i agree.
though some elements are possibly a little ripe for my liking but it's getting closer. take the amendment about warrentless search history - that's the current law. the amendment was to remove that aspect and it came close to failure, with dissent allowed by party leaders. that's a notable shift that suggests a little more pressure could get some internet rights happen sooner than later. as a guy firmly in first and fourth amendments as my top 2, we definitely need this shit defined.

while i don't think that's entirely true i do appreciate that they realize they stepped into a landmine with someone who could actually do something and backtracked for now. earlier in the topic i think people were giving Zuck some shit for being more hands off but honestly, he's got the right approach on that aspect. those two platforms generally trade on good and bad ideas and have overreached a couple times but there's definitely a place for discussion on this because whether it's trump or someone else, there will be regulation imposed on these platforms for their public forum/square status. courts have clearly been going in that direction and i'd expect more internet rights to come up. but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Given how this administration tends to act like organized crime I'm inclined to believe they're "just" trying to grab advertising data from social media/big data for use in their political campaign but there are definitely chilling precedents that could be set here by ordering the collection.

i mean if it's collecting public data they don't even need to make an order for that, they already do that. law enforcement (aka, the executive) does this all the time already, networking a person's contacts through that is also already done by the NSA (two hops rule), so like... it's nothing new?

the whole order is out of place because it's not even a damn order to do anything itself, it's an order to have a lot of other places maybe do something, which would then lead to a lengthy back and forth. it has rhetoric that can raise eyebrows and make headlines but it's not actually doing anything.

...which makes me wonder what we should be paying attention to instead.

nothing's wrong with it? it's a lot of rhetoric.

like all of page 1 and most of 2 is story. then we get into sections:

Section 230(c) gets into the publisher/provider issue. mentioned that earlier as a big issue so that's fine to want to clarify. it's also trying to bind terms of service in a more legal way which makes sense. taken more broadly this would lead to some major changes in some of what's listed - inadequate notice, unreasoned explanation? makes a big question once monetization comes to play since from the language there it's not as easy as going YOINK to your money from twitch subs/youtube superchats/patreon/whatever else.

that section needs a lot of work and clarity to really get to the nitty gritty but as a starting point, seems solid and makes sense. ...it's also not giving out any major orders, it's telling the secretary of commerce to file petition with the FCC so they can propose regulation. so this is not directly impacting anything.

Sec 3 is basically asking for internal data collection by the federal government. i'm rather confused on this. this is not directly impacting anything.

Sec 4 says that twitter and facebook are "functional equivalent of a traditional public forum" (oh hey it's this topic again), points out they're the modern public square according to the supreme court, talks about bias, and then... asks the FTC to consider taking action regarding bias collected in a tool.

...okay. so this is not directly impacting anything.

Sec 5 basically wants attorney generals at the state level to be involved. asks for them to talk and consult about stuff. this is not directly impacting anything.

Sec 6... is the definition we're using. because for some fucking reason this wasn't at the top.

so we've got internal data collection, telling the Commerce Secetary to do something with the FCC, telling the FTC to do something, telling state AG to talk. magnificent.

right now we're in the phase where it's clear there's a variety of factors involved, with race possibly being one of them, by the main cop who did it, the police department, or both. and as more info comes out it's also becoming clear that the whole "resist arrest" line was bullshit too, which further hurts their credibility. like it's entirely possible these are power hungry corrupt cops and race isn't a factor per se, but it can easily get linked to include race as a factor in their committing these acts (e.g., they can get away with this abuse far better in poor black neighborhoods).

i'm the guy who'll look at a 10 car pileup as tragic entertainment. like yeah it's obviously bad but there's a sense of wonder for just how far this is gonna go.

i'm also throwing some shade to this situation and comparing it to last month's protests because protest is protest. if you've got a right to protest here then those people also had a right to protest then. no line can be divided on that. considering there's been at least 3 locations with protests now (Minneapolis, LA, Memphis) this also brings up the issue of making organized protests. if any are on facebook then they should be taken down too, for the exact same reason. i mean they won't but consistency says they should be treated the same way.

and bear in mind i do just mean protest, not rioting. that's just always bad. an autozone didn't do anything, target didn't do anything, grocery stores, liquor stores, etc all did absolutely nothing and it's just fucking up communities that need them. but it does all make for some dumb entertainment to everyone not involved.

for an update, power's lost in that area.
autozone has explosions in it, place has flammable chemicals. which... i mean it's an autozone. of course it does. and the fire is spreading as a result.

that was always the explicit, stated goal. so reality.
that's literally what flatten the curve was, flatten the curve so we don't overwhelm our systems. it was always with direct reference to medical limitations, that was explicitly the entire point.

trying to make the goal something else, or trying to make that mean something else, would be moving the goalpost to something else you want it to be. and to that, reality once again shows up and says people ain't staying home. they're tired of it, weather is good, and those who are mad at the government for some reason will protest. this doesn't mean open up everything, it means phase everything in, which is happening, and expect most places to be open by July.

also the idea of "near universal" usage of mask is funny. especially when everyone who's been out can tell you that there's a good joke for a significant number of mask users. as for contact tracing, old method is fine. new method involving apps is not. hell, there was another on the news caught sending data to facebook and google just a few days ago, to absolutely nobody's surprise. keep the spyware out because that is asking for more pushback than masks.

twitter's logically and legally a private company owning a public space so there's definitely room for government to get involved. that's the case for youtube, facebook, etc too. whether executive or legislature want to get involved is a different story, especially if they start tackling the publisher/platform issues.

Wonderful 101 at least was initially funded by Nintendo. Ori probably doesn't belong there for a similar reason, only it's Microsoft instead.

but Divinity: Original Sin 2 is indie 100% of the way. series owned, created, and released by an independent studio. even used crowdfunding to get off the floor on 1 and 2.

came in to see if the Minneapolis case was mentioned, saw it is. not sure what the defense would be on that one, knee to the back of the neck while pinned to the ground for 5 minutes is something that obviously risks killing someone. a few seconds of that is all it'd take to knock someone out. minutes starts making that look less like manslaughter and more like murder, especially after they're aware he's bleeding from the nose, so i'm not sure what defense can be come up with. no weapons, 4 cops, he's on the ground.

anyway, i've got a new harp with me now so let's see how to do this. by getting it, my map now has the glowy water places on it, nice.

i get on the boat then decide fuck this, Zoom my entire boat over to the closest port city near my plot destination, get to it, and play the harp as my boat goes into a bubble underwater. we can breath! and walk! this isn't a water level, this is a level that happens to be underwater! as i move forward, my glowstick reacts to a nearby orb. second time i've seen that, the other was not Norway. maybe it's not Denmark? whatever. cutscene.

Rab wants to bang every mermaid.
Jade says we should figure out stuff on rumors. well my glowstick told me but i guess i don't tell anyone that it reacted? do i really want to be on this quest at all?

i try to buy some weapons from a shark but sadly i can't because i don't speak shark. oh sure, now you go for realism. as i talk to NPCs they tell me i'm the queen's guest. uh... is she expecting other people? does the harp signal to the queen "hey i need air, help plz" in a way that makes her do it? also why is there a mermaid with glasses underwater? she's an NPC using the science girl trope and all but seriously, she's wearing glasses underwater. not goggle style. just. normal. glasses. there's also books, apparently handwritten ones, so uh... about that shark... i say as i see a guy fishing. yep. moving on.

so my guess is that the queen/NPCs here think i must be Kai or somehow connected to it, making me a guest. walked around the palace, found a mini medal. alright, in we go. cutscene.

...well then. that's not what i expected. queen instantly recognized me, went into a very long poem, gave me the orb, and said we're destined to meet again. apparently she's got eyes and ears everywhere and knows everything that happened, saying it's the will of the world tree. now i don't know if that's true but hey, i'll take it. she also points out how tragedy is always happening between mermaids and humans, saying she's tried to stop that but it always ends in failure or worse. foreshadowing much?

lmao and apparently i can just walk off behind the throne or anywhere on top really. sorry elevator mermaid, your services are not needed. as i leave i spot a quest giver! Gondolia singer boy, got it. and by boy i mean old man because she said it was 50 years ago. 'port out. to not Italy.

wander. wander. wander. old guy? not old enough. this one? no. ...takes a while but i find him. i also see my quest list got a bunch of new entries lit up too. areas i haven't been to yet but are clearly in the next couple underwater destinations. but one in Honolulu too so i warp over, he wants me to go to one of the islands. sounds good... later. lemme get the others unlocked first. i go to the spot that clearly looks like it's a teleporter to another water bubble area and... boom, exactly what it was. nice to know.

tons of new enemies so i start wandering and meet a rarified monster that actually takes quite a bit of effort to beat. fortunately i do twice AND fortunately he drops one of each item too. Serena now is equipped with a Glumbrella. i find a statue and... hm.

alright, forge time. 4 more focus, multi attack, okay. i make some +3 earrings to try it out and am getting the idea that if i puff twice while forging my next attack doubles, which is perfect for some of these techniques. i decide i should just get to town for quest unlocking and for Zoom purposes. once i can teleport to town i can roam freely again. first one i reach is Phnom Nonh.

i'm not sure what this place is supposed to be so i can't do any quips on it yet. but cutscene hits, apparently it's to go into ruins and stuff, sure i'll do that... later. first thing first: quest giver spotted. quest to beat the monster i already was. apparently they only come out when it's raining? lucky me then, got a super lucky break on getting the items AND this. i go back out, hunt one, done, quest complete.

this town also has 21 treasures.

but first thing first: new sea exploration.
i Zoom over to not Norway/Finland and get to the sea because that's the closest spot to this extra water teleporter. yeah, you didn't think i was forgetting about this thing did ya?

it doesn't help that the vanilla game is always worse. Civ 5 vanilla was inferior to Civ 4 but after BNW was better. Civ 5 is better than Civ 6 vanilla but i don't know how it is with the expansions yet, especially as it's getting yet another bunch of DLC. i'm sure by the time it's done Civ 6 will be better too, if not already there.

pretty sure trump is mentioning churches specifically because of the church that burned down with it believed to be arson by people who wanted it to be closed.
churches were deemed essential in that state so it doesn't entirely make sense but if places are still trying to say churches aren't essential right now they're running head first into a first amendment issue they're likely to lose.

To me, the Vita was the de facto "handheld version" machine before the Switch, and while it outright couldn't handle a number of games that I would've wanted on the go, it is also smaller than a Switch.

Vita TV, with the Wii U, are the absolute best gaming set top boxes out there today for hacked devices.
depends on what you're after technically there. if it's Sony, Vita's got you. if it's Nintendo, Wii U's got you.

no idea what that's at but looks to be around 50. and that's not including any hacking either, that's all localized. if we do include that the PSP will then have upgraded ports for Makai Kingdom, La Pucelle, Valkyria Chronicles 3, Super Robot Wars A, and more VNs. a slew of extra things to say at the end since technically this list is incomplete too as:

1) not a GTA fan
2) God of War sucks. in fact, all major first party games kinda sucked here, R&C, Jak and Daxter, i admittedly ignored Little Big Planet PSP and never was fond of it anyway.
3) never play Monster Hunter on the PSP. it's bad for you.
4) Persona 1 sucks. it's the definitive version but holy hell does it suck.
5) i wish Summon Night 5 was better. instead i didn't even care when 6 came out.
6) on Metal Gear: never did play the Acid games or Portable Ops.
7) i have no idea what the quality of the The Legend of Heroes of games on the PSP are. it's mainly the trilogy before Trails in the Sky (1 came out there too but . supposedly they're good but i don't know if the translation was up to par or what fan patches may exist for it.

there's a few genres PSP does better. dungeon crawler are the clearest, with strangely a fanservicey as fuck game being among the best, Dungeon Travelers 2. but everyone knows Demon Gaze more so whatever. Vita's also superior on Monster Hunter despite not having a proper MH due to controls that make sense. fortunately they're also on the consoles and later PC and that's good because it's hard to go back to 'em as framerate is a thing. also while technically it's got a number of ports to it, the quality here was nice. Can't agree at all, and this is coming from someone who owns over 50 PSP games.

PSP actually has some 50+ games worth to it, a good chunk being exclusive either at the time or still are.
Vita's exclusives worth a damn you can count on your fingers, leaving you with a lot of ports and multiplat games. it's better on this front but still ends up dropping off real quick before you're even halfway there compared to the PSP, which did have quite a few ports itself.

of course, once you do start hacking the Vita it shines way more, largely because you end up getting PS1, Vita, and PSP games. if it's on the OLED model (1st version) you get some incredible visual pop out of it. not as much from the LCD but still fine.
