From: Haguile | #047 Also apparently the writers write Rock's promos and Cena's are all unscripted. Huh.
Shouldn't be surprising really (although I'm sure he's also exaggerating and it's a mix of both for both guys). Cena going off on his weird tangents and yelling could easily be to cover for him not quite being sure of where he's going next, and Rock...well, it's kind of obvious that he's not spontaneous when his promos so frequently involve another guy who has to know what lines to say to set up Rocks jokes and catch phrases and interruptions.

Mistake you're making - overlooking the fact that we might not want to be saved.
Yeah Jakyl and I said pretty much the same thing in less words in some dude's CM Punk Promo topic where a guy said "well I hope they're careful Russo thought shoot promos were a good idea too"

Now, according to that one wrestling site I won't name for computer security reasons (which is, in fairness, the most accurate site about backstage WWE news), none of Punk's promo was scripted/outlined/approved ahead of time. He got free reign to say whatever he wanted, and would be cut off at the point where they felt he went too far.
I'll say that again: With the end of his contract near, he get free reign to cut a shoot promo during the most-watched segment of WWE Monday Night Raw without running any of the content by Vince or Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, etc. They'd just cut him off when he went too far, and he clearly knew what "too far" was.
This is what I was hoping it was. They showed the end credit graphic at 11 and then Punk came out, and I figured they told him to just slow burn it and keep building to the point where he'd know when he hit "the line" because they'd cut his mic. That's really the only way something like that could have worked.

From: JaKyL25 | #028 Despite UltraMantis being incredibly awesome, he's never held a single championship!
He will come November!
I was thinking maybe a bit more diverse progression of guys that are all awesome in some way, not just like the " top representative of their era" guys.
Just off the top of my head: Lou Thesz --> Bobo Brazil --> Mil Mascaras --> Ric Flair (center) --> Mitsuharu Misawa --> Chris Jericho --> Austin Aries
From: JaKyL25 | #031 But even if we did do a progression of people I think your original idea of Thesz visible on the left is best, and no one should be "coming out the other end" at the right. Even the last guy should be in soft focus behind the blog title. Just Thesz in hard focus.
I just wanted to throw a shoutout to UMB.
I would actually prefer for UMB not to win the title. His feuds are so amazing that he doesn't need the title to stay relevant and interesting. I really want them to give it to Icarus, but I'm avoiding spoilers until I can buy the Chicago and Detroit shows so I'm not sure how he's faring.
I also like your idea of keeping Thesz as the only one in focus. Going by your style of awesome world champs but sticking to chronological order, I'd go:
Thesz --> Bruno --> Harley Race --> Ric Flair (center) --> Chono (has to be included in terms of awesomeness and connection to Thesz) --> Stone Cold (connection to Thesz again) --> Last spot open for anybody from Aries to Davey Richards
He threatened to leave instead of wrestle Gregory Iron and then did so momentarily, and then got massive boos upon coming back.
Implying that the fans would rather NOT GET A PROMISED MATCH than see him wrestle.
WORST IN THE WORLD! WORST IN THE WORLD! WORST IN THE WORLD!
Not only does he get tremendous heat, but he's been with the company since the very first training class in 2002 (along with UMB and Hallowicked). He's gotten a Campeonatos de Parejas reign and a King of Trios win but he still deserves the singles championship.
Hallowicked has gotten a CdP and a Young Lions Cup.
From: KamikazePotato | #059 Haguile showed me the CM Punk video. As someone who doesn't know that much about wrestling, that was pretty amazing.
Just think how it's even more amazing when you *do* know all the stuff he's talking about
But yeah that's a big strength of this, it appeals to the smark crowd but it doesn't at all stop anyone else from realizing that even if they don't know the specific details, they know he's dropping some pretty big taboo remarks.

UPDATE: As of Tuesday, June 28, WWE and CM Punk have reached an agreement that Punk will fulfill his non-televised live event obligations for the remainder of his contract, through July 17. Furthermore, both sides have mutually agreed not to disparage one another.

Thank you, Eddie Guerrero. http://i.neoseeker.com/n/2/nintendo_quality_seal.jpg
The non-consensual entertainment line was actually good but then he didn't really follow up with it by explaining what he meant properly and instead just went on incoherent rambling for his "explanation"

yeah, building more and more until he crosses that line was what that promo seemed like it was about. Punk knew benoit = instant crossing. everyone does. but what else can he say or do? ...well, a lot apparently. it just flows so well and the emotion starts to build up hard. by the time he's talking about Cena vs. Rock at WM that felt 100% honest rage.
the big showing here though is that Vince really, really trusts Punk. he did during the Hardy run, he still does now during this run, and it's insane. the last people to get freedom like this are your biggest guys - Austin, HHH, Jericho, HBK. just all around awesome.
Furthermore, both sides have mutually agreed not to disparage one another.
this has me slightly confused to what they mean by it. and excited in that i don't know what they mean by it.

It means neither side can trash or put down the other. Punk can't continue that promo on twitter, and the WWE can't try and bury Punk. It's basically an agreement along the lines of "if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything".

Vince and Punk have an interesting relationship in that he'll pretty much let Punk go free reign because he's so good. at the same time, Vince didn't push Punk to the top either like he easily could do. he makes others look good in the ring and is a compelling man who grabs your attention and interest.
so there's a definite respect Vince has for Punk, part for his talent in every regards, part for his mind, and part for the fact that he's straight edge. he's been in the doghouse so long and for so much that it's ridiculous what he's put up with and gone through to prove he's a once-in-a-generation superstar. thing is, he knows it, and will make sure you know that he does to make his point. i remember when his ring gear in particular was being complained about and he took a stab at how cena's gear is crap so they shouldnt' give him anything. the general response was that he shouldn't compare himself to cena.
pretty sure that sentiment got completely destroyed over the years, with last night him schooling everyone who talked him down, ever, in the locker room backstage.

i'm pretty sure i've got a picture on one of these drives of Punk with a bunch of Pokemon plushies. >_>
and while it may be like they're trying to say 'we won't do anything if you don't,' it's.... still just a strange idea. especially for a guy who's said he's in 'what are they gonna do, fire me?' mode. will Punk acknowledge it? how will he act?
confuses me why that would be the official stance. but in a good way.
