oh that's a lot more serious than sarcastic.
genuinely believe any remaster is going to prioritize on multiplayer in a major way, add in new modes, and that'll be expanded on heavily.

the only part that's a bit joking is that it'd heavily come at the expense of single player but i'm not sure just how much of that is a joke and how much is serious either since i legit would expect more bugs with modern Bioware/EA.

in before they focus on the multiplayer component and monetize it, making the rest of the game buggier than the original.

honestly the only reason P4G and Vita are so damn connected is because there's nowhere else to play it.
most of the other good Vita games that were at some point exclusive are either ported (Tearaway, VLR) or extremely niche (Dungeon Travelers 2).

still feels like a bandwagon or maybe some sort of RPG rSFF since i don't remember P4G being anything close to this strong in its previous matches.

Anyone who claims to understand the plot of the Xenosaga trilogy is a liar tbh.

so a dude rips off his head to impress some robot loli with a soul or something all so he can then later become like god and shit as he fights his sorta brother, an angel, Mary trapped inside a sexy robot, Mary's stalker, and some other chumps who clearly don't belong here. anyway, robot-Mary with tits and heels ultimately fights against a dark version of herself to fight for the universe because Jesus.

i don't remember exactly how much of that is true but i feel it's close enough.

where did i leave off...

right, we're on the way to getting the 4 orbs remaining. first stop, not puerto rico, clearly Sylvando's hometown. thing is i've been there already so hey, i can 'port and gotta get Jade her new shiny spear. i teleport over, Sylv leaves saying he needs to do something, and we walk around without him. yeah okay, so basically he ran away from home to adventure or something.

i go to the casino, spend half an hour there and get enough in poker to get Jade's new spear. still can't unlock the high rollers table so i make sure i've a few thousand extra for the eventual unlocking of this part of the game, with i assume is gonna have significantly better prizes. there's also a quest with a man asking for a bunny suit and pointing out Jade, i know what you mean man. you're goddamn right i'm gonna make her a bunny girl, the best bunny girl. a bunny girl you wouldn't believe. but i'm gonna do that in a few levels because i lack the focus for 2* items. anyway we go to the big house which is the Don's place and meet with a butler who Rab is familiar with. they talk for a bit and he unlocks the gate, whoo. i can finally travel out into the open seas!

i head to the boat and cutscene. we're all waving the guy, including Sylv, who then realizes who we're waving to and proceeds to hide and cower as the guy goes "hey wait isn't that..." in an obvious twist. uh... so did Sylv get this boat after leaving? so he just happened to be THIS rich, all on his own, without his dad's influence?

well, we're on the open seas now! i start traveling and soon run into a cutscene where there's a ton of fog and the game makes it clear we're in the not-Bermuda Triangle as our boat gets stuck on an island with a small pond. inside there's a girl in water and we meet a mermaid! Veronica meanwhile, kinda bitchy at first but upon the reveal that she's a mermaid goes all soft like someone slapped her into becoming a knight or something. anyway, mermaid's been waiting for some dude for a while in this pool, i'm gonna go on a limb and assume he's either a) 80 years old, or b) dead. probably dead. Veronica's over here hyping her up like she's the hottest thing ever but uhhh, listen you child in a catsuit, have you *looked* at Jade? anyway, mermaid has the powers to make people breath underwater and oh god no this is going to lead to an underwater level, isn't it? not just a level, a city. i'm dreading this already.

so we make a deal: we find the guy for her and in exchange can talk to the queen about the rainbow balls we're looking for. fair, right? sure. they probably have one anyway because honestly if i was going to hide out a magical ball of power why wouldn't it go to the underwater people. at the end of all this our boat is magically freed and we're given a destination! so i do what any reasonable person does in an RPG: explicitly not go there.

there's a random little island? going to that, exploring, beating monsters, and finding 2 chests i can't get through. Veronica meanwhile is bitching at me. that's fine.

i continue going up, through the ice, through these snowy fields and holy shit do these monsters hit like a fucking truck. something tells me i'm not supposed to be here just yet considering i almost wipe once, do have a character die on me (Rab, but Serena revives out of combat), and can't do more than 2 fights without needing to heal. yeah uh... i can level up fighting like 6 times right now, pretty sure that's all casino weaponry doing the job. these cyclops are familiar too, didn't i run into them earlier in the forest when i looked down at them? and now i'm at the level to fight them? cool, that was quick. they take a ton of punishment, it's pretty ridiculous, and their drops are better than what i'm wearing. so yeah, this is ahead. well, moving on, there's a town around here so let's goooo.

cutscene.
it's Serena and Veronica's hometown? boy that's an awkward one.
"Hi mom, I got turned into a loli but don't mind me, I'm doing just fine."

as the cutscene continues it seems i'm quite welcome in this town. which is nice, i guess it's okay if i raid everyone's home and break all their pots to find mini medals, equipment, and random shit that i can use in the next 10 hours. i also decide to go and hit up the shops and goddamn these are good. sure they've got ice element attached but... i mean that really just matters for Erik on his knives and boomerangs. the armors are nice, the weapons are nice, and while it ain't beating casino equips, is pretty solid. so yeah uh, i'm going with a few upgrades for Erik, some armor boosts, and moving on. finally had to sell some items to buy all this stuff.

anyway, we're basically told that we can't actually do anything here right now and need to find the other 4 orbs first, then we can magically go to the floating tree or whatever. okay so this isn't a full sequence break then, this is just being able to warp to the final spot. alright, sounds good. also there were other towns nearby that i could check if i wanted to but... Veronica is quite mad at me. see, i've been talking to all the characters steadily on this side journey for a while and one thing has become painfully clear: Veronica is pissed at me for leaving the mermaid waiting. but i don't really understand it; that fish has been waiting there for who knows how long already, a couple detours ain't doing shit.

in short, get off my ass ya damn loli.
also if your hometown is in fuckoff mountain, surrounded by all these powerful ass monsters, how the hell did you grow up so weak? see my excuse is easy: look at my fucking village. you know what was a major monster over there? a slime. a tree stump. a weak ass shade at night. you know what's a major monster at your place? fucking robots and a goddamn Cyclops. these two girls are raised to be the guardians of the Luminairy, i.e., the huge number 1 hero who is meant to save the world from a global calamity. how the hell did you two grow up to be SO weak in this place? these mountains are in nowhereville! the boss we fought was probably weaker than a typical cyclops here and even if you want to count his shades as mattering - they didn't - it ain't like he fights alone either. you, in your before-town state, could get 2HKO'd by the guy. instead you come in with gear weaker than what your hometown's got, weaker than probably the fucking children who look as old as you do right now, and you got kidnapped by a bunch of dudes weaker than the fucking robot we used to get to your village. the one we NEEDED TO USE to get here. also since i got here by boat i assume you left by boat too. well guess what: the monsters on the water are stronger than the random guys who kidnapped you too! the fuck kind of guardians are these, how'd they fuck that one up?

me: village literally my whole life. zero expectations beyond plot.
Erik: slums, other secret past. minimal expectations, despite being SSB Gogeta.
Sylv: came in pretty decently skilled, not OMG amazing but good enough to explain his position. now that we know where he's from, really no expectations beyond what he's shown us.
Rab: old man kung fu and magic. he's old, okay? but he's with Jade so clearly competent.
Jade: awesome, trained, skilled in combat, powerful in cutscenes, a complete bombshell badass. traveled for years, a clear fighter. high expectations.
Sailor Moon and Chibi Moon: so we're from magic Greenland or something and despite the fact that we should logically be incredibly powerful considering we're magic vikings raised to be your guardians, we actually kind of suck, get kidnapped easy, show up with crappy gear, and are about as worthwhile as the circus boy even though we ought to be worth something closer to the hot chick who kicks.

i want new guardians, these are broken.

no, calling them "the dems" is because it's literally the dems in charge who decided it. of the entire party? no, this is a state issue. "the dems" can mean a number of things but will usually refer to those in charge of a matter which democrats control/have high authority over, which is exactly the case here. the dems here made this call. same thing happens when talking about state republicans too. nobody goes "oh that specific subsection of state republicans in the party," they just go "republicans."

sorry to say there's no game here, but you are free to continue acting dumb.

house 4: am single so can't relate. won't try to loophole.

house 3: so you will eventually get used to the movie as background noise. the biggest issue with it? the lack of a reward afterwards. in 4 you get a ton of money, in 1 you get a ton of money, in 2 i mean you walk out with an impossible fantasy but 3? the hell do you have to show for 3? like if you could keep the mansion tax free with all these stips i'd do it but there's nothing here so really it's useless.

house 2: everything sounds great except for the health issues. if you can't brush your teeth for a month, you will have notable issue with your teeth, same issue may occur with bathing, and medical treatment for both will be necessary. i'm not worried about the lack of light, though i'm totally gonna have some really weird fetishes coming out of this. still, doable.

house 1: high risk high reward.

but we aren't talking about stock prices, we're talking about customers, the people who go there.

B1 typically has more customers but there is a clear, specific time period when they don't. just because B2 manages to do much better in that period does not mean the reality of the other years is removed. redsox's claim here would be "hey, B1 has more customers than B2" and your claim is going "hey, B2 has more customers because of this sale that happened."

nobody will argue that the sale was a huge success and if you want to make it look like B2 had more, you could.
but his claim will still be the actual correct answer.

maybe it's clearer to just remove the organizations.

say you've two competing businesses.

Business 1 (B1) has a certain event that brings in a crapton of people in year X.
Business 2 (B2) has a certain event that brings in a crapton of people in year Y.
B1 does not expect to beat B2 in year Y.
B2 does not expect to beat B1 in year X.

these would be the outliers for their sales.

B1 typically does have mini events occur which manage to get more sales and customers than normal but B2 is still in some way competitive due to better hours/wider selection. however one year, B1 does not have its sale occur. well, when B2 launches their sale they get results so good it not only beats B1 that year but manages to topple everything up to B1's last sale.

this does not mean B2 had more customers in the previous years, B1 did.
it means B2 had something so massive it brought in a ton of new customers in their outlier period.

now this could mean B2 will get a lot more repeat customers but it's not known yet.

and that's something you can justify in the numbers with the same years but datasets spanning years should have the same timeframe. like if you check the data main big games being played by men had nothing to do with the world cup, it was Copa Americana and Gold Cup. the former gave similar numbers as the women in the Olympics in 2016. that's a fair comparison to make: Copa Americana for men's soccer is equivalent to Olympics for women's soccer.

the claim was that men's games draw more views than women and you pulled up data that said women, on average, did pull in more average views from 2015-2019 as opposed to men's 2014 to 2017. that doesn't actually rebuff the claim when you look at the specifics because all those games say is that in 2019 women greatly outdid the men in at least 5 years but the men outdid the women in others. if you look at the years where the two did play games and can have a direct connection between who draws more, you can see men do even in their friendly matches. you could technically correlate this to there being more tournaments out there, though that'd just end up favoring men's viewership as a result in all years that aren't a women's world cup.

Jakyl25 posted...
Is the issue that you were assuming the World Cups were played in the same year?

EDIT: If we took just 2019 numbers, that would be MASSIVELY unfair for the mens team, for example

no, the issue is that men do seem to draw more views when things are equal. the women outdrew on average due to one significant year. if the men had qualified men would've obviously outdrawn them in that year too, and the entire dataset since the world cup's numbers dwarf the women's. just that the women's world cup dwarfs the non-world cup games the men have too.

i mean it would've helped.

but we don't actually have any numbers for the men in that year either. or the year before. the men's chart is 2014-2017, the women's is 2015-2019, with said outlier case being 2019. so we're running off different years, different datasets, and don't include the men's numbers in the women's strongest years. it's not the best apples to apples comparison.

if we look at the specific years they do overlap, men definitely dominate by a lot. too lazy to open excel and put both in but just at a glance it's obviously in the men's favor.

Apparently I have to apply for it myself, but he didn't explain at all what he was talking about, so I don't even know which program that was. It makes me wonder what else I'm not aware of that's out there.

if you go on unemployment, you get an extra check by the federal government of $600. this is not adjusted for new salaries, it's flat bonus and will continue for another 3 months. if you did collect previously there is also a 13 week extension for everyone with the same rules on it.

the catch is whether or not you count for unemployment. if you do, cool. technically there may be a checkbox saying 'hey is coronavirus affecting you here' but at this point everyone is and your summer job would count as that too. i don't know if you're working right now or not so i don't know your specific case but if you're not working, you should absolutely be collecting. it's a genuine salary-level amount.

...honestly by those numbers it generally skews towards the men. the women have a gigantic outlier in the world cup where they absolutely crush men's viewership on anything and raise the average a ton. if you look at all the other numbers, the only other time women are comparable to the men's Cup games - which seems to be like 30% of the male games - is in the olympics. friendly matches skew towards male viewership too, though men have a lot fewer games in this category. network differences play a bigger role than sex on that one: FS1 is slightly male biased, ESPN heavily male biased.

that healthcare argument doesn't work here either for two reasons.

1) i think it was late Feb/early March when insurance providers started covering Corona related issues specifically for free and then in March government stepped in to cover all of it. costs here do not incur.
2) if you've got no employment congrats, you're going on government insurance. the monkey paw version of medicare for all.

just like our federal unemployment checks, this is still not perfect but is a significantly larger safety net than the talking point suggests.

so... the economic side of things is a bit weird.
one time $1200 is nothing, true.

but that doesn't include the $600/week the federal government is giving in additional payment to unemployment. meaning that, should you go on it, you're getting $2400/month in addition to your state's unemployment, which is an additional 300-600 weekly.

not a perfect system since not everyone can go on it and states are backed up weeks on it. but still worth mentioning as a very often forgotten piece.

it's not that hard if you can read a spreadsheet. which, to be fair, most people cannot do.

i mean i agree and would go further since it'll largely depend on what state in the US. Washington managed to handle their shit really well after a scary start: nursing homes. Cali's done well. a lot of states in the middle are doing well. the US manages to have some of the best reaction and some that's more debatable.

it's the optics more than anything else that drives that idea, i think.

you see the president arguing and getting called out by governors, the DPA being argued on its usage, hell, the testing we didn't get at the start. that last one, in hindsight? a good move because it would've been completely worthless. our system of 51 governments doesn't help clear anything up either since they may think it's one strong gov't when really it's just each state doing their shit on their own with big money backup on top, we're not nearly as centralized as other countries are. i'm not sure what the Canadian equivalent to that would be - what if every major region was a unique Quebec is the closest thing i can think of.

"the handling in the US" doesn't tend to ever mean, say, the handling of Wyoming, California, Oklahoma, Vermont, etc - what's really meant is NY, Michigan, and Florida. which is weird since normally you would include Cali or Texas here but not right now. we've also got by far the most reality TV setup with 24/7 news cycles, like the mayor of Las Vegas clip. perfect television right there, makes people think an area is going to be at major risk... until you realize she doesn't even control the parts that matter and has no authority over the state. but she is batshit insane and it's great TV.

basically boils down to "looks really bad at times but not at all that bad."

china literally quarantined some 50 mil when they claimed they had some "100 deaths." pretty sure they'd fit for worst response, especially with all the on the ground reporting we saw at the time.

India's lying to a degree that's probably similar to China (see: Malaria in 2013), though for different reasons. actual numbers aren't going to ever be known on this one either, they've something like 180 mil that are untouchables/lowest caste and those people aren't going to get medical anything, have no clean water, are cramped, and of course none have indoor plumbing so they all shit outside, which becomes a problem when fecal matter is also a known method of transmission... especially since the virus can travel through air and last a while. so we won't know the real numbers because they won't know the real numbers, just that it's heavily undereported.

US definitely knows how to look like the worst but it's also by far the most transparent. hard to know where we fall exactly but a better response than Spain and Italy.

list also needs Russia as a mention just because you already know they're gonna die in droves. it's not a global catastrophe if Russia ain't striving to lead the body count.

You were trying to say they had millions of millions of death and that the thing had a death rate of like 10% or whatever.

the fuck
i said no such thing, what are you talking about? i said literally the contents of that post.

number estimated at the end of march was 15-40x.
don't think there's been any updates since then that helps narrow it down.

i mean nobody is now.
back in january plenty of people did, including the majority of the board. at best you had people saying they were lying by a little, a small multiplier, that 10x+ was way too out there. this would be roughly the time when they said they had 400-600~ deaths and there were reports and estimates citing them into low 5 digits.

no, flatten the curve is the goal to avoid failure.
catching it is not necessarily failure, especially since the reason we're currently adjusting numbers is because you're looking at an R value vastly higher based off asymptomatic cases. that's the point of bringing it up, NYC's on an upwards trend of those from what, 21% right now?

and we are not going to accept South Korea style tracing.
hard no.

at this point it seems clear you aren't going to get a small fraction of anything with the virus. asymptomatic cases are proving to be vastly higher than we thought and we aren't going to get to that level you're asking for. the biggest issue isn't get it down to 0, it's get it down low enough so our medical infrastructure doesn't collapse.

and "flatten the curve" wasn't a narrative, it was the entire reason for tanking everything the way we did.

Ironically I think you're being too pessimistic about our ability to actually actively combat the virus! Some other countries have actually been quite successful in getting this under control, and America should be capable of doing the same.

it depends on the technique.
you keep bringing up tracing but people are going to oppose data collection.
the idea of getting our number down to 0 isn't realistic and wasn't even the main priority. flatten the curve wasn't get all cases to zero, it was make sure our medical facilities aren't overwhelmed, that we're capable of dealing with what's there.

it's also very regional dependent. some places have had <100 cases total. of course those places should re-open. some states are fielding <1000, i don't think we're that concerned with an outbreak in Wyoming. even in something like NY, i'm sure you're mainly looking at NYC, maybe some other cities in the rest of the state like Buffalo, but there's a ton of land that just isn't affected.

i wouldn't say re-opening is necessarily pessimistic as much as it's just looking at the data and deciding some places should be opened up, some places should remain closed, and while the rate is gonna go up, expect it to be something our medical industry can handle.

fucking lmao.
how does china keep doing this and get away with it.

you'd think the UK would've learned last time with the $20 million spent on test kits but no.
that wasn't enough.

ventilators that will fucking kill you is where we're at in "you still haven't learned?"

but i also hope they don't cut actual content. i remember playing in a free month a while back and there was some serious grind.
