I've been seeing a lot about Stewart lately, & the problem is that calling him Alt-right is more deserving for Bill Maher. Jon is just an actual old school liberal, but he slips into the same faux pas a lot of liberals (one of them being Humble Novice on here) does.

If you're any more left leaning than a centrist, he's still an ally against dangerous right wing rhetoric & people need to keep that in mind. Now, I will watch this video & see if my opinion changes or not:

The gist is people on the right so often want to paint themselves as "real Americans", as true patriots who believe in the Constitution but then they support a man who openly attacks the rights of people he doesn't like and says he wants to be a dictator. If what you want is a king or a dictator then, no, you don't actually believe in the Constitution.

I mean when you title a segment "what are we doing??" And have half your rant be about Biden being old while the other guy is trying to establish a dictatorship... You can probably do better than that. The "both sides suck" argument is incredibly lazy and easy engagement and simple people lap it up because they feel unbiased.

He seems to be rectifying this a bit now that Joe is showing he has some life in him and Trump is still being Trump, so I'm glad for that

Even Elon Musk was praising him going "Finally someone honestly going after both sides!"

His entire episode was attacking Biden for being old and then going "Well I guess Trump is old and a bit silly too" now and then while ignoring overly horrific stuff Trump was actively saying and doing. Such as he will be a dictator, he is above the law, supporting book burning, being held liable for rape, using Republican funds to pay his legal bills etc.

Basically a lot of the stuff he brought up in this video. He hasn't been saying that while he's been ignoring it and attacking Biden for the most petty bullshit. It was pretty bad.

That is "both sides"ing. When you aggressively ignore the worst qualities about one person, over exaggerate the worst about the other and then present them as the same when one is objectively worse than the other on every level.

He absolutely called out Trump for being worse but the episode wasn't about Trump so of course he didn't spend all his time talking about Trump.

I swear, a lot of people wouldn't have been happy with the episode unless it was only about Trump. If you say anything negative about the democrats there's a segment of the population who loses their fucking minds and thinks you must be a chud. Like holy shit, the primaries are the time to be the most critical of representatives.

It wasn't a both sides argument though. The point was that better can be expected from Biden and the democrats even though Trump is obviously worse. That the difference is that people can criticize Biden instead of blindly following like what conservatives do for Trump. When democrats are saying that Biden is a great leader behind the scenes but aren't showing that to the public then that's going to be a problem that just benefits Trump and isn't giving his party and campaign a lot to work with. That problem doesn't just exist because Stewart is pointing it out.

Which yes is better now that Biden did get out there and actually showed some passion since that segment.

The entire ending summary of that bit is that not everything is riding on this election and then it's a permanent victory. This is a constant fight that requires people to be continually invested.

I don't think the people who watch the Daily Show are fence sitters who aren't aware of Stewart's opinion and history with Trump and Republicans.

The segment was specifically focused on the candidates being old. It wasn't supposed to be an entire summary of Trump vs Biden. We are now getting other segments focused on the stupidity of Republicans and Trump.

I will caveat what I'm saying with one other thought - if the idea from the beginning of leaning hard into the "both sides" strategy on episode one was to lure in the empty headed "centrists" like Elon Musk, and then hit them with this segment, that's pretty brilliant strategy.

Someone like modern Colbert will never be able to pull something like that off.

Do you think the people who watch the Daily Show clip are unaware of what Trump has done or said unless Jon Stewart makes a video about it. Stewart didn't say anything about Biden's response to Gaza in the clip either. He did that a couple of weeks ago.

Why does he need to mention it? Do you think that the people tuning into watching The Daily Show are unaware of what Jon Stewart's opinion is on Trump? Why does he have to treat the people that watch his show as if they need a spoonful of "but Trump bad" every 60 seconds to make sure they understand that he doesn't like Donald Trump.
