Did any of you hear her reasons for not wearing a mask? They're pretty great. In 2015, she had an ovarian cyst, so that's totally hampered by a mask. Plus, she gets acne from the mask! And, most importantly, she got a hand written note from a chiropractor! They're totally real doctors that can diagnose and treat you!

It's there in Odyssey/Origins, but just barely.

Black Flag is my favorite classic AC, but the modern sections are some of the worst. At least 1-3 had a story I actually somewhat cared about.

Fell Seal for FFT.

XCOM 2 is on there now, and I think it's the complete edition. With all of the expansions, it's easily the best turn based strategy game of the past several years for me. There's I think 8 total classes, and they're all pretty unique. The faction classes from the last expansion are all really fun.

I like it more than the last gen for sure. Sun/Moon felt like an exercise in walking 20 feet, battling two or three dudes with one Pokemon each, and then having characters talk to you for 10 minutes.

Sword/Shield definitely aren't great, though. I felt pretty restricted on cool Pokemon I actually wanted to use while keeping a balanced team. Plus, at higher levels that big area with the giant Pokemon battles got a big difficulty spike and it became really hard to catch em.

For that matter, I hate the mega/z-move/giant bs they've been adding to every game. It ruins the single player (I don't play multiplayer). The gameplay is already basic enough, don't make it easier by giving me one hit kill strategies in what's supposed to be boss fights.

I lived near Cambridge for a few years in my early 20s, and my impression of British food was that it was mostly a lot of brown meh. I was fortunate enough to live in a tiny village (just two streets), though, and the local pub owners really liked me. On Fridays, the wife that did all the cooking would ditch the typical pub fare and do a random special and she would take suggestions from me a lot of the time since I had lived in quite a few countries by that point. She was a damn good cook, too.

I watched Giant recently for a course I was taking. It has James Dean and Rock Hudson in it, and it's really interesting seeing the old Hollywood, almost stage acting of Hudson compared to the new Hollywood acting of Dean that so many stars of the 60s and 70s took and refined.

The movie's really good, with a lot of morally grey characters that evolve throughout. Definitely recommend, as it's the last of Dean's three credited roles and it's pretty emblematic of Hollywood switching over from their Golden Age.

Ashley felt like someone you were supposed to dislike, a shitty person that happened to be on your side. Yeah people don't like it her, but I don't think it's because she's a bad character.

I don't really know any universally agreed upon bad characters that I like now that you mention it. Horizon Zero Dawn fans seem to hate Aloy a lot, but that feels pretty contentious and I don't really think the fans that hate her have any good reasons to do so.

Edit: it kind of feels like most modern characters that get a lot of hate are women...

codey
06/26/20 12:12:27 AM

As said, one of the big themes is literally how the world is changing to become more violent and men like Tommy Lee Jones don't have a place because they don't understand it anymore. One of the big reasons in the movie is hinted to be Vietnam. Javier Bardem, Brolin, and Harrelsons characters all fought in the conflict and it can be inferred that's one of the things that brought them to this point. It's heavily implied that Brolin's experience there is what allows him to hang with the boogeyman that is Bardems character while everyone else just gets run over him like a train.

Then, at the end, Brolin gets killed by cartel thugs. It doesn't make sense narratively, because he's supposed to have a showdown like in any other movie. This is to drive home the point that the violence is random and there's no making sense of it, confusing the audience just like Tommy Lee Jones is by the violence.
