It's different when the cuts are like 75 people in 3 months versus 5-10 once a year. Sure, the words are the same, but the timing and tone feel way different than "standard business practice." Also, Punk said this to Vince himself. Liv said it to Becky...who has no stake in that sort of thing.

Finally woke up from Full Gear. I have to say, I feel bad not giving AEW more of a chance until now. While it is not perfect, the feeling and aura of AEW is one I'd forgotten due to WWE's sterility. Many of the matches were overlong, yes, but the sheer insanity present in a lot of the matches (Lucha Bros, seriously what the fuck was that move?), but you could feel that tangible "oomph" from everything they did. The crowd responded too. It was so weird being in a crowd that respected and cheered nearly everything. I knew about Cody being booed on TV. Knowing he's the reason I even went to the show, I mean...I didn't. But the story made sense. WWE overuses the "tag teams can't get along." It worked great for the match.

Danielson and Miro looked like completely different people in the ring. Danielson doing that armtrapped curbstomp is vicious. MJF and Darby told an amazing story. That tombstone on the apron was...Darby...just fucking why?

But of course, Punk/Kingston and Page/Omega were just great. The crowd was rabid and didn't let up at all during Punk and Kingston. It was a 60-40 Kingston split, because there was this organic love for Kingston when he was on offense. Of course, being in a sea of singing during Cult of Personality FUCKING HELPS too. God what a moment. It doesn't sound like Page/Omega came across as the best match on TV, but in the arena, they worked their asses off, and the fans were really into Page and his victory. The montage of all the Minneapolis ephemera for his entrance helped too. Omega did way less of his pointy/runny bullshit (I think), and it felt like a proper intense match between two guys who wanted to steal the show.

If I get a chance to re-watch some of the matches back, I will. All I know is Full Gear (and everything surrounding it) got me hooked. Cody, QT, and all the other wrestlers and staff were super nice (and helped GNC's bottom line all weekend), they helped get me back to enjoying wrestling again, and made for a crazy time I thought wasn't a thing anymore.

Cody just came to my store!

I was putting around on an extra shift at work. My boss is getting ready to leave, but I notice the hair and tattoo and start freaking inside. I talked to his aide a little bit about some stuff as the name "C Runnels" pops up on the docket.

So it takes a bit to get rang up, but Cody sneaks in some jabs about Ted Jr. And they talked about the PPV on Saturday. They said they'd put some tickets on hold, but who knows. Either way, I am definitely going to the PPV now.

I could swear someone who could have been Tully also stopped in, but...let's just say that transaction kept having stuff go wrong.

Very quick action based combat. Easy to do attack combos and chaining stuff with party members. Status effects can make or break certain enemy types (charm/confusion/paralysis specifically wreck face)

The only real issue is mage AI is lackluster. They will spam their SP in short order if you aren't careful and set them to slow down.

Still, it is very easy to get into.

Zelda's never been a story based game though. Maybe the later ones, but it's puzzles > combat/item management > story to me.

So I can understand the franchise being lackluster in this specific case.

Finally sat down to watch Season 2 (what Funi's app calls 3) of PSYCHO-PASS. More criminology professor is nice, but the main villains are kinda weak and the "show don't tell" approach doesn't work. Too much gore and shock value, not enough buildup to make it mean something.

Shimotsuki being a passive aggressive bitch and not ever confronting Tsunemori about their different logic is wasted too.

Oh well. Can't all be winners. Was warned it was not as good and just had to be dumb and watch it.

I'd been doing Youtube and Twitch for a few years, but felt there was something missing or off about how I was approaching games on the platforms. When you're playing games or focusing on talking with chat, it's kinda hard to put various thoughts about the game into words without it either sounding either like quick praise or instantly going to "this game sucks because this character or whatever." I wanted to find a way to slow myself down and talk through RPGs in a sort of "pseudo-review" sort of way. I still work a hefty schedule, so I chose a podcasting format to see if that would be effective.

I think my goal was to act as if no one had ever played FF (or any game in question before), but not either be a complete info dump nor praise or knock a game too harshly. I'm curious if anyone would be interested in this sort of thing. I have a lot more RPGs lined up as a "bi-weekly" sort of add on to the stuff I'm already doing.

I obviously wanna do more intensive stuff like Chrono Trigger, FF6-10, Persona, and even non-RPGs like Mario and Zelda one day. But I started small to get my feet wet. I'm curious if anyone like it.

I was able to cut the first episode down to 30 minutes after initially getting it down to 50 in my first attempt. Might make a more focused/quick listen.

I loved it as a kid, but after Midgar, the breadcrumbs of Sephiroth are "hit and miss." Sephiroth himself is a valuable goal. The "mysterious force of nature" villain that is spoken of in legend. It gives Cloud and others a reason to travel Disc 1 (the best part of the game other than Midgar). A lot of characters get fleshed out at appropriate paces. Cloud's judgment comes into question.

And yes, the end of Disc 1 is iconic.

But the more I replay it, the more the writting staff's failures come to play. They had an issue with keeping Disc 2 and Disc 3 in the PSX era going strong. They built up so much steam, but bogged down VII, VIII, and IX with a lot of pseudo-science that masks, "We had an idea for a character, so here's some bullshit science to explain it."

It sounds good in theory, but how they handled Cloud was an excuse in stupidity. It isn't helped that back then, they didn't have the ability they do now with remake to make a "show don't tell" traumatic experience carry itself. They spend SEVERAL unskippable cutscenes going over Cloud's backstory, and instead of saying, "It's PTSD," it just comes off as a really stupid science mess to tie into Hojo's bullshit. *Don't get me started on Parasite Eve and MITOCHONDRIA MAKES ZOMBIES!" They spent five years in that sciency dumpster fire. FFX got them out of it by going full fantasy again.

The rest of the game follows the typical save the world stuff, and the ending just...dies.

I wanna like this game. It got me into FF and JRPGs as a whole. The each replay really drives home how an idea can be bogged down with stupid execution. FF as a whole loves to do some weird ass science/sci-fi/fantasy shenanigans. It really sucks it had to come at the cost of Midgar and Disc 1 really giving me something to sink my teeth into.

I got the "allure" of this game. It's weird, it's off the wall, and it's got that EVA style wacky "religious but not really" stench that pervades all Xeno games. Coming off of Xenosaga, playing this felt like a, "That's it?" It had characters and motivations I didn't understand, Elly/Miang, Id/Fei, and well...Krelian's whole plan is ripped straight from the sci-fi bin, and with no subtlety.

Much like FFXII, this is one of those popular games I just don't "understand." I would try again, but then I'd remember trying to do Kislev Sewers, Tower of Babel, or the final dungeon again, get lost, and fight fifty random encounters over and over before remembering, "Oh yeah, this game has a story. I remember it somewhere, but the gameplay is shit."

The characters aren't as memorable (save one or two that stand out). Kokichi alone makes this cast almost insufferable in the same way Nagito (almost) did. I've seen worse endings, and actually side on the developer if they did it as a "Fuck off, we're done here." sort of thing. There's only so much you can do with this setup that is Phoenix Wright but way more murderhobo comedy escape room. I can appreciate the dev saying, "We want this over and done with. Let's make it literally impossible to do so."

Besides, after V2, you seriously think anything was off the table by that point? They went apeshit long before this. V2's ending let the cat out of the bag. V3 just fucking shot it.
