Boston can go after CP3 and destroy their chemistry all they want, Knicks are about to sign Chandler.

Literally our #1 need being filled with the best possible player.

Boston's not

But the Rockets aren't getting anything, and the Lakers are losing Bynum.

Odom and Bynum for Paul, the deal is allegedly done.

Boston would be fools to trade Rondo for CP3. CP3 is a stat machine and that's it.

Now the Lakers just need to pony up for Howard, and they will win championships the last few years of Kobe's career.

I am pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that the league owns the Hornets.

Makes sense, Stern loves his powerhouse teams. Especially if it's L.A or Boston.

What would have been better was if the trade went through and Paul left LA next year anyway.

Short, condensed season with a new coach and not a lot of practice time could have affected them negatively.

Would have preferred that over Lakers getting Howard.

the opening post was referring to the celtics going after paul with no hope of getting him BTW. i was so happy when they got involved because i knew all that they would accomplish is pissing off rondo

i hope rondo just stands on the court giving dual middle fingers to danny ainge's luxury box and refusing to touch the ball until he's benched, and then continuing to do so from the bench until he gets cut and the knicks sign him (only 6 years after we should have had him to begin with, although in isiah's defense renaldo balkman is a stud and easily a top 5 player at his position in the le-WAIT WHAT!?)

The only reason teams rejected this offer was because LA was going to pay less luxury tax.

He pandered to the small city owners in a league that has 90% of its popularity in Boston/L.A/New York.

Well those owners are all people that paid like 10 million to have partial stake in the Hornets, and then the Hornets (a team they own) are going to make a move that costs them all a million bucks, and only two of the owners actually benefit from it. Gilbert is a whining mess and always has been, but I can see why most other owners would move to veto the trade.

I know very little but didn't they say this wouldn't be a problem when they first bought shares and that they would act in the Hornets' best interest? Now it seems like Paul won't play this year (he didn't show up for camp) and that his contract ends this year and no way is he resigning. So basically, they won't have him this year anyway and they won't have anything when he leaves next year. So basically the Hornets are screwed.

Then why didn't they ***** about these trade talks a lot sooner?

The owners don't care if Paul went to, say...the Timberwolves. They're only complaining because it's a big BIG market team in the Lakers, even though the move itself actually hurts them the most.

I think the small-market owners also fear that the Lakers MIGHT get Howard and the best way to nix the possibility (emphasize possibility, and it's a very small one) of another superteam is to nix Paul going to LA.

Regardless, it's pathetic that just now they're ****ting all over Demps.

I think it comes down to tickets. Luis Scola and Lamar Odom aren't going to sell tickets like Chris Paul can. it's a typical owner move when you really think about it, it's just super weird because it's Stern protecting his investment and not someone who actually owns the team.

they need to fix this situation and fast. it'd be cool if someone could throw in more players and this deal gets done so the league can save some face.

it sounds like Dallas is getting a huge trade exception in the Chandler signing for New York. if that's true, they could theoretically trade for a max-type player and just absorb the salary. that won't be enough to get Howard or Paul, but maybe somebody smaller (Nene?)

The guy posts one of the top offensive ratings the last few years, THE best true shooting percentage two of the last three years (finished 2nd last year), and his win shares per 48 was in the top 10 that last two season.

With the lack high quality centers in the league, it's overpaying but not by much. You're getting a top 5 center in the league.

Right, and Nene wouldn't even in the top 10 in terms of pay. In fact, his first year salary wouldn't be in the top 15.

Guys like Nene are certainly more deserving of that money than guys like Joe Johnson and Gilbert Arenas.

Nene is a top 25 talent getting paid like a top 15. That doesn't seem like a stretch at all.

I bring up Arenas and Johnson because of the league's obsession with guards and will always overpay guards and short-change their PFs and Cs. Take a look at Josh Smith, who is on a ridiculously good deal.

If you're going to overspend, overspend on frontcourt help that's actually very good.

Odom for the Chandler trade exception, interesting. Lakers knew they had ruined Odom and gave him away to avoid any bad blood. Dallas/LA should be pretty high-tension when the season starts.

as for LA, they have the ability to get someone good now but they need someone to trade with them. Bynum or Gasol + the exception won't be enough for Howard so I don't think they'll get him, but maybe some other team looking to shed salary would want the exception.

so what exactly does that trade exception do? should i want chandler more than that?

chris broussard is telling me that the knicks can afford paul through a mid-level exception next offseason, but it's hard to see him not signing with the lakers out of spite now, especially if they get dwight

but maybe he'll be willing to sign with us for pennies once he successfully sues the nba for $150 mil!
