I think the issue with the lack of DB cash-in is more of an issue with booking the beat-down at all.

With everything else going on, you don't want Bryan's title win (or cash-in loss) to get lost in the shuffle. I totally get that.

But since that's the case, then don't put the champ in such a scenario that it looks dumb that he didn't come out there.

Christian won the World Heavyweight Championship.

Punk won the WWE Championship over Super Cena clean and walked out of Chicago with the belt.

They did this last year at Summerslam too, except that time they had an alibi.

Sheamus retained cheaply against Orton, and then post-match Orton went berserk like tonight and destroyed Sheamus. The camera lingered and lingered and lingered on Sheamus's recovery, almost like the producers were expecting a Miz cash-in that never came.

Miz explained the next night that he COULD have cashed in but chose not to so that he would be fresh for the Team WWE vs. Team Nexus match. He wanted to prove that he was a team player. And then after that sacrifice, Cena chose Daniel Bryan over him, and that pissed him off.

Yeah the finisher type segment definitely made me think back to Trips/Taker and actually made me lean towards a Punk win since Cena was playing Trips role pretty well for a while there.

I too was expecting a Bryan Daniel cash in, but now I am thinking Cody makes him put it up for grabs so he can cash in later on Orton when Orton gets it back

Thinking about if for a couple of seconds... Orton was the belt, and he wants Christian hurt. He's probably looking to get that done in one go. No guarantee that Orton isn't chugging out there and wrecking DB - makes complete sense not to meddle with Orton tonight, especially after surviving MITB yourself.

i didn't know about the title changing hands on a dq thing until the match started, but once i did i expected the match to play out exactly like it did (well, for the most part), leading to danielson cashing in. i was completely expecting it and it simply didn't happen. but i can't be too mad because we now basically have a crazy orton, which is possibly the most unstoppable force in wwe that isn't WM taker, plowing the road to the world heavyweight championship for american dragon, and that feels good. and think of it this way...orton destroys christian, danielson cashes in. teddy long suspends orton as a result of the vicious attack. then orton is off tv (for the time being) and we get danielson/christian matches. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

speaking of things i expected to happen that didn't, during the part where sheamus kicked everybody's ass and was alone in the ring, i fully expected him to start climbing the ladder only to have sin cara come running back out and jump from outside the ring all the way into the ring to dropkick the ladder or something. that would have been awesome. i can't believe it was miz that got the heroic comeback spot, i actually thought he was legitimately injured.

also, i'm pretty sure i'm not sticking with that 5 star rating. the story gets 6 ****ing stars, but i'm not sure how the ringwork factors in. there were quite a few botches (and oddly most of them seemed to be punk's fault, although i'm not sure how much cena has to do with whether or not punk lands on his feet out of the AA or protobomb)...i need to sleep on it.

Something I don't think we've touched on about the match:

I loved how the fixed crowd dynamic allowed Punk to work face and Cena to work heel during the match (as in the match was built around Cena kicking Punk's ass but the crowd willing Punk to continue and hang in there and find openings). So refreshing.

But yet no one broke character. Cena never actually DID anything heelish, and Punk used heel tactics to start some hope sequences.

Sheer brilliance.

i was thinking that too...i was actually expecting for "security" to carry orton out after he went back the second time, leaving the opportunity for danielson

he's officially left wwe with the title, he's done it

but! john cena is fired. he's no longer an employee of world wrestling entertainment

there is nothing stopping him from showing up in ring of honor to challenge punk

it really makes perfect sense

the only way it makes sense for cena to get his job back is to bring the wwe championship with him. vince is not going to forgive and forget

so

cena goes to the roh tv tapings in chicago on saturday, august 13th. he challenges punk in literally the most hostile environment possible. he wins.

LITERALLY THE VERY NEXT NIGHT is summerslam

raw main event is alberto del rio cashing in his money in the bank contract against a "mystery opponent" of his choosing (mystery opponents draw PPV buys right...eh if the smackdown ME is big enough (ie. orton doing something i guess)). oppoent ends up being santino or something (royal rumble foreshadowing!). del rio wins. suddenly BRRRRRRRRRRR APPLE DOUGH.

The problem for that Tim is the same problem that arises regarding any fantasy booking of Cena chasing Punk to the Indies---those ROH TV tapings aren't live. Fans can't follow the story except by reading about it, even if WWE told them what was happening.

Surely ROH isn't going to let WWE tape footage at their own TV Tapings and air it the next night at Summerslam!

Cena played the brutish boyscout, and tossed a shrug before the FNS. I loved that. A lot of spots highlighted how powerful Cena is and how crafty and skilled Punk is. It isn't part of the angle, but Punk has often had a stable of kiss-asses and couldn't really win the PPV matches with or without them. Punk not exactly a heel now, so they let him take Cena finishers and avoid his followers from weighing him down. Maybe I'm not getting my entire point across well here, but, it's an interesting shift for CM Punk.

Man. Now I really wish I ordered this PPV. I was so close to doing it, too, but stuff came up.

But holy crap WWE actually booked it correctly. I'm in shock, this is fantastic. I'm seriously looking forward to Raw tomorrow for the first time in who knows how long. I wish I'd seen the PPV but this is good enough.
