Does anyone know if generic npcs can add affinity links as well? I've been ignoring them as too much hassle.

Not directly, but you'll without doubt miss a lot if you don't talk to them all, and not just once but twice each. A huge amount of crucial information comes from the generics, since named NPCs usually talk about themselves rather than give you tips.

It really is RPG 101 though: Talk to everyone, until they repeat themselves, and do it again after every major plot development.

Also, I've never gotten any spoilers from NPCs so that's just bullcrap(or said by people who don't see obvious plot twists coming until they happen). There's a lot of interesting story-related info though, such as finding out that SPOILERS UP TO THE EVENTS ON PRISON ISLAND SPOILERS

Does anyone know whether there's a "right" choice to any of the multiple path sidequests? Like the one with King Squeeze, the two fighting brothers, the soldiers' failure love triangle, etc.

I'm always worried I'm losing out on something by making a wrong choice. Same regarding who to invite to Colony 6.

Debuted at 3rd in the UK, 5th and 8th in Germany (CCpro bundle), 1st and 3rd France. I'd imagine it's not doing too badly.

I got over it when I got Reyn out of the party. now it's just that awful Sharla/Dunban commentary about giving up the sword that's bugging me.

The sixth party member you get has the best battle quotes of all of them (not sure if it could be considered a spoiler).

6 has fantastic dialogue period

but I haven't used 6 in my party as much as I would have liked. just too adamant on having a Shulk for necessity, an Aggro drawer (Dunban > Reyn), and medic Sharla

Get over needing a healer, tran! I've been running shill/reyn/dunban ever since I got them all and haven't had any prOblems, even against the boss that killed you!

Also Reyn is a wonderful character and I thoroughly enjoy his voice and his quotes. He's the most lovable lovable-oaf type I've ever seen.

on Mechonis you can get good Mechon weapons for every character, so they can damage Mechons without the use of Enchant

by "necessity" I mostly refer to his Shield / Speed talents to prevent visions

the hardest boss is the chain attack tutorial boss when you only skim read the instructions imo

I really wish the Monado wasn't as good as it is, or yeah, a 4th slot was available. Melia's free topple is pretty great but it's hard to want to take her over Shulk, and a lack of good healing means she can't replace Sharla. And in additiion, AI is terrible, liking to stay far away where her buffs do absolutely no good.

Meanwhile Sharla prefers charging up to get into shooting range and standing underneath giant spider mech feet

the game already crawls with 3 when there's too much action on the screen. I'd hate to see what would happen if we added a fourth.

I realise calling any game on the wii "technically impressive" is laughable, but it is impressive how much draw distance they managed to pull out of the thing, and the number of monsters on screen etc. There's at least one point where you can see a quest item from like halfway across the zone.

I would totally love a 4th slot, I'm just seriously itching to fit another person in to join my regular party

and yeah, the party's AI is terrible, like nobody actually uses their movies to get maximum effectiveness out of them - like using up topple/daze moves when enemies aren't in break/topple, or using Back Slash moves while you're facing right towards the enemy. Even if they have a chance to use a move well, they often don't use it.

Multiplayer support would be so cool, like I got my brother to start his file the other day, and the whole time I was thinking how awesome it would be if a second player was controlling another character - especially with the whole break/topple thing. And other players getting agro and stuff, there's just so much potential there.

I'd say don't control Shulk much, his AI handles himself better than most of the other AI handle themselves. Unless you abuse his monado arts, I guess, which he'll do on his own sometimes still.

But you'll never see enough Berserker Magnum Charge Sword Drive from Reyn! Or anything remotely competent from Melia. Or the right use of Dunban at all with his auras and gale slash comboing.

What's with all the people arguing over party "setups" like it's some permanent thing? I mean, do you guys like... not rotate party members around so you get to see all the flavours of the battle system? Not to mention if you use the same party all the time you miss out on pretty much all the cool interactions, both in battle and during quests, and you also don't get affinity...

That just seems like a completely stupid way to play the game. I change combinations like, every five minutes, usually to make a party that fits the moment. If I'm in Colony 6 I'll use Sharla and if I'm in Alcamoth I'll use Melia, and so on, so that I am more likely to get extra dialogue in quest conversations and stuff like that. And if I'm fighting someone with a connection to certain party members, no way am I not going to use those members in the battle.

So do you just not even understand what they're saying during battles?

Actually, I know enough Japanese to understand at least 50% of what they're saying. But I always enjoy media in their original language regardless. Dubbing is a stupid practice any way you look at it.


PS: I've played at a pretty reasonable pace and now I'm finally getting close to the finale at 130 hours clocked. The reviewers calling this a 40 or 60-hour game must have been doing it very wrong. Well, I guess it's their job to actually beat the game within the deadline so they probably rushed it, but man what an underestimate.

Also this is a sure top 10 game ever for me, and I've played a lot of games. Best game since Super Mario Galaxy!
