Why else would you invite them on your show. Surely we know better than to stage this like CNN and their panels of commenters where the framing makes both sides look equal and grants both participants legitimacy in the appearance of "bias towards the middle." Not every story has two sides. And now that pundits like Kellyanne or Lord are in the soup, these people are dispensing with the illusion of sanity entirely to just throw talking points at their bases and mire the discussion in deflection, false equivalence, and straight up untruths.

The only journalistically responsible thing to do is not put them on your air at all. The next best thing you can do is shut them down, because people are leaving these crazy CNN battle royales less educated, not more.

Asuka hates Shinji because she feels she is inferior to him as a pilot. She resorts to seduction and her sexuality so that she feels she has some power over him. However, she ends up feeling even more angry and defeated because to her it looks like Shinji is immune to her charms. In her eyes, Shinji is defeating her all over again.

I want to add to this, that Asuka is unable to self actualize, and has struggled with this ever since her mother went though the EVA prototype experiments and came out of it as an aloof husk of a human being. She either couldn't or refused to recognize her own daughter. Asuka tries desperately to get her mother to acknowledge her, even submitting herself to the EVA program and earning the right to pilot the EVA her mother gave her heart and literal soul to, only discover her mother has hanged herself and she will never experience her acknowledgement again.

From that point on Asuka lives for the praise of others. If not for her pilot skills then for her brains. If not for her brains then for her body. The dysfunction of NERV only aggravates her issues because none of them are equipped to step into the role of parental surrogate either. Not aloof/alcoholic Misato. Not even Kaji, who's been her guardian for years is present in her life consistently enough to fill the role of a parent. Worse still, because he's such a mystery, Asuka has ascribed conflicting sets of expectations about him, both as a surrogate father, and as an object of sexual attraction. Single-minded, Kaji doesn't acknowledge either of those things and never does. So Asuka looks to Shinji and Rei for actualization, but they're just as damaged as she is, and Rei is barely even a whole person because of the human isolation of growing up with Gendo. When she attempts to live without the praise of others the circumstances of Kaoru on the base and her falling sync rate undermines her self-worth eventually leading to psychic assault that essentially 'kills' her for the rest of the series.

Shinji is a uniquely tragic comedy of errors. At series start he's at least stable. He's definitely got abandonment issues, fear of intimacy, and no self-esteem. But he's on the fence. He can get better or he can get worse.

Though half the series you think NERV is helping to grow his feelings of self worth and assertiveness through tough love and reward, but then Leliel happens and it becomes clear that no one working in that facility has any business working with kids, that all of the kids themselves had to suffer crushing losses to even sync up and pilot their mechs, and that his emotional abusive father will never change. We don't expect psych patients to suddenly shrug off what ails them without therapy and counselling so it's ridiculous to expect it here. It's only once you realize NERV is a hole in the ground full of semi-functional psych patients, that shit gets interesting,

Often yes. I think Cersei is missing some key details though that make her seem crazy and 'wrong genre savvy' instead of stifled and frustrated by Tywin's iron grip patriarchy, and low-key jealous of Jamie and Tyrion. She may not supposed to be sympathetic, but to some degree her motivations should make sense, and I often think they don't.

Apparently it's awkward for pounding, because they have no leverage, but I don't think I've ever topped in this position, so I don't really have anything concrete to contribute to that side of things. For bottoming, I like it because it lets me control how deep I want to let my partner go and give me more control over angle of penetration. Yeah. The actual lore of the show is fluff. The first handful of antagonist encounters are primarily there to show us how slapdash and dysfunctional NERV is, and how our heroes are barely holding it together. The trick is they use it to make NERV look heroic and scrappy and so we root for them as underdogs.

Then the latter collection of encounters begins and it's the writers poking and stabbing everyone's fears, neuroses, and overcompensation past their breaking points. Now everyone is varying flavors of pathetic the sheen of heroism is gone, and it's all uncomfortably intimate character studies of people you used to like.

Then End of Eva happens. I think of EoE like I think MGS2 and Hideo Kojima. Both them exist as responses to fandom hype, which is to say they exist because fans demanded them. And both of them are attempts of their creators to take back their own creative agency. They topically, and perhaps even cruelly dismantle and humiliate their audiences and the expectations they brought to the show. People left theaters confused and unable to like the characters they'd optimistically rooted for from the show. EoE had the nerve to do that while also being one of the best animated feature films ever (a distinction many believe it maintains).

I was in fifth grade back when this was getting theater play overseas. VHS tapes of EVA had been circulating here for maybe a year, and the series was getting buzz in the US that turned our attention to the theatrical releases happening in Japan. So all I was reading was translations of Japanese fan opinions. Even with all those layers of separation, and barely knowing the plot details of the movie itself (supplementary materials explaining the lore wouldn't be translated for like a decade), I could see how sharply divisive that film was.

I'd absolutely see it. That was one of the first shows I'd seen that was willing to show us a non-heroic protagonist, and that actually broke down the protagonist over the season instead of built him up to some unrealistic ideal. Yes, if I wanted to watch anime for power fantasy, I'm going to leave disappointed. But the cause of that disappointment is my expectations, not the show. There are several moments like that in EVA where the writing refuses to offer you the comfort you'd come to expect of the genre.

To alienate anyone who might read this, I actually want to compare its effect on anime to the effect Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice has on the novel. Historically, the metafictional conversation EVA carried on with the rest of the industry completely altered the artistic direction of anime as a medium and indisputably heightened it's potential for self awareness. Other writers realized there were expectations and conventions seemingly endemic to the anime medium and genre that should be played with and explored. The realization of any artistic ambitions would manifest in how they further advanced the conversation EVA launched.

I love that FLCL is the project Gainax tackled after EVA. FLCL obfuscates and hides it's sincerity for most of it's run time, but once it starts to solidify, we realize that EVA and FLCL are having very similar thematic conversations, and concealing that with the stylistic bombast of their genre and medium experiments.

Victims often don't see charges because of manipulation from their abusers or pressure from their lawyers who might intentionally discourage them from seeking justice using the fear of a long expensive and invasive litigation.

Abuse is often hard to prove. Even if you're lucky enough to have a police report drawn up detailing a specific instance of abuse all that proves is one instance of abuse, not a cycle or pattern. And a lot of police don't like to file these kinds of reports because they often never get pulled or looked at again, and that's assuming they're sympathetic to the victim. They may not be, or may not think the momentary rough patch is worth anyone's legal trouble. This is all assuming police intervention even happens, too. Again, it doesn't.

I like tofu that knows it's tofu and doesn't pretend to be anything else. As a meat substitute, I've found tofu is often a bit disappointing.

Aburaage is delightful with a sprinkling of dried fish. Soft tofu in miso or clear noodle soup is always wonderful, and mapotofu will kick anyone's ass.

Tofu for tofu's sake will always snatch those trophies over those meat-pretending queens who don't love themselves.
