Maria's fine, but when she shows up, she steals all the cutscenes time in a "LOOK AT ME I AM SUPER IMPORTANT" kind of bitchfest way until they get her story told. After that, she is less insufferable, cause they go back to focusing on the whole party.

I get wanting to introduce characters, but holy crap.

Also, I'm not going to sit here and say Tales is anything magical either. Their visuals and animation were pretty lackluster until Arise said "We got this". Kinda Ys or Trails level "generation behind the curve" like most non FF stuff.

Beseria just had Velvet kick you in the face over and over and then forcefeed you your ass and ask for seconds. Star Ocean never had a character that good...they had "Edge Maverick"

I liked the game less for it's gameplay and more for the stuff tucked away in the margins.

The music was pretty good (back when Sakuraba actually seemed to care). The invention and inventor system was nice...save for the Persona Fusion skill grab BS random money shit.

SO3 was like Breath of Fire 3. Good at a lot of things, but no one is saying it is JRPG royalty.

But the plot twist ruined every shred of "it's fine" and then you notice the holes it had and stop forgiving it.

I only played 4 for like an hour, kay? I'm normally good with dubs, kay? But there's one character in particular that really sucks, kay?

And well...Welch in 4 made me quit too. So, it's not just the "kay" girl...but it's mostly the kay girl...

They really should know better. SO3, plot twist aside, had good enough voice acting. You'd think they'd know how to direct them better. My guess is SO4 has way more issues than dub direction, but it doesn't help. When you make Matt Mercer and Laura Bailey led games sound stupid...you fucked up. I also remember some late game cutscene plot twist being memorable for all the wrong reasons. I mean, not SO3 levels franchise breaking, but it was laughable. DIdn't get to it obviously, but I remember someone posting it somewhere. It was something like a planet blowing up or something and they stare at it on the bridge and they just mope and cry for a minute or two after some realization they caused it...or something. Shows you how much I remember about the scene in question....

The worst thing I can say about SO5 is they didn't have any production value and made a climactic scene a forced Star Trek bridge sequence...and reusing SO3 music at points like it was Dragon Quest or something. But SO5 was "fine."

My main problem is not only is the reveal itself anti climactic, (because dorky kid in a random town, the final boss is computer programmer dork. YOU:RE JUST DATA!? Like come on.

Star Ocean 3 was basically cliche but fine enough, but then the plot twist from hell happened. Since then, they've occupied that, "Isn't that cute, BUT IT"S WRONG!" meme from 2 Stupid Dogs.

Um...how do I want to rate this?

I can't rate this without that weird scene in the Kotoko arc where Komaruis strapped to a tickling machine until she is forced to cum in a game over scene. I uh...wow.

Everything else about the game is a blur because it's just more DR, done worse.

I picked way too much shit I had to start poking through the list somehow. The problem with "just pick anything with a dub" means I now have like 500 options....gotta cut shit down.

Why all 500-600 shows? Bored. 3-4 subscriptions can't just sit there. I also need potential podcast fodder for YouTube. Even absolute dog shit can be strung into content somehow.

I tried a few different new shows. Angels of Death had an interesting idea, but seemed kinda...chinzy in its presentation of the horror schtick. Arifureta was just another isekai looking thing. I settled on Angel Burst. Still kinda crap, but in that easily digestible comedy kind of way. I'll give it a couple more episodes before I commit though. To be fair, neither of the three shows are "I have to watch this and keep watching." Angel Burst just seemed like, "It's stupid inoffensive trash that could be fun." kind of way.

Goblin Slayer lightened up a "smidge" once new characters showed up. I thought I would be bothered by how boldfaced and gameified the D&D dialogue banter is, but I don't think it goes overboard. They get back to "hey they are actual people again" rather quickly.

I mean...not much, but enough. The brutal goblin killing murderhobo fest is enough of a hook to overlook it all.

But seriously. This is a walking D&D infotainment commercial except if goblins were r****** and it featured Mandalorian. Could be way way worse.

I looked up IMDB to see who it was that did Lymle. I couldn't recognize the actress from anything meaningful and say, "it was the script's fault." Because it can always be a little bit of both. Direction, scripting, and overall skill. But I mean, I didn't even like Laura Bailey being Welch, so that game was just a bomb waiting to happen. If you miscast or misus Laura Bailey somehow, you know you fucked up pretty badly.
