currently can't progress on it since the current step I'm on requires two female party memebers with high affinity and I don't have a 2nd female party member yet

that's where I'm going next

this game has gotten really overwhelming with the massive environments, massive quests and massive amount of things to do. I just get so bogged down trying to complete everything and I'm not even trying to do half of it. there's just so much going on!

That's the thing, I got to Eryth Sea and I was like "whoa hold the phone, I left a s*** ton of Nopon unsatisfied in Frontier Village. Better go back and complete some quests.

These past two days I haven't advanced the story whatsoever, I'm just completing a bunch of quests.

wakamoto voiced "person" sorry chav voices you're gone

also you can deal with the rodriguez quest by running away and resetting him as he then stares at the wall for a bit contemplating reality and his place in it.

good so far but the game really needs a far more polished quest UI- hunting down npcs in colony 9, opening logs all the time to find out if sarcastic brog was in one of the 50000 quests you picked up or if it was wry brog etc

It's not even the precognition sometimes. Talk to those generics or people around town.

Like, you'll learn stuff like the squarestache general is still alive immediately just from a generic, and Desiree has some juicy stuff after the ether mines.

brought my Wii to my friend's house to show him xenoblade

his TV only had the composite cords though and not component. Apparently Xenoblade doesn't like that because it only runs in black & white like that.

So we played it for an hour in black & white

I've seen a lot of component players whine about the "bad graphics," but I had never heard about it being in black and white.

Apparently for this game there's a big difference between component and composite, and the text is really hard to read with component cables. Black and white though, that's interesting.

If you have third party component/composite hybrid cables, they have a switch you need to flip to switch between the modes. Otherwise, the video comes up black and white or not at all.

Some don't have a switch actually. I would have gotten shafted by this fun fact a while back if I didn't still have the Nintendo composite cables that came with the Wii. I went into settings, switched the video output around (making it look weird temporarily) and then plugged the component cables back in. Voila.

Mixing around to keep it fresh, but if I had to choose, Sharla/Dunban/Shulk, swapping shulk out for Mage Girlz if I don't need Monado. Her knock down kick thingy is so good. Wish I could kick out Sharla for her but so far her + Shulk's healing doesn't seem quite enough.

Also Mage Girlz likes Dobercorgis very much, if you need to rase her and Sharla's affinity for a certain quest...

I'm pretty sure wii modding requires like 2 minutes and an SD card, though I'm also pretty sure I can't explain how here.

The game has its flaws- the side quests are pretty much just "kill x" or "get 3 moosesquirrel tails" but the game has millions of stuff to do, a decent battle system, and most importantly typical jrpg teens talking like chavs. It's certainly one of the better jrpgs to come out this gen.

do you like Oblivion?

are you trying to make me retroactively hate the game

I've now gotten far enough in the game that I felt it's safe to enter this topic without fear of being spoiled.

Amazing game in every regard, and it just keeps on going! It's kind of hilarious how much this craps all over FF13 when it comes to being a state-of-the-art JRPG. Even the visuals are better, as long as it's not close-up. On the Wii. Heck, they don't even use pre-rendered cutscenes and they still pull off cinematography to match Square's in scale and emotional power.

Also, JRPG with a jump button and no invisible walls. You can literally jump off cliffs thousands of meters high and land at the bottom. Sure, the physics are Kingdom Hearts-bad, but I take this over insurmountable waist-high fences anyday.

One thing that keeps nagging me is all those pesky missable quests though. If there's one thing I hate it's being overleveled, so for the entire game I've had to avoid battles 99% of the time because just doing the quests and exploring threaten to make me too strong. It wouldn't be a problem if I could just postpone the quests, but you never know when some disaster is going to wipe out all those alarm clock quests forever!

Not to mention how hard it is to even FIND all of the missable quests, considering the day/night system and the fact that quests trigger other quests etc. I tell you, I've been paranoid about advancing the story every time I get to a new obvious "stuff is going to happen" point ever since I got to NAMESPOILERSAlcamothENDSPOILERS, in fear of the city suddenly evaporating for some unpredictable reason(It hasn't happened yet, and that was a long time ago).

Now with the end seemingly in sight I wonder how the heck they're going to tie up the story without making a mess. Unless there's a "to be continued".

By the way, do you guys make sure to re-talk to the NPCs from time to time? A lot of the affinity chart stuff, and thus further quests, comes from talking to characters that don't have exclamation marks after you've done something else, like completing some quest or talking to someone they know.
