The former is preffered by most, yet it burns out really fast. You get all these rules and restrictions as it proceeds to burst into flames because people hate knowing they don't know squat on what they think they did. Some find the information cool and enbrace it (eg, me) , others don't. The problem hits when you mix in fanboyism to that as it kills it for everyone else (see rand) and the burnout begins fast. People hate things that overwhelm. Dorsnt matter if it's feats over time or a lot of power. And there are few solutions to that. Short version, you did it wrong to begin with kan, and don't know how to do it right. But thaat's fine if you want a goofier one. Call me a fool, but I think the interest for a serious MPFC tourney is there, if matches like Luke/Sovereign are an indication. And I'm not opposed to silliness, to an extent - Urza/Ocelot is the match of the contest so far and I found it entertaining because interesting points were made on both sides, some inanity aside. I also don't think the top tier of power, AKA reality warpers, is inherently harmful to the contest. Letting people run with stupid arguments like the Doctor replacement one here is stupid, for instance.
