From: Uglyface2 | Posted: 8/30/2011 2:54:30 AM | #400 Is there a chance of this coming to another console? I realize it just hit the Wii, but I've got no room to put another console so I could play this.
it's a Nintendo game >_>

I do change people around, but it's mostly for affinity- Shulk is still the most fun character for me by far for me,, and at this point I'm purposely underlevelled so I stop steam rolling everything which means I tend to have to roll tank/sharla/dps.
When go back to doing side quests I'll change it around, maybe after I get the last party member.
As for voices, I don't think it's so clear cut- Reyn's pretty bad in both languages, but Dunban's british voice edges it out. Shulk is also probably better in chav-speak. Riki and Metal Face are clear winners in japanese though!

This so much. I'd been seeing the plot twists coming all game long and feeling pretty smart about it, and I knew something was going to happen involving certain shady characters, but no way was I prepared for this.
40 hours in I was still trying to get all the missable quests on the Bionis' Leg done before anything happens, I think. Of course, it turned out I had more time than I feared.
It's all about balancing the questing and the story so you don't end up with hundreds of quests on the backlog. That would be a chore. At the same time you don't want to be overlevelled, so doing ALL the available quests as soon as you get them is not a good way to play IMO.
I usually put off the generic quests and focus on the ones from named characters. Some of them have very important rewards.
You sure as heck won't until you've beaten the game. Isn't he over level 90? You simply don't get enough EXP for that anywhere if you're not at endgame. Remember, you get less and less EXP depending on your level. I'm level 66 now which is about 6-7 levels below the bosses at this point, and just going one area back means getting like 80 EXP from the enemies that gave thousands of EXP a couple hours ago.
Besides, is beating some random monster really worth ruining all the epic boss fights in the game?
like I said earlier I just can't bring myself to go on with the story until I'm certain I've re-checked every area 2-3 times to make sure every quest possible has been completed at that time. Moving ahead with the story so carelessly like that would just make me nervous and unable to enjoy my experience

Now this I can agree with. Like I said before, all the missable quests make me really anxious about continuing the story sometimes. But as long as I'm sure I get all the quests in each area, there's no rush to actually complete them as long as there's no clock symbol on them. As for the places with missable quests... better make sure to re-talk to everyone after completing quests, since new(also missable) stuff pops up for practically every quest you finish, and a lot of it doesn't put exclamation marks on the characters in question!
Even though I've been so careful I've still missed a few things though, stuff you don't get any warnings for, like
Well, I still haven't beat the game, but all signs point to yes. Without going into detail, it should be obvious which ones are missable based on their location.
Just reading the first few lines of these posts makes Xenoblade sound very enticing. Honestly, I still think NoA will release this next year, where it will serve as the Wii's swan song in the US. I'll buy it then.

There's japanese wikis like http://www35.atwiki.jp/xenoblade/ which have the numbers of quests that are timed per area; admittedly you need an auto translate tool like google/rikaichan, (or even better speak japanese lolo) but it's a good site for information. There's another one that has the "drop" rates and co-ordinates of stuff for the collectopedia, but I can't remember the link.
(23 quests possible timed in the camp btw)
also: clipping issues are great. Heartfelt reunion, hugger disappeared into a fluff of feathers.

One thing I wondered: Can all cutscenes in the game take place any time of the day? Like, the initial Mechon attack happened during the night, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but could it have happened in daylight?

and Dunban's return after the Central Pit happened during a thunderstorm at night
Same here. Maybe at least that one is scripted? In any case, once I realized the weather and time of day affected the cutscenes, my instincts as a film maker made me start to set the time before cutscenes to create the most appropriate mood... like sunsets at potentially romantic occasions and night whenever Mechon showed up(Tron lines work best at night, said captain Obvious).
When I got to the Colony 6 area and then after the mines, it wouldn't stop storming for the longest time, and that scene happened at night for me as well.
What about Bionis Knee when you first look at the two gods? It happened at sunset for me, and the video I saw on youtube a while back was at sunset as well.
Daytime for me I think. That one wouldn't have worked well at night.
Man, the experience must be quite different depending on such a simple factor. Some of the cutscenes I can't imagine at any other time than the one I saw them. It's like having the Zanarkand scene in FFX take place during a dark stormy night - it wouldn't have been the same game at all!
I made sure to stock up on the stuff I got told I would need when at potentially one-time locations. I still missed a couple of collectibles from one area, but I don't think it will be a problem to trade for those.
Definitely stay on top of the restoration there, though. Pretty sure you can miss some invitations if you don't get high enough levels within certain points in the story. Then again, there's only room for half of the potential visitors anyway so you'll likely still get a full town no matter how long you delay.
I used a chain attack, got a combo going, every single attack missed except my final attack (Melia's Elemental Discharge), but that one attack did 36k damage
I had no idea comboing one colour of arts to Max did that much of a boost
jeesh this game is difficult to get, went to 5 stores in Limerick yesterday all of them sold out of it saying there was "unprecedented demand". Had a look on ebay ireland and they're selling for 70-100 euro each which is up to double the market price. Finally ordered it on cd-wow and today I get an automated "out of stock" e-mail from them. ffs.
according to rumours from retailers, Nintendo regarded Xeno etc as fanservice games. Apparently they didn't realise "wait people actually want this game" until it was too late.
I think there was supposed to be like 38k copies shipped for western europe or something...?
