***NITPICKING TIME BUT DOING IT OUT OF LOVE***

On the subject of the actual Punk vs. Cena match, it was not flawless. If they had hit everything as they intended perfectly, then we're talking ****1/2, but they didn't. There were a few minor botches here and there, and I can only go as high as ****1/4. For the match. The angle is a ***** angle and has been since Day One </Jay Briscoe>.

In longer 1-on-1, non-gimmick matches like we saw tonight, the WWE Style is exposed. You don't need a big moveset to get through 99% of WWE matches, but the general lack of one for Cena and the limitations on Punk's hurt the match a bit tonight. Too much repetition. Again, this is merely a minor flaw holding it back from perfection, not from greatness.

REALLY curious what PPV's Jakyl puts over this one. Granted his experience dwarfs mine, but I am trouble thinking of a PPV I've seen that COMPETES, much less beats it.

I don't know, I expect some botches to happen in any big match, even my favourites have some sloppy moments. I don't use the five star rating to indicate perfection, just a match that was about as entertaining as I could reasonably have asked. Could it have been better? Yes. Can I really ask for anything more than I got? No. The atmosphere and crowd more than make up for the mistakes.

so I don't know about you guys, but that was the best wrestling anything I've ever seen.

cena and punk put on a fantastic match to cap off a fantastic angle with a fantastic conclusion. the rest of the ppv was good as hell, with my favorites winning in most of the situations (and del rio is an acceptable alternative)

yeah. I picked the perfect time to watch wrestling again. my god, what a show.

TNA puts on a great ppv the weak before, and now WWE goes on and totally blows it out of the water.

Tonight was a marvelous ppv. Probably the best I have ever viewed.

So, Jakyl: how is this handled in terms of reign length for the list. If there isn't a replacement championship and Punk is gone, for say, a month then comes back, would that be a month on his reign, or what?

gotta feel sorry for TNA, every time they really try hard to put on something good, they usually do put up something not too bad at all, but in the same timespan the WWE just ends up putting something insanely good.

If they recover the botches, I'm cool with it. Like I said, ADR/Rey got messy but it looked more like ADR recovered from a ladder debacle and Rey couldn't because of the mask thing. Instead of "oh well a clever scripted ending" it was "oohhhh! ouch! damn! nice!"

And yeah you've got stuff like WM17, WM19, WM20, WM24, Great American Bash '89, Spring Stampede '99, Death Before Dishonor VIII, Royal Rumble 2007, Backlash 2000, and Barely Legal that are all IMO superior when it comes to combined match quality/angle continuation, even if the angles weren't as good mostly.

Then you've got "events" with atmosphere and booking on par with tonight like WM3, BatB '96, One Night Stand '05, and Survivor Series '98 (arguable).

And there are still lots of TNA PPVs I haven't seen from back when they were better received.

Finding a spot in there for MitB 2011 is gonna make Top Ten a tight fit IMO. I'm not saying all of those PPVs are better, not by a long shot. I'm just saying those are the ones off the top of my head that are in contention with tonight.

That's entirely up to WWE, to be honest. They own the belts, they decide who held them during "controversial" times.

I wish I could take away Dolph's "reign" from earlier this year and just not count it, but I can't.

regarding the botches i've been saying it in the chat and stuff, but i think it was because a lot of the action was more real than it usually is. their movements were a bit different, they landed a bit differently from high risk moves. some of the shots were pretty hard hitting (especially the double knees by Punk, goddamn) and i don't think they held back too much in terms of how hard they hit, or even could hit. so in a situation like that, you're gonna get some more botches. but in exchange, you get more impact.
