also 2000s He-Man 1 ep down this is immediately a great improvement from New Adventures. bless coming back to the original setting, and this time it's just fleshing it out and doing it with more intentioned characterization, even starting with Adam's backstory this time which he lacked in the original. original still has its merits but this is cool so far. *episode 2* oh man mekaneck such improvement. The original Skelator will always be THE Skelator I feel, but they're doing a good job at making this one much more true to form to the original while also being a more serious of a character

he was my least favourite FF character at the time I played XII, although the very next week XIII taught me worse. but the biggest thing for Vaan is a) being a decent kid in Revenant Wings and b) also being fine in DFFOO, and having some good periods where I liked using him

also both dffoo alts are cool (the first being his Revenant Wings costume that fixed his design ages ago)

I don't hate him anymore, I kinda like him, although I am due for an XII replay

Although I also know there's a lot of people who refuse to see black & white stuff so there's that too. Would kinda be funny if they made the ending with colours disappearing instead. Would make no sense, but funny.

XI is still very much an old MMO, it doesn't have the stuff like XIV matchmaking. menu navigation is pretty garbage

like you have to type /map to open up the map instead of for comparison XIV you just press M

also in XI you have to purchase maps for each area, until you do you'll get a blank page on your map that just say you don't have the map

I'm still a fan of the game but you absolutely have to reset your brain to early 2000s MMOs

you can use add-ons like Windower to like add a mini-map (that's still very shitty), or tell you when you can use Weaponskills in a skill chain (or magic burst)... which is honestly very strongly recommended and I have no idea how people play the game without that add-on

XI & XIV both have a Trusts system that lets you beat content with NPC allies

also though I mean honestly XIV's matchmaking system makes it a complete non-issue to party with randoms for necessary content. In XI you don't have that, you either have to socialize & find people to help you or you're relying entirely on Trusts

Systems are incredibly different though - in XI, normal field exploration does honestly expect you to have a party, so Trusts are NPCs you can actually summon to fight with you anywhere. In XIV you're only really expected to have a party for dungeons/bosses, most of the game / exploration is totally suited for single-player gameplay. You can party anywhere still but it's very much feels more like a boost in XIV than XI feels like you're just reaching parity with what you should be doing.

XIV Trust / NPC dungeons are pretty much the regular dungeon matchmaking experience except all your partners are now NPCs who only act following you. I like to do it on my first clears but otherwise I mean use the duty finder.

I wouldn't be concerned about XIV activity until a new FF MMO comes, and even then you should still have a couple years

and yeah like I mentioned XI even got new main story just this summer and that game's from 2002

my XI beating includes initial MSQ and all expansions up to Rhapsodies of Vana'diel - except for Abyssea because I ran into another boss that does Charm so I can't solo, but it's technically listed as "add-on" content different to the "expansion" term

all expansions have had a main story heroine - Lion for the initial MSQ + Rise of the Zilart which completes it, Prishe for Chains of Promathia, Aphmau for Treasures of Aht Urhgan, Lilisette for Wings of the Goddess, Arciela for Seekers of Adouline, and even Iroha for the finale Rhapsodies of Vana'diel post-content which requires completion of all expansions and brings them together

there's currently another MSQ post-RoV that's running, The Voracious Resurgence... *fake edit* oh it completed this summer

but as far as I can tell it doesn't even have a story heroine and it's weird because RoV was the perfect culmination of the entire game but *shrug* I guess I can't comment since I didn't start VR. not sure how soloable it is.

earlier in season 1 they demonstrated she-ra does in fact need a helmet in space - he-man tossed a grappling hook to catch skeletor's spaceship and she-ra started climbing the rope but as she ascended she needed to transform her sword into a helmet to breath

fastforward to the 3rd last episode of s2 and She-Ra & He-Man are just riding Swift Wind in space no helmet for anyone, capturing bad guys as well and holding them up in the vacuum of space no big deal

oh man farmer sounds like it could be a big deal considering the farming genre

the Ashe train happened before I played XII, but it sure felt like a meme under Kleenex

I have always hated XIII's battle system and the stagger mechanic that has since become a mainstay to Final Fantasy

last year square ruined DFFOO with what's effectively a stagger system, although it at least finally saw an improvement this week

like yeah these shows from day 1 he-man have always been about teaching morals to kids but god this is just so silly. girl if you can't break your promise then there is no "something else", you promised to obey and not escape

And He-Man just came in and broke her free without her being able to communicate anything about her promise

yeah we talked about it in the victory thread about how Vanille hate definitely was a thing in the early days of XIII's release.

honestly I would place her just after Hope in a ranking of how much hate the characters received

that ranking would go Hope > Vanille > Snow > Lightning > Fang > Sazh

Note this is not the same as a popularity ranking in reverse. Like Fang isn't as hated as Lightning, but I would definitely say Lightning is loved more. Likewise Snow would probably drop to the bottom of the love rankings.

my only experience with Noel (not counting the XIII-2 demo I largely forget) is in dffoo and he was pretty cool in the chapter he was introduced

There Cloud of Darkness starts speaking to him as a voice in his head for accompaniment, while she warns him of her "abominable" visage and that she will become his enemy in time but Noel's like nah your kindness has kept me alive to this point

He's eventually found by Serah/Celes/Locke/Paine/Eiko, when hearing his story Celes relates to Serah's explanation that he was a lone survivor in a desolate future world. Next scene with the party shocked at how Materia carelessly left him in the desert where Noel then talks about the voice who kept him company and the trivial things they talked about.

It was a p cool introduction and I've had no reason to dislike him yet! he also recently got re-released with a pretty wild infinite looping mechanic when teamed with Cor
