Spent last night and this morning tying up a bunch of loose ends. Oftentimes, I like to experience as much of a game as possible on the firstplaythrough, and I think I'm drawing close to that wih CT.

Marle's Quest - Pretty damn hilarious. I can't believe I gave the king jerky, but the reaction cracked me up so hard. Even funnier was the climax, with the present-day "Chancellor" morphing into Yakra the 23rd, vowing revenge. Admittedly, I never saw it coming, and it was so entertaining. I can't remember it being very challenging (overleveled or not), which is weird because I got some serious gear from that rainbow rock. I chose the three Prism Helms over the lone Prism Dress.

Lucca's Quest - Very, very touching. I didn't even realize her mom was paralyzed, but it made you feel for the character in that she chose to revisit this one moment in time. The time traveling is very well done here, and in the whole game in general, I've come to notice. Also, I kinda felt for Robo having to do hard labor for 400 years while we just zipped through time, but them's the breaks! Like... the Star Wars gang would have totally forced C3-PO to do the same thing.

Frog's Quest - Good stuff yet again. I liked the silly little "tools" portion with the carpenters and his apprentices, and the enemies in the ruins were cool. Brought some great closure to Glenn's story and gave his character that extra little oomph, although I wish he and Magus would have just one private conversation. Seems like something that would bring even more closure for both.

Magus's Quest - ****ing hilarious, maybe even funnier than Marle's. Ozzie is tremendous comic relief, especially when considering the age of this game and the lesser quality of video game writing/translations back then. The moment when he summoned two enemies on a conveyor belt only for them to fall through holes in the floor (with the battle theme stopping in embarrassment) - man, that got me good. Doesn't seem like Ozzie is dead, either, which is good news! Maybe he makes a CC cameo? This quest also gave me OzziePants. lol wtf

Ayla's Quest - ...Oh **** you Square.

Robo's Quest - Eh, he's just not as relateable. His quest wasn't as emotionally gratifying as the others (the non-comic ones, anyway), but I actually enjoyed the puzzle elements, and it was very helpful for strengthening my team. The conveyor belt fight at the start gives great XP/Tech points and can be redone, so I used it to get every Tech, putting the final flower in my bouquet of CT overpoweredness.


Team Level - everyone is around the mid 50s. Pretty sure that's high.

Gear - I'm running Crono/Magus/Ayla, and all three are pretty decked out. Crono has his Rainbow sword and Moon Armor. Ayla is rocking a Zodiac Cape. Both have Prism Helms. Magus has his Gloom Helm and Gloom Cape, and also his ultimate weapon, the Doom Sickle (lmao). I gave him a Gold Stud for 75% less MP usage, and a Silver Stud to Crono. Ayla is accessorizing a Frenzy Band for 80% counterattacks.

I have all the magic absorbing Mails and everyone's ultimate weapon (except Marle's because I screwed up and accidentally opened the chest in 600 AD). Only the Black Omen remains now, I think. Oh, and the Level 40+ Skeppio challenge, which I'll try now.

Gotta say, the sidequests really redeemed what I felt was an underwhelming 12,000 BC. Chrono Trigger might have the most universally likable cast in any RPG I've ever played, and it was nice to help my friends out and complete their story arcs. There was a perfect blend of humor and emotion, as well. I'm actually puzzled as to why FFX didn't really have any of that - FFVII and Chrono Trigger are way funnier games.

quick break for this.
yeah, 3 prism helms are the way to go in that one because it's much better of an item. Prism Dress isn't even unique in that (nor are the Helms) but it's female only and barely better than the rest of your equipment by then.

Robo's big deal for his quest is getting 3 points of speed as part of what he gets from uh... Chick-Robo. his 6 speed becomes 9 and suddenly he's great. it's stackable with NG+ too, so if you play it again and do it again you get 3 more points of speed. NG+ is pretty much "Robo kills everyone" as this happens.

you've some way to go to beat it but almost done yes. and Ayla -> Charm Top. do iiiit.


As for Magus, you'll note by now that no he doesn't have any dual techs.
likewise, you'll note that his __2 spells are pretty damn strong. that's because for some reason his are stronger than everyone else's. the base spell itself is stronger by a good deal, and then you get his magic stat, so... yeah. as for his spells, they're ALSO more powerful than his LV2 elementals (Dark Bomb and Dark Mist), although Bomb and Mist have the same damage output (so if you're ever wanting to save some MP, there you go, just mind the AoE).
to offset this though... Dark Matter's actually the weakest of the ultimate spells. it's even weaker than Robo's Shock (which is actually around Flare's level). Lumanaire you'll note, is the strongest spell in the game. it's bogged down only due to Crono's magic stat.

lol frog, marle. frog's somewhat useful with a Frog/Lucca tech at least. but even that's not as useful as the techs Lucca/Robo bring (which together pretty much break the game). marle just kinda sits there going 'well i can almost fully heal you with a Cure1 and i have Haste'.

triple kick is entirely different so not really comparable there. and ayla's got some great techs all around anyway. and no, there's no explanation as to why Napalm is considered magic in CT.

FFX's world was so bleak...the only humor could really come from Tidus.

Through Rikku and Wakka tried a bit.

It doesn't really matter, but if you want to go to the Black Omen, do so in 1000AD. The final boss of the black Omen has some pretty neat stuff that you can steal, and if you go through the Black Omen three times (1000AD-->600AD-->12000BC) you can fight the boss 3 times and thus steal 3 times. Unless you're obsessive about stuff like that (I kinda am >_>), you probably don't want to go through the Black Omen 3 times, but starting with 1000AD at least keeps the possibility open, and there's really no downside to entering the Black Omen in 1000AD. Weirdly enough, a bunch of stuff in the Black Omen will be defeated in 600AD if you kill them in 1000AD first, which makes absolutely no sense at all. I guess they didn't want people farming Speed Tabs. Not like there isn't a New Game+ that kind of renders that whole plan pointless.

Marle has Cube Toss. Which if you look at how the damage system works is one of the few dual techs in the game actually worth using at end game. But unless your running Ayla she's pretty meh.

Antipode 3 was doing like 3000 damage to the enemies in Robo's quest. Seemed pretty sick to me, and looked cool.

What are you talking about? FFX is funny! Well, Tidus is anyway. I dunno. There aren't very many RPGs I would classify as "funny" to begin with though. I don't think CT is one of them either.

Yeah, Mario RPGs are funny. That's not to say there aren't RPGs with humor in them. There just aren't very many that I would describe to someone as "This is a funny game." The Mario RPGs would probably be some of the only ones I would describe as such.

basically there's some equipment that allows triple techs to be done. it's the only way to do triple techs WITHOUT Crono.

but it's pretty worthless because while dual techs are an amazing feature, triple techs flat out suck.

Suggestion: disregard igordebraga's suggestion. New Game + is awesome! I'd say maybe take a break if you want, but definitely come back to it at some point for the hidden endings.

new game+ is definitely a worse experience because you're going 'i've done all this and i can kill you all in 2 seconds.'

but you're not really overleveled anymore probabl. personally i ended my first game close to, and THAT is over leveled. you'll prob end under 60. but with so few things that really change there's not much you could want to do save a few things...

on second thought, play NG+ and blitz through the game. there's something i almost forgot about that's completely awesome and fun.

Watching the staff roll now. Great ending to a great game. Shorter than I thought it would be, though. The play clock says it took me about 35 hours, but I always pause the game and leave a lot, so the actual playtime was under 30, and that's with all the side quests (that I know of). I did ask around here or consult a walkthrough a few times when I got stuck, though, so that musta shaved some time off.

Counting the KH series, this is the fifth "epic" Square game I've played through. They are:

Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy X
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts II

And I have a helluva hard time trying to rank them. All are awesome imo.

I did! Especially at the end. I wound up with more Nova Armors and Gold Studs than I know what to do with. I also stole the second Haste Helm from the Lavos Spawn.

By the way, I beat the game at Level 59. I wonder how long it'll take to reach 99. Are there any bonus challenges or anything that would actually make it worth my while?

Levelling to 99 (** in the game) is a long grind in the Black Omen.

lavos spawns can get you safe helms too. or just a safe helm i forget how many can do it. but eah, your NG+ run basically will consists of you going with Prism Helms for Spekkio, Haste Helms for everything else. you went with Marle instead of Lucca during your getting of Robo, so switch that up (and it'll make it go a whole lot faster). you can also get the Safe Helm instead of the sword, and Prism Dress (if wondering, Zeal has it on her somehow, so go steal it from her too) for your chicks.

in terms of who maxes out strength: Ayla and Robo do it in their 60s. Crono does it a bit later, either late 60s or early 70s. Frog and Magus do it almost at the same time, late 70s. if you've tabbed them up this will go a lot quicker, but the only two you def didn't need to tab are Ayla and Robo. however DO continue to level Ayla up. her "weapon" will upgrade.

in terms of who maxes magic: Lucca, Magus. that's it, and she does it first. i forget the level on it, but the other guys never get anywhere CLOSE, so go ahead and tab up Robo, Crono, and Frog.

also something to consider: when you revived Crono, who was in your party?

I think it was Magus, Ayla, and Frog. Sytha gave me good advice when he told me to Magic Tab Crono, because I was casting Luminaire a ton in the endgame. I have a bunch of Speed Tabs right now at the start, too. Crono is at ** (16, right?). Ayla and Magus were at 13 at the end of my last game. I think I have 13 of em on me.

I'm probably going to read some plot stuff that explains what I can do to get the different endings or radically change things. How many endings are there, anyway?

think it's something like 13. but a lot are minor differences, like 'you didn't do this quest!' or something. i can spoil a couple of the other endings but some are fun to find on your own. there's one you probably will stumble upon by accident actually, so be sure to save early on. there's another you probably will find really awesome.

the rest are mostly comedy based and yes, a FAQ would be recommended to find some of the more hilarious ones. if you don't mind i can spoil the 2 you definitely can easily find and play.


and yes, speed tab 'em. be sure to magic tab Frog if you want to use him, or magic tab Robo if you want to use him. Robo eats all of mine every playthrough i do anyway because Shock isn't THAT much weaker than Luminaire, and he can heal. Crono takes 2nd to me there.

with that said.... man. you got the third tier of things in the revival scene. swap out someone for it all. let's go with... Frog. 4 people can say/do different things in that scene: Marle, Lucca, Frog, and Robo. pretty sure it's in that order of heirarchy too, so a Frog + Robo won't get you Robo's bit. save before you revive him then swap out the frog for one of the others.

..in fact, i'm surprised you DIDN'T speed tab Lucca or Marle. or Robo. they kinda desperately need it. granted, you don't have to tab Robo as much now because e keeps that +3 speed bonus from Chick-bo and you can do it again for another 3, but still. do everyone else and slap 3 on the bot when you get a chance.

There are actually enough Speed tabs in 1 playthru to get everyone to ** if you equip everyone right actually. I just tab the hell out of Marle early and haste Crono and whoever else is in my party at the time.

I micro-managed pretty extensively at the beginning, but once I realized the game wasn't hard, I got lax and focused more on exploring and finding all the treasures. I probably didn't assign any Tabs the last 20 hours or so.

marle uses an ice spell. robo goes 'hey that's a good idea LET ME TAKE IT' and the proceeds to ram into somebody's face.

lucca's my favorite.

and that is strongest dual tech of the game by a good margin, and stronger than some triple techs too.

seriously, you've gotta check out robo's techs again. they're unintentionally hilarious and totally awesome. none of it makes sense, but damned if it don't work. he literally just goes 'yeah you can throw that in me i'll be fine with it' to pretty much everything.


also if you pimped out crono, you MUST pimp out robo.
shock like i said earlier, is only a little weaker than Flare. still a decent bit stronger than Dark Matter. it's the 2nd strongest electric tech and the 3rd strongest magical move in the game... and he has a dual tech with Crono where both use it. so No. 1 spell + No. 3 spell. if you pimp both out? ...yeah.

Near the end of the game, I noticed that Dark Matter was doing a bit more damage on bosses than Luminaire. Magus and Crono were the same level (or only one apart), so I assumed it was because Magus's magic stat was higher?

As for Techs in general, I still haven't even tested half - they really included a lot, which is cool. My favorite are Crono and Ayla's, though. Volt Bite and Falcon Hit are the business. I can't remember if I've even tried one Triple Tech yet.

I didn't know the details as well as the FFVII spoiler, but I knew that Crono eventually sacrifices himself and that he can be brought back. Had I not known, it would have been a pretty huge deal. Although honestly, I don't think it's as powerful as FFVII's. I knew all about that one and it still got me.
