There was a lot of great Ambush Bug moments in C1. The thing that will stick with me (besides him giving me a tide coupon I thought would be important for some reason) was during a wedding I got Peyton Riley, the Ventriloquist, to comment on Ambush Bug's... lets go with companion... his doll Cheeks. It turned into an argument with Scarface that was everything I was hoping for.

#38 - Merlyn (Arthur King)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/8/5/AAcguBAADlzl.png

My list is weird, I know.

Merlyn has only has one brief appearance in Camapgin 2. When we infiltrated the Society Cell in Portsmouth, we found it ran by a ragtag group of individuals who seemed overconfident and somewhat ineffective (after all, we infiltrated them!). There we also found Merlyn. Merlyn was visiting from a Society Cell in Seattle and found Portsmouth to be a wild city that is outside of this Cells control. The leader of their cell, Mercia, wouldn't meet with Merlyn right away, pulling a power move to keep Merlyn waiting for him. Merlyn was disgusted, but intreged by us. He offered for us to visit his Cell in Seattle, a real Cell, and asked us to convince Seattle to mobilize their forces against Portsmouth. To destroy the Portsmouth Cell and show the Society that the Seattle Cell is the dominant cell in the area.

And that was it. We haven't been to Seattle yet and we haven't explored the new mechanic to convince Society cells to wipe out another cell to see how this shakes up the balance in the Soceity.

So why does he rank this high on my list? Well, for that we have to rewind time back to Campaign 1 and the complicated web that is the League of Assassins. It started with Varra's birthday, when Spirit wanted to buy her a present. Varra uses a bow as a weapon and the auction house had a bow, but no one bought it. Spirit tracked it down - it was bought by a man named Art King. Spirit went to him and bought it from him, presenting it to Varra. And what a bow it was! It was the Green Arrow's bow! What a nice man, that Art King was, for selling it back to him.

And then we found out that League of Assassins had hired people to kidnap Spirit, and that Art King is actually Merlyn, a member of the League of Assassins. Varra, Fields and Spirit go to his residence to look for clues - previously, Art King invited the group to come look at his tapestries. Varra and Field took him up on this offer to let Spirit sneak around his place invisibly. Unfortunately, he had heat sensors and instantly knew when Spirit was there.

Questioning him though, he had no idea what was happening with the League, for he was loyal to Ra's al Ghul, not any of Ra's children. But he questioned Varra's loyalties and refused to help them.

Later, Varra returned alone. She has learned more about the League and what was happening and thought that she might be able to trade information with Merlyn. She made a mistake during this conversation however, when she mentioned that Ra's father, Sensei, was in town. As soon as he heard the name, Merlyn packed up and left Gotham that night, leaving Varra with some advice and a special arrow - an arrow that would prove to be instrumental in the resurrection of Ra's al Ghul.

Even in campaign 1, Merlyn's time was short, but sweet. I'm not surprised no one guessed him. I'm not even entirely sure what made me put him as high on this list as I did. But in an organization that full is backstabbing and politics, Merlyn always seemed to tell things as they were and that was refreshing to me. Merlyn was always loyal to Ra's more than the League and we know in Campaign 2 that Ra's is once again dead and his children are fighting for control of it. I'm not surprised if that's why he is with the Society instead of the League, but I'm interested in finding out what he knows. I would be shocked if Merlyn didn't know more about what was happening with the League than I do.

Hint for #37: This character has been at Z'onn Z'orr with us since the beginning.

#37 - Mademoiselle Marie (Josephine Tautin)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/4/3/AAcguBAADl2D.jpg

This is another one that I think will be surprising! And I don't really know if I can explain it either. I kind of feel like Marge with the potatoes. I just think she's neat!

Marie has been here at Z'onn Z'orr since the beginning. She told Brennus early on that Count Vertigo would be happily welcomed by the Resistence, despite his past. She started off as Amanda Waller's assistant, but she rarely stopped us from seeing Waller. Waller's doors were open, but Marie provided a consistant presence in these visits. In the early days, as we were trying to build field teams out of our NPCs, Marie's name always came up. She was clearly competent. Her codename is part of a family legacy and at training sessions, she was always top of the class. But she had a position that was deemed more valuable and we let it be.

Eventually, Waller took on a new assistant, L-Ron. But before we could get Marie on a team, Brennus was warned by a trusted source not to put her on a team. This prompted investigations by Spirit and Brennus where we eventually discovered that she was taking a pill commonly given for sickness associated with chemotherapy. Was she sick? Was she hiding a cancer diagnosis? With a bit more digging, and a visit to our resident psychic, we found out that she was getting pills perscribed to hide the real person who needed them - Amanda Waller. So add on to all of her other traits loyalty - Spirit and Brennus both tried to talk to Marie about this and she never once even hinted that Waller was the one who needed the pills - just adamentally defended her own competency.

She still isn't on a field time, but this time there's a good reason for her not to be. She's slowly making her way across Germany with the goal to place a beacon in France, opening up more of Europe for our missions. She also has her own goals to get home, reasons that I feel we've barely touched upon, but they involve her grandmother, another Mademoiselle Marie. I have faith that Marie will make it. She's competent and driven. Add in just a little bit of luck and what more will she need?

Hint for #36 - Continuing our Checkmate residents, this person is a Pawn.

#36 - Pawn 905 (Jason Burr)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/7/1/AAOJ0pAADa_L.jpg

Ugh, Chrome refreshed and ate my write-up. I don't want to write this all again :weary:

Okay, Jason Burr. When we first arrived at Z'onn Z'orr, we accepted that we didn't know everyone in the organization. So when Saoirse was exploring a newly built Steam Valve Pipe Distribution Venue, it made sense that she found Jason, a Pawn in Checkmate that we hadn't met yet. He admitted to he that he felt more comfortable in this dark, damp place than he did in the rest of Z'onn Z'orr, but as he and Saoirse grew closer, Jason ventured out into Z'onn Z'orr more, meeting the other PCs as well.

Something odd, when talking to the PCs, Jason would often bring up a point from the last time they talked... but as far as the PCs knew, the last time they talked never happened. For Brennus in particular, he talked about when they spoke about his parents previously and also a movie recommendation he gave him. Brennus, being naive and trusting, never pushed on this and just accepted that his own memory must be faulty. This is the route most of the PCs took when they found themselves in the same situation with one exception. Spirit called out Jason on this, saying that they had never spoken before and that Jason was basically a stranger to him. Jason acted very hurt by this, not sure why Spirit was being so cruel and a wedge was driven between the two of them.

The other PCs grew closer to Jason - he always was very insightful and offered good advice to the characters for whatever issues they were having. We learned that he was someone we could vent about our issues to without judgement and perhaps get some good actionable advice from him afterwards. But no one grew as close to Jason as Saoirse, as the two of them developed a relationship of sorts.

After Tokyo, Brennus spoke to Jason about what he learned there about the League of Assassins, it's current civil war and the location of Talia al'Ghul. Jason told Brennus that, when the time comes, if Brennus trusts him, he will be able to take Brennus to his mother. Brennus was confused again, but again being trusting and naive, agreed. Shortly after that, Jason offered to take Saoirse with them, but not understanding what was happening, Saoirse refused, which led Jason to bite off her lip and poisioning her, leaving her on her bedroom floor for dead.

For you see, Jason Burr was more than Pawn 905. He was Kobra and he had infiltrated Z'onn Z'orr.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/764238471720075285/973315494113312838/Pawn_905_Revealed.jpg

And he wasn't alone. He had other Checkmate agents loyal to him who struck, taking out some of our key allies before we even knew what was happening. He let out everyone in our holding cells. He locked up those with magical abilities in Oblivion and took away our access to the magical bar. He stole the Star Sapphire Ring we were friends with. Anything we could think of to try to stop his infiltration he had already made sure we couldn't use against him.

He was honest with Brennus. One of his agents came and got Brennus, escorting him to where Kobra was planning his escape from Z'onn Z'orr. But Brennus couldn't just go along with this - on the way he tried to stealthily use his magic to help the other PCs that were struggling against roaring fires and an army of Dewormers. Unfortunately for Brennus, Kobra's agent saw what he was doing and his cover was blown.

By the end of the session, we ultimately had prevailed. Casulties were minimal on our side, we recovered our stolen properties and we killed Kobra's allies. But Kobra himself escaped, stealing one of our ships and sailing away. We know where he is heading and we know his plans - he wants to kill the daughters of Ra's al Ghul and take the League of Assassins for himself. And we know we're going to stop him. While Saoirse is the most eager to see Kobra and kill him, Brennus isn't far behind her. It was his information that made Kobra decide it was time for him to enact his plan. Many of us are eager to see him again and stop him. And stop him we will.

We never got an answer for the conversations we didn't remember. Were we just forgetful? Does Kobra have some kind of mental powers, where he either pulled this information from our heads in the first place or did we actually have these conversations and were hypnotized into forgetting? I don't know if we'll ever get an answer, but it's an interesting thing to think about.

Hint for #35: This character's name was typed in one of my write ups.

Starsa is less in the bar and more in Saoirse's purse or just around, but she could drop here
Hal could also drop here but he's on Oa, not in the bar
Zatanna is captured by Doctor Light and she has made an appearance but it was us trying to rescue her before Hard Light Flash stopped it and punched Nikhto into space then we had to fight Hard Light Aquaman.

#35 - Dweller in the Depths

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/6/2/AAcguBAADl-K.png

There is plenty we do not know about Dweller in the Depths. He's only appeared twice in the campaign so far, but his appearance, his personality and the mystery of him have fully captured my attention.

We first met Dweller when we went to Aquacave. Before we arrived, he directed AJ and King Shark into Aquacave to wait for us. He then found us as we approached the cave, warning us that the oceans are changing and growing angry. Atlantis was destroyed by the Spectre and the Gods of the sea came to defend it, but they were quickly killed by the Spectre as well and turned to salt. Indeed, as we first arrived in the seas where Aquacave was, we saw three giant god sand pillars.

Dweller was once a member of the Parliament of Waves and he wants to once against reconvene the Parliament. Despite the heavy presence that Parliaments have had so far, I'm having a hard time describing what they are. They are groups that revere a primordial essence, in this case, water. He has memories of those he has to find to recreate the Parliament and tells us that he looks forward to seeing us again. His own name has been lost in the ravages of the tibe's ebb and flow and now he tends to the gardens of the drowned.

We met Dweller again in Atlantis. This time, he was trying to hide from us, but Brennus noticed him (which is actually amusing since Brennus is notorious for having a terrible perception). He was afraid this time that us seeing him would bring portents of doom. He gives us a lot more information this time, talking about the different city-states under the ocean and the current state of them as well as going into specific details of how Atlantis fell and how easily The Spectre destroyed the city. When the party sees someone else under the seas, The Dweller quiet leaves. Or at least went back into hiding to observe us some more.

I have a lot less to say about this character because this character just has had a lot less screentime. Dweller has told us a lot but at the same time hasn't. There's a lot more that he knows and we've barely begun this character's storyline. It's a storyline that I am quite eager to see where it goes.

Hint for #34 - This character is not human.

#34 - L-Ron

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/8/4/AAcguBAADmAE.jpg

Greetings, Minion of Checkmate!

L-Ron is another character I'm fuzzy on his introduction details. I wasn't on the team that first found him and brought him back to Z'onn Z'orr. I do know that L-Ron was Max Lord's assistant. Max Lord was another leader of Checkmate before Wonder Woman killed him on national TV (details on this are still fuzzy). Amanda Waller believed that there was value in what L-Ron might know and L-Ron replaced Marie as her assistant.

I'm not sure if she's gotten much out of him, but we certainly have. L-Ron has a very inflated sense of self. He's very cocky, very confident and takes his position very seriously. He is here to keep Amanda Waller unoccupied for her important work and all of us PCs are lowly minions who she certainly has no time for. Unfortunately for L-Ron, he's very easy to trick. It didn't take long for the party to realize he's an obstacle in their way to get passed. Imply that you had an appointment and L-Ron must have misplaced it and he quickly will find your appointment - he can't admit he lost something! Trick him into saying something negative about Waller and then threaten him with it. Or just talk to him long enough that Waller gets impatient and tells him to let you in.

Here's some samples of L-Ron denying entry.

"The Queen's personnel decisions remain top secret unless otherwise noted, minion! Don't try to seek answers out of me - I am a titanium trap!"
"Okay, I won't pursue further. Is there... a time in which it is appropriate to speak to the people of Waller's personally chosen team?"
"27 o'clock."
Minerva nods and starts to walk away before stopping. "Wait, that's... Not a real time."
"Ha HA! Meeting delayed... forever!"
L-Ron lifts his pincers in triumph, chortling maniacally.

"Greetings, mighty L-Ron! I believe I have a meeting with the Queen. You got all my submitted paperwork for it, right?"
"Ah... ah... of course! Are you questioning my competency? Naturally, I have records of all paperwork ever submitted! In fact... you're late! You should be in that office right now!"
"Well, we don't want that! Thanks, L-Ron!"
Waller looks up briefly while scanning some documents, glasses low on her nose. "I didn't realize I had an appointment," she says stoically.

"Hey L-Ron. I need a meeting with the Queen." Data 7 waves with a paw to L-Ron as he approaches
"Greetings, minions of Checkmate! Let's see if there's an open appointment!"
"Hmm..."
"Hmm..."
"Searching..."
"Hmmm..."
"Searching..."
L-Ron flips dozens of pages in Waller's expansive day planner, passing into the year 2009.

L-Ron also loves hats. So much that if you place a hat on his head, it changes his personality. Data 7 places a karate band on his head and he started speaking in Japanese.

""

Which translates to:
"Macho macho man. I want to be a macho man!"

And when Data 7 gave him a birthday hate:
L-Ron stops moving. "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaa
L-Ron moves his head a little, trying to see the hat.
"aaaaa- BIRTHDAY!"
He throws his ream of paper into the air, allowing its loose leaves to float to the ground.
"Fuck this! I'm outta here! It's a holiday!"

L-Ron is absolutely fantastic. I could post so many more scenes of his but I think the above do a great job in explaining why he's this high on my list.

Hint for #33: This character has been in Gotham in both campaigns.

14 unique rankings so far.

Maniac is learning so much!

Gotham in both campaigns? That's uh... well...

Harvey
Joker
Oracle
Nightwing
Alfred
Bud and Lou
Penguin
Steeljacket
The Mortician
Leslie Tompkins
Carter Nichols
I guess King of Spades
Man-Bat
Azrael doesn't count
Ratcatcher
Terrible Trio
Renee Montoya's dad

I think that's the comprehensive list? At least of characters that have made an appearance.

Means it's Harvey, Joker, Penguin, or Oracle. I don't think you like Penguin enough this time around.

Oracle. For "Little Brennus".
