I look forward to the Reeder/Williams III transitions in Batwoman, assuming they're on a scene basis and not a book basis.

It is a graphic novel, it's just not an original graphic novel (OGN). Trades are graphic novels. I know it's a pet peeve that some don't say comics and just say graphic novels, but we can still say graphic novels.

We wouldn't be able to call Watchmen a graphic novel either then, if collected things aren't... hah yeah I don't even remember what we're talking about.

PROTIP FOR NOT ALIENATING PEOPLE:

When they say "omg X is such a good graphic novel," you don't have to lecture them on what is a graphic novel and what isn't.

Well, not immediately, at least.

My Literature teacher last year opened his class by literally lecturing us on what the definition of a graphic novel is. And he's a college professor so what the hell do I know.

I kinda covered that point, but yes it is both a graphic novel and a collected book of comics. I mean, the definition of graphic novel... yeah semantics are fun. But it's silly to say Elegy isn't a graphic novel. It is, it's just not an original graphic novel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphic_novel

I know wiki, but yes any definition of graphic novel, people do call trades graphic novels.

Bombcast over, NON-COMICS PODCAST TIME

The Art of Wrestling - http://tsmradio.com/coltcabana/
Duration: 1 hour
Releases: Weekly

It's a podcast about wrestling. Simple enough! Colt Cabana is the host, and he is quite possibly the funniest wrestler out there. Each week, he interviews someone from the world of professional wrestling. It could be a referee, a WWE wrestler, an independent wrestler, an all-time great, whoever. Colt is such a personable guy, and it really helps his interviews. His interviews are funny, fresh, and most importantly, open. He recently interviewed the referee present in the ring when Owen Hart died. Colt previously interviewed an openly gay Mexican wrestler who spoke about receiving death threats in his home country because of his sexual orientation. It's a really good podcast, even for those who don't care about wrestling.

The Giant Bombcast - http://www.giantbomb.com/podcast/
Duration: 2-3 hours
Releases: Weekly

You guys know about this by now. If not, the Bombers talk about all things video games, and whatever else is going through their head at the moment. Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, Patrick and Brad have fantastic chemistry and insightful things to say about everything. It's the podcast I look forward to the most.

Fresh Air - http://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/
Duration: 40 minutes
Releases: Daily

From their site: Though Fresh Air has been categorized as a "talk show," it hardly fits the mold. Its 1994 Peabody Award citation credits Fresh Air with "probing questions, revelatory interviews and unusual insights." And a variety of top publications count Gross among the country's leading interviewers. The show gives interviews as much time as needed, and complements them with comments from well-known critics and commentators.

The quality varies depending on the guest, but Terry Gross is a capable interviewer, and the subject matter is broad enough that each show sounds fresh -- sorry.

Reasonable Doubts - http://freethoughtblogs.com/reasonabledoubts/
Duration: 1ish hour(s)
Releases: Twice a month. Mostly.

Another favourite. It's a podcast about philosophy, ethics, and religion. The hosts are funny and intelligent and, most importantly, they don't look down on other world views. They may disagree with certain ones -- namely any world view that has a God at the top -- but they treat all religions with equal respect and argue very thoroughly for what they believe. Highly recommended. It's not as eye-opening for me as it may be for some of you, but that's only due to my wide reading of all the things these guys talk about.

How Stuff Works / Stuff You Missed In History Class - http://www.howstuffworks.com/
Duration: 30 minutes
Releases: Bi-weekly (each)

Two podcasts with the same format, from the same website. Informative on all subjects, from cheese to terrorism to ancient Chinese history, in an easily digestible format. I usually let these podcasts pile up and listen to them in bunches.

This American Life - http://www.thisamericanlife.org/
Duration: 1 hour
Releases: Weekly

The best radio show. It's filled with well-researched stories about, as the title implies, all manners of American life. Each episode has a theme that all the stories, or "acts," follow, told by a different storyteller/journalist, and it's all hosted by one of the best voices in Ira Glass. So good. Everyone should listen.

Radiolab - http://www.radiolab.org/
Duration: Varies, but doesn't go over an hour.
Releases: Twice a month

It's like This American Life if This American Life was quirky and from New York.

Kevin Pollak's Chat Show - http://www.kevinpollakschatshow.com/
Duration: 1-2 hours
Releases: Weekly

Kevin Pollak, the actor, is hilarious, and has better interviews with actors like Bryan Crantson, Alison Brie, Joel McHale (among others) than any other talk show. Very in-depth. If you don't watch much TV this might not be for you, but if you even watch a little, this show should be part of your life.

Planey Money - http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/
Duration: 20 minutes
Releases: When they feel like it. Usually bi-weekly.

From their site: Planet Money is a multimedia team covering the global economy. We produce a twice-weekly podcast and create radio stories for Morning Edition, All Things Considered and This American Life. We also write a blog.

We think a lot of people feel overwhelmed by the global economy. They know it's affecting their lives. But they don't know how to dive in, and they don't find most stories in most media outlets helpful.

We're lucky. We work at NPR and can call the leading economic thinkers and ask them to explain things to us. Slowly.

So we've built what we hope will be a fun, safe, exciting, accessible place for people to explore the global economy and what it's doing to them. We have two rules for ourselves: 1. Everything has to be interesting (and, preferably, fun or funny or poignant or somehow grabby). 2. Everything should be economically smart, but not economically dull.

Great tagline, and very accurate.

The Tobolowsky Files - http://www.slashfilm.com/category/features/slashfilmcast/the-tobolowsky-files/
Duration: 1 hour
Releases: Monthly.

It's This American Life meets Kevin Pollak's Chat Show. Tobolowsky is a wonderful, engaging, and sincere storyteller. I've only recently started listening to this show, at Cokes' suggestion, and I'm loving it. Character actors have a lot on their mind, apparently!

So, what about you guys?

here's a podcast i listen to:

http://kisamayatsu.com/dad/

some guys from the something awful lets play subforum play dungeons and dragons

no come back please

they're all funny people and their adventures are definitely not typical fantasy adventures. it's all very based in comedy, dumb jokes, and character interaction. there are very few 'random encouters,' with most of the fighting serving some purpose in the overall scheme of the game. also, the pre and post game banter almost serves as a another podcast by itself.

it's on hiatus right now, but should be starting again in the next couple of months.

Me, my dad, and a few of his friends waited in line at Wal-Mart to get a PS3, trying to sell them on eBay.

Fun experience. Watching Inside Man on portable DVD player, people in line were cool with you leaving and going to the bathroom/going to McDonalds inside the building, etc. One poor bastard was camped out there with his girlfriend to actually play it. Waiting three days and nights to pay $600 bucks and play Resistance: Fall of Man. Good move, buddy
