Let's start by talking about my characters throughout the campaigns.

In campaign 1, I played Varra De Luca. Varra was the youngest child of an affluent family in Gotham who made their money doing business with Oswald Cobblepot. Varra grew up without having any responsibilities or expectations and grew up quite spoiled. In her teenage years, she was looking through books in her families library and found a book of spells. She started reading it and to her surprise, she was able to cast a spell from one (and only one) of the pages! She was able to create force fields, although they had a kind of icy sheen to them.

As she got older, she spent a lot of time in the nightlife around Gotham where she met two characters that had a impact on her life. The first, Jason Blood, who took Varra under his wing and taught her about magic. Even together, she was never able to do anything more than create force fields, but she still leaned a lot in her time apprenticing with Jason. The second, Count Vertigo. Varra fell for this bad boy and the two had a brief but intense relationship. Varra cut things off quite suddenly when she found out that she was pregnant. She couldn't justify exposing her child to Vertigo's lifestyle and ended things with him without telling him that she was pregnant. Shortly after, she gave birth to her son, Brennus De Luca.

When Brennus was a baby, he got sick. Her family brought in the best doctors money could buy and Jason tackled things from a mythical angle, but they couldn't determine what was wrong with Brennus. That's when she was approached by a memeber of the League of Assassins. They told Varra that they could cure Brennus... as long as Varra joined their organization. Varra wasn't sure how they found out about this situation or why they wanted her, but it didn't matter. They could save her son. She quickly agreed. Looking back, Varra can't help but wonder if they were the ones who got Brennus sick in the first place...

Years passed and Brennus grew. Varra often had to leave Gotham and the country to fulfill her business with the League. Brennus spent a lot of time being raised by Varra's grandmother. Varra spent as much time as she could with the boy and Brennus was always happy to see her, but resentment begin to grow that his mother kept having to leave for business. Brennus obviously didn't understand what Varra's business was, and Varra's bodycount for the League continued to grow. Brennus was provided for, but seeing the League's actions in Gotham and the risk Brennus was put in began to weigh on her and started making her reconsider her actions.

When an earthquake hit Gotham and the city became a No Man's Land, Varra wasn't in the city, although Brennus and her grandmother were. She reached out to Oswald Cobblepot and made a deal with him to get her family out of the city. The Penguin agreed, but in exchanged asked that Varra return to Gotham. Oswald had a group of employees in the city who recently lost one of their own and he thought it was the perfect opportunity to add Varra to their group. Varra stole a League submarine, delivering it to Penguin, which he then used to sneak her family out before introducing her to Fields, Artemis and Riev, where she joined their group.

(For you see, I was not an original player in Campaign 1. I joined a few months in.)

Throughout her time in No Man's Land, a lot happened. She had a brief flirtation with Fields before she found Count Vertigo in the city and the two of them rekindled their romance. She told Vertigo about Brennus and while he was angry, over time he forgave her and she promised that once they left Gotham, she would introduce them. Whisper A'Daire kidnapped Brennus and killed Varra's grandmother, telling Varra that she had to assist her in turning Fields and Rosetta over to the League if she wanted Brennus to survive. Varra acted as if she was playing along, confiding only in Vertigo to what was really happening and causing Fields and Rosetta to think she was actually betraying them. At the last moment, we found out that Vertigo contacted Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad was sent into Gotham to save the day. Brennus was rescued and was cared for by Amanda Waller herself while Varra was dealing with things in Gotham. Varra became friends with Hal Jordan, who was the host of the Spectre at the time. Varra had another flirtation with Captain Cold, although her and Vertigo were together and this point and things never went further than that. Varra continuously asked Ragman for help and it almost always ended poorly for Ragman. Varra found out loads of information about the leadership of the League, that Ra's was dead and that his daughter were fighting for control of the League. And so much more.

Towards the end of the campaign, Varra decided that it was better to deal with the devil you know than one you don't, and she took part in a ritual to ressurect Ra's al Ghul so that he could take control back of the League. He offered to make her one of his Deadly Hands, a great honor and high position within the League. Varra struggled with this - she was close to being out of the League, but if she accepted would she be able to make changes on the inside and change the course of the League? And if she declined, would she be able to walk away or would she be forfeiting her life?

In the end, she chose her family. After restoring Gotham, she worked with Oracle to faked her death, blowing up the submarine and claiming that she was on it along with Brennus and Vertigo. Instead, the three of them left the country, using their resources to stay hidden and raise Brennus in secret.

Years passed. The family continued moving around to different countries, staying hidden from the League. Brennus was confused when he first met Vertigo, since Varra told him that his father had died before he was born, but the two of them quickly bonded, Brennus was quite taken by the idea that he was actually a Prince, and Varra's lies caused more tension with her son. Brennus, having no powers of his own, trained as a martial artist. His first teacher was Black Canary and from there he continued his training on his own.

Eventually, the family was in Germany and in the Black Forest he came across a roil of wild magic. Being young and impulsive, Brennus reached out and touched it - it engulfed him and Varra berated him for being so careless. This caused the two of them to fight - Varra dabbled in magic, Varra had great adventues, Varra had a rebellious life and she was denying him all of this. He stormed off and shortly after found himself shot with a dart. He began to blackout, seeing Checkmate agents approaching him.

And then... campagin two began. Brennus awoke and was taken to Z'onn Z'orr where he was reunited with Amanda Waller, now the Black Queen of Checkmate. The world was being taken over by Darkseid and Waller was leading the last resistance. Brennus quickly joined, thrilled at the opportunity to have his own adventure. He discovered that the wild magic he found gave him the ability to cast magic! And he has been having his own adventures since then that include...

Well, let's not spoil the rankings, shall we?

#52: Scrappy

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/0/6/AAcguBAADkvK.png

Full disclosure? I struggled with if I should include Scrappy or not. He's a joke character. I'm fairly confident he's not even a DC character. There are a lot of great characters that didn't make my list. But dammit, it's my list and I'm going to do what I want.

Brennus was not on the mission to Opal City, but when that group returned, they brought with them a pirate ship crewed by ghosts. Jon Valor leads the crew, but the most intigral member of the crew, in Brennus' opinion anyway, is Scrappy. Scrappy navigates the ship. Scrappy is also deaf, blind and mute. But this doesn't discourage Brennus from their friendship. Whenever the group has to go out on Valor's ship, Brennus is up in the helm with Scrappy, talking to him. He isn't discouraged that Scrappy doesn't respond. Their friendship transcends words. One time, Scrappy came to debriefing with Valor which lead to this moment:

Scar: Jon Valor motions you to take his seat, next to Scrappy.
Brennus waves to Scrappy
Scar: Scrappy rudely dismisses you without even acknowledging your presence.
Scar: Or he's deaf and blind, tough to judge.

My list is characters that make me happy. And I always walk away from Scrappy happy. This wouldn't be Brennus' list without him.

Hint for #51: We met this character in Tokyo.

Scrappy is definitely original, and not just that, but fully improvised on the spot, which is easy, because he cannot talk, or really do much of anything - especially since he also has two hook hands and two peg legs.

This MIGHT be Sonny Sumo, but I'm going with Shado.

Honorable Mention: Helios

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/3/3/AAcguBAADkvl.png

I created my list about a month ago. Since then, a character I did not have on my list made their way onto it, which bumped poor Helios from #52 to unranked. But I still want to talk about him.

How do spells work in Scarlet's campaign? Saoirse and I each got to create a signature spell - a spell that we can cast as many times as we want. Other than that, we have to find wild magic out in the world. Most (but not all) locations seem to have at least a spell in them. Sometimes, Brennus and Saoirse drag the party out of the way to find the magic that the can sense. Sometimes, this leads them to discovering things other than spells. Sometimes, it places the party in danger.

This was the third spell Brennus learned in the campaign:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/771447954652921897/786829643130470420/Turtle_Recall.png

It was early enough in the campaign that I wasn't exactly sure how to feel about this spell when I got it. Was it good? What am I going to do with these turtles? They have health, am I supposed to just let my turtles die? That seemed cruel!

And now, 83 weeks into the campaign, I would say this is one of my most utilized spells. I don't (often) use them in combat. But they make for a great distraction. A guard heard us and is coming to investigate? Send out two turtles and hope the guards decide that must be what they heard. My turtles have, unfortuantely, died... multiple times... most recently when Bloodfruit tried to throw one of them at a target and missed - plunging the turtle into a volcano. RIP.

But when summoning the turtles once around Data 7, we learned something interesting. The two turtles summoned are always the same turtles! We haven't had a discussion with them yet about how this is possible when they have died multiple times... but one of them is Helios. Helios is old, even for a turtle. He's also basically deaf. When Data 7, or anyone who can speak with animals, tries to speak with him, his response is always the same: "Hello?"

But Helios still had a hero moment recently. Zatanna had hidden a key in a magical hat. If you reached into the hat with the desire of getting the key out, the hat grew teeth and tried to bite your hand off. Our party needed the key. How did we get it? Send Helios into the hat. He didn't know what was happening and he certainly didn't want the key. After he was in for a while, Brennus summoned Helios again and the key was sitting atop his shell.

Sorry for booting you from my list, Helios. I'll see you again soon and I look forward to your 'Hello?'

And Fastbreak/Xander is a campaign 1 character we recruited in this campaign, so Scare just has two characters now.

#51 - M.O.R.F.I.U.S.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/0/3/AAcguBAADkzz.jpg

Feed him sand!

Bloodfruit somewhat recently became Z'onn Z'orr alchemist. One of the items she learned to make is a consumable that can be used to find a valuable item hidden nearby. In Tokyo, she used one of these and was directed towards MORFIUS. MORFIUS is basically a tamigachi, but with an avatar of Dream within it. Bloodfruit is Fey and doesn't have... a complete grasp on our human world, so she spent some time convince that this was actually Morpheus trapped within the toy.

To feed MORFIUS, you feed him sand, obviously. And he would quite charmingly ask - "Feed me sand!". And when you did MORFIUS made an adorable chomping noise. Every time he asked for sand, a concened Brennus would also echo to Bloodfruit - "Quick, feed him sand!". Brennus had tamigochis and didn't want poor MORFIUS to die. Bloodfruit was covinced that this was Morpheus, imagine her despair if it was to die? We were in Tokyo for, what, seven sessions or so? And "feed me sand!" "Bloodfruit, feed him sand!" continued on across multiple of them. Brennus sounded more frantic each time. I think one of the moments got clipped from session. If JB or hombad have that handy, I'm sure they'll post it.

We eventually found out that MORFIUS was created by Toyman to be a phising scam. MORFIUS, in addition to asking Bloodfruit to feed him sand, asked her questions like her mother's maiden name. What street she grew up on. Her first pet's name. Her bank account information. But again, Bloodfruit being Fey meant she didn't understand these questions and gave nonsensical answers to them.

We also were warned that people who used MORFIUS too much ended up in a coma. But Bloodfruit seems fine. ...fine enough. ...for now, at least.

Hint for #50: This character was part of the Convoy.

I will as soon as I figure out an easy way to post audio clips to gamefaqs.com

"Bloodfruit, it's not actually Dream"
"No it definitely is"
"It's a phishing scam. We know this.
"No, it's Dream, he's stuck"
"It's not even the right one, Morpheus died and was replaced by Daniel."
"What no way Dream can't die"
"We have the literal creator right here telling us about it."
"Gotta get Dream out of this prison"

Bloodfruit never rides in cars. She only climbs on top of them. This has led to bad shit happening more than once. If she didn't mind dying, she would ride on top of our spaceship instead of in it (and given developments from this week's surprise session, it seems Bloodfruit would welcome dying, so it's extra odd).
