Sony is a blight on gaming.
They act like they are entitled to have every game on their platform and cry foul when they are at risk of losing a game yet they actively strongarm and moneyhat developers and publishers to keep their games off of other platforms.

I dont know. Excusing the fact that a 10 year deal is actually not great for the long term, I have a hard time believing someone who stands to get a significant payout if the merger goes through is being completely unbiased.

Microsoft would lose more money then they would gain. Even if it was on the Xbox game pass. It would be dumb not to sell it on a Sony console. They have plenty of other exclusives.

People who say this really undervalue how many people buy a console just to play CoD. If they have only one option a lot of people will default to Xbox.

But not the point I was making. The person making this tweet stands to get a huge payout if the acquisition goes through

Exactly.

I own an Xbox one, but I will not trust Microsoft.

This merger shouldn't happen at all, it's not a good idea. Putting CoD on gamepass is a stupid idea simply because there's already enough kids and teenagers who play and spew some of the worst shit there is more than adults do.

Don't need more kids and teenagers getting more or less free access to a game to ruin it for those who don't want to listen to some kid start swearing in the lobby.

To say this the deal is anti-consumer is to say Activision is pro-consumer which is the furthest thing from the truth. This is the most anti-consumer company in existence. If anything Microsoft taking over will only make things better for all consumers even Playstation owners.

There is nothing pro consumer about the second biggest gaming company, fresh off its massive purchase of Zenimax, buying the fifth biggest gaming company. Nothing

huge companies consolidating is always bad for the consumer

We saw this isn't true from the recent rise and fall of streaming services. And the current (and hopefully continued) success of GamePass.

Except its a doomed if you do, doomed if you don't situation. I get not wanting Activision Blizzard to be bought out, but at the same time, the company is being ruined by Bobby Kotick, and the only way to get him out is for the merger to go through.

He's the reason all the problems are happening with Blizzard right now. He's actively stopped content from being released even though it was completely finished, he's caused issues within the company and pretty much forced people to leave to work elsewhere. It's a telling sign when nearly all the team leads leave to form their own companies. Blizzard had problems prior to the original merger, but never to this degree.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Hate it or love it, Call of Duty games consistently sell well. So it's a huge loss if Sony stops getting a piece of that pie. If you look at the highest selling games of all time, there are 8 CoD games in the top 50.

https://gamertweak.com/most-played-popular-games/

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Microsoft has been attempting to acquire Activision Blizzard since early 2022. But Anti-Trust laws (prevents monopolies) have been slowing down the acquisition. They subpoena'd Sony's records to show that the merger won't give them a monopoly, but Sony has been resisting. Experts are saying the deal should go through soon at the rate it's going.

I mean, I get people will turn in their PlayStations for Call of duty. I just don't think it is gonna be more then how much Microsoft would make just keeping it multiplatform. They want to get the money back from buying Activision sooner then later and the "transfer" cost of making Call of Duty exclusive just isn't worth the cost of Activision. Business wise it makes more sense to keep something as big as call of duty multiplatform.

Because anyone they shift from PS will likely no longer buy a PS, some will but many casuals wont.

So not only do Sony lose out on CoD, but all revenue from the console sale and any cut they would get of games purchased. Which is money they use to focus making their own exclusives like God of War. So games like that will lose budget as well.

Microsoft may lose money not putting it on PS but they have significant income coming from other aspects of their business. like Gamepass, there is no way that could be even remotely profitable. Their aim here is to drive PS out of business.

its crazy to me that anyone would ever be supportive of this deal

Rare released multiple games on Nintendo hardware after Microsoft bought them.
Skyrim is still getting rereleases on non-Microsoft hardware.
Microsoft kept the Vita alive after Sony had dropped support by releasing Minecraft on it.

Sony bribes developers to not put their games on Microsoft hardware.
Sony got a history of demanding the IP rights if they are going to publish a game.

How is Sony the good guy?
