jeffries and Schumer to lead and that always magically has a Lieberman, a Manchin, a Sinema, and has Cuellars in it will refuse to be united by her.

There is no criticism of Democrats that some of you would accept. Specifically sfcalimari. Even moderate elected Democrats believe they fucked this up and gave the whole country away, the whole board, even people who usually defend Dems to the hilt are disgusted at their actions, and yet here you are arguing that we all would have blamed them because reasons. Even actual paid staffers of the Democratic Party don't cape as hard as you are.

We need a labor party yesterday and I won't hear any different at this point. A few Dems can join. Anyone that voted for this is disqualified.

The last few months might mean the permanent collapse of the Democratic Party. With a few exceptions, they've shown themselves to be unequipped for the moment as individuals and as a party. Schumer and Jeffries most of all.

Americans love a winning bully. They abhor a week loser. And the party as a whole is a weak loser party, uninterested in true strength.

Absolute criminal insanity. In a just world, he's in jail, and these orgs aren't begging for grants to save us all.
