First time looking up the word they are changing and I had no idea it was a homophobic slur. Is this something new people are emailing the word out to be? Sure it is a curse word, but it was jus the Spanish version of the f word as far as I knew. Maybe it really was a homophobic slur and I had no idea it was. Anywho fuck the bigots.

And they'll keep doing it unless actually punished with suspensions.

The homophones don't give two shits about fines, but if Mexico's football association gets temp banned they will definitely come down harder as to not lose all the money.

Ban from the world cup as well tbh, for teams that can't stop it.

I'd say banning from the world cup makes it easier to deal with and makes it readily apparent.

Or they should just hit the fans themselves with the fines. And i don't mean charge them based off pesos, but rather USD.

Couple points here:

1. FIFA and its related bodies are all cowards that are solely concerned with money. After the last world cup it is clear they have no real moral imperative to change the bad parts of the game.

3. What's to be done about it? Well I always took it as a joke, but I also don't have sex with men, so others clearly take it differently. The only real way to change will be bans, but the chant is so prevalent that Mexico really doesn't want to have to ban some of its most passionate supporters.

There's a difference between a soccer fan and a hooligan. I know there's never any kind of rioting or violence after a soccer game here in my little Texas town, and oftentimes there are like 100 people in the stadium because it's just not a big deal here. But those folks are still fans, they're just not cray-cray like hooligans are.

Yeah that word is basically just "generic insult, fill in the blank". It doesn't necessarily have a gay connotation but it definitely can depending on the context. Spanish slang is incredibly malleable. "Sus" is more homophobic than that word.
