character evidence is often allowed in trials. the alex murdaugh trial is a prime example of this. the fact that shittenhouse was known to start violent confrontations and has a history of stating he wants to murder protestors is pertinent, and will be allowed in the civil case.

shittenhouse is getting sued and may be fucked in the civil case. the judge in the criminal case didn't let in the information that he sucker punches girls or wanted to kill protestors or was hanging out with neo nazis, but civil cases are less stringent in that regard. he may end up getting oj'd and owing money for the rest of his life

yeah the suit basically says that a conviction isn't necessary (or at least one of em is arguing that). it is citing the confederates that were barred from running for federal office. i think that is really unlikely to succeed though tbh. hopefully trump gets convicted in his federal/state cases at least. i find it hard to believe he can win regardless but if he is a convicted felon i can't imagine any independent voters would vote for him

oh yeah i would definitely disagree with that. we have double jeopardy for criminal liability (in most cases anyway, not all). civil court was never meant to be the same avenue as criminal. you have cases where the jury obviously got it wrong like oj simpson or casey anthony or you have cases where the prosecution probably brought unrealistic charges in overcharging like rittenhouse or just bungled the case in some way.

Ignoring the specific case, I do think that the courts ruling that a death was a valid case of self defense should preclude wrongful death suits being made against the defender. The courts have already determined the death to not be wrongful.

not how it works. oj simpson was found not guilty of murder but was liable for the deaths in civil court. the bar is much lower for civil court. rittenhouse is definitely responsible for wrongful deaths since he repeatedly talked about his wish to shoot protestors and the fact he illegally obtained a gun and brought it for the sole purpose of using it.
