fun game until I realized the optimal strategy for 90% of stages is rushing the goal with a Scout

ironically the speedrun makes more use of non-scouts than i'd thought despite how overwhelmingly good they are, because of grenade economy. pretty neat run to watch, RPG limit break did it two months ago in around two hours

absolutely immaculate vibes, FFT/12 music strangely fit, and an innovative approach to combat. but the battle placing could feel extremely slow at times. remember that big tank in the desert you just kinda sat around waiting for?

disgaea games often have a lot of interwoven gimmicks that can all independently make you stronger

dominions games offer an absurd level of customization to your armies' tactics- it's the kind of game that was designed around the play-by-email mindset where taking one turn a week wouldn't be unheard of for high level optimized play. sure it mostly all comes down to macro 4x play and micro army logic, but the number of mechanics involved in those two is crazy. and every nation plays completely differently! one nation might build sword-and-board frontline supported by archers, the next might be a nation with a bunch of frost giants, and the next one gets freespawn the more dead there are with a spell that rapidly ages the entire world

I think what most people consider a "win" in CK2 is picking a nation and forming it, the most straightforward yet engaging enough of which would be Ireland (it's literally tutorial island in 3). my personal goal was usually to spread zoroastrianism enough to where it could spread organically without being stamped out immediately
