The DLC's good. Nuka World was a surprisingly fun and detailed worldspace, especially if you've ever been to Disney World and can spot the references / parodies. Far Harbor kinda suffers from more-of-the-same vibe, but it's still a fun and creepy new worldspace to explore and has a few interesting characters. Automatron's got a short and sweet main quest with a great final battle, and adds new side content that has a crazy amount of customization for a modern Bethesda game. Vault-Tec Workshop is nice for bringing non-crap structural options and a large interior buildspace to settlement-building, plus you can get a few laughs by trolling the Overseer and building a Vault that's actually beneficial to its residents.

Sucks that your autosave got corrupted. But a good (if hard) lesson to make a hardsave every 5-10 min whenever you're playing a Beth game. I turn autosaves off now by default, they've been unreliable ever since Oblivion.

I usually save the Omerta and White Glove quests until endgame, since they're a lot of fun and don't have loot rewards that I've just gotta have early-on.

Vault 11's so damn good, it's one of my favorite gaming memories. Vault 34 too, I loved creepy intensity of constant radiation.

Not for nothing, but while I see Fallout 4 as an overall improvement on the hot mess that was 3 and would defend it appropriately, holy hell did they drop the ball down a sewer drain with 4's Vaults. At least 3 had Vault 87, which was one of the few true highlights of the game.

I was actually going to respond to the second quoted post earlier with the same answer as the first post, but got sidetracked. Pew Pew may be off-putting with its ammo hogging and subsequent small clip size, but it's still the most brutal EC-consuming weapon in the game. I actually let those downsides put me off to it until my last playthrough because I'm usually incredibly stingy with my ammo, and I'm glad I finally gave it another chance. It's one of those things where you have to play it a bit for yourself and see how delightfully powerful it is. Just be sparing with it and save it for finishing off high-DT enemies who get a little too close, or mid-range sneak attacks.

Yeah, getting a specific weapon mod from a vendor can be a bitch in this game; the vendor restock is screwy in general, and some vendors never restock properly period. And the generic traveling merchants who most reliably carry GRA mods can die easily and permanently.

Your best bets are Gun Runners Vendotron and Old Lady Gibson. Chet might carry laser rifle mods, but they might be too high a level for him.

Don't forget Knock-Knock ^^

And if you're thinking of switching to Energy Weapons on a more regular basis, I'd recommend the Vigilant Recycler perk. Thanks to GRA it unlocks efficient ammo recipes that are on-par with max charge damage-wise but are lighter and easier on degradation (this is also the only way to get improved Flamer Fuel). I never gave it much consideration because I never knew about the GRA recipes, but now I'll never do without it on an Energy build.

And iirc the Crimson Caravan rep is just your general NCR rep.

You should be in the clear then. Just save before starting Raul's unmarked quest, talk to all three guys, then make sure a dialogue scene with Raul triggers after each one (in Ranger Andy's case you need to exit his house). And of course be consistent with your answers to Raul; one path will get him an awesome outfit and some nice guns, the other will bump up his repair, and it's fairly easy to tell which choices will direct him down which path (and iirc you can switch him to the other path at the end with a high speech check).

In the vanilla release his quest would bug out if you've already talked to Ranger Andy in Novac; one of the many bugs I got on my disastrous first playthrough (Sterling and Loyal should be fine regardless, even if the former wound up at Camp Forlorn Hope). This might be something that got fixed with patches, but out of paranoia I never enter Ranger Andy's cabin before recruiting Raul (which is a pain, because that Ranger Taledown is sweet to have early).

The Danjuro from Final Fantasy XII.

I hate the great crystal enough without trying to chain things in there.

One of my go-to reminders that God is real and occasionally throws us a bone is the one and only time I ever got a Danjuro. At a certain point I'd farmed maybe 30 Larva Eaters, with all the necessary killing to get each one to spawn; there's supposedly a glitch to get them to spawn faster, but I never got it to work). I finally stopped, took stock of my life and how I was wasting it, and said 'okay, I'm gonna kill exactly one more Larva Eater, and then I am never, ever trying this shit again.' Lo and behold, the very last Eater dropped one.

I cherished the damn thing, giving it to Ashe and building her equipment around maximizing it's potential. There's a chance it might have gotten in the killing blow on Yiazmat, though it's far more likely that Vaan with the Yagyu Darkblade got those honors. That was incidentally the only time I ever got a perfect game - all weapons and items obtained, all secret monsters defeated and minigames completed, Sky Pirate Den filled out. So I made a few backup saves just before the Yiazmat fight and vowed that I'd never again attempt to get the four rare drop-only items on a new game. Which is kind of a shame, since on my last playthrough I got a whopping 3 extra Zodiac Escutcheons from the random chest in Barheim Passage, and those would have been a major feather in my cap on a 'master' playthrough.

The D-pad selection system in Oblivion that was nerfed from Skyrim. Never understood why.

My guess (based on my own play experience) is that the removal of combining effects thru spellcrafting and addition of Shouts meant that eight favorites was no longer sufficient. I routinely have 20+ favorites in Skyrim, and if all of these things weren't favorited (particularly Shouts), I'd never use them. The two-handed / dualcasting system compounds this, since you can no longer cast magic with sword / shield equipped.

A better system is the one that other games have had for years and Fallout 4 eventually adopted, which was cardinal favorites with 3-4 slots per direction. Hopefully something similar gets implemented in ES6; while Skyrim's favorites menu is ultimately necessary for the way the game's structured, it's still quite tedious and needs improvement.

I always cower like a little n00b in the quarry and snipe the deathclaws to pieces. You might have to relocate to get some of the ones that hang out near that cave (which, by the way, has some mini nukes or something hidden around there).

No shame in that. The unique Deathclaws will one-shot you and run at Benny Hill speeds.

And when you go to the Deathclaw Promontory TC, make sure to go back to close to the river landing and save and reload. Your big rewards for the area are found on a pair of pre-dead bodies near the main nest, and there's a bug with that engine where such bodies don't always spawn the first time if you walk to an area (if you find them the first time, great! But if not, try this). And I say 'go to the entrance' because the same issue occasionally applies to enemies; you don't want a deathclaw spawning right on top of you when you reload.

Looks like I'm too late to inb4 people saying Oblivion was a more interesting worldscape when Skyrim is objectively twice as geographically diverse as Cyrodiil. At least no one made the erroneous claim that Oblivion has better dungeons. Can't say I approve of the claim that Oblivion had better combat, either: remember hacking away for a solid minute on your eighteenth Xivilai of the hour because the enemy scaling was atrocious, or how archery became practically useless after the midgame?

Anyway, Oblivion had better guilds and spellmaking, definitely. And aside from the Glitch of Doom was less buggy overall; Skyrim's insidious lack of polish, even by Bethesda standards, is something that still grinds my gears to this day.

Okay, I admittedly don't care that much about this game, but by the time ES6 and FO5 roll around, I sincerely hope that they stop lazily disguising what should be natural damage output progression as 'perks.' 'Take this perk to do 10% more damage with melee weapons' is crap, and chips away at the excitement of getting to choose a perk.
