Like that for Buffy 4 and Angel 1.

Eh, the first two seasons of Angel were on the same network as Buffy so you can watch them back-to-back and get the same experience the original viewers did. After that the viewing order does get a bit different, but I don't see any reason to deviate from the aired order.

Why does viewing order matter so much? I assumed the list that ngirl posted was based on the airing date for each episode.

They pretty much air one after another.

I'm not sure exactly what ngirl's viewing order is but it seems well thought out and would mean not having to switch between shows after every episode.

I'm sure either way would work fine.

when I said "viewing order" i meant "airing order"...not sure why I made that mistake.

and I have NO IDEA what ngirls list was based off of. according to imdb, each episode aired on the same date

so you can just watch episode 1 of each, then 2 of each, etc.

Even though they're aired on the same date I'm pretty sure there are some same-day episodes that have cross-overs. I'm not sure since I watched all of Buffy before Angel, but I think it's best to alternate.

Well, watching Angel and buffy at the same time certainly enhances the experience of both shows... It's like playing Suikoden II without having played Suikoden I. It'll certainly still be awesome, but also knowing about what's going on in the first game makes the second one better.

Actually, alternating doesn't work and will confuse you greatly cause the timeline doesn't match up at all at times... I wouldn't say ngirl's timeline is perfect, I have a different one I like more, but it's certainly better than just alternating.

I've been watching through season 4 of Buffy and Season 1 of Angel concurrently and I'm about halfway. Looking at the crossovers I've seen so far alternating should work if you start with Buffy episode 1. You'll have to switch every episode though and sometimes that kinda ruins the mood when you are into one shows atmosphere.

Ngirl's list is designed to let you watch a couple episodes in a row while still being safe from missing something. IIRC it was made especially for people watching on DVD's so they don't have to switch the discs too often.

It LOOKS like she got that list from this website:(Zazi might want to avoid going to it for now)
http://buffyfest.blogspot.com/2009/04/buffyangel-episode-watching-guide.html

Hers is much cleaner since she has episode numbers, that website instead uses episode names which might be a bit spolierish. Zazi probably shouldn't go to it right now, but it does have lists for later seasons too.

Season 3, Episode 17: Enemies

In which Angelus comes back, oh wait no he doesn't lolol psyche we know you are bad now Faith.

So yeah, smoke and mirrors and all that here. Can't say I would've predicted that to be the resolution of the episode. I'm still a little unclear of how it all worked out, but I guess the magic ninja demon guy just went to Giles first when the Mayor summoned him and they hatched that plan. It was nice to get a small taste of Angelus again, though, and Buffy's calm verbal slaying of Faith was pretty awesome.

The Mayor did his thing and was a treat as always (Calcium! Miniature Golf!) I'm excited to hear more of his backstory and find out more about what this ascension deal is. In good time, I imagine. The one thing I caught is that Wilkins built Sunnydale. Hopefully this means there won't be any MotW stuff coming up now that they know what the main plot is, but I wouldn't imagine if it is handled the same was as Angelus was handled in Season 2 where Faith just serves as an inconvenience during those plots.

Principal Snyder hasn't been around recently. That's disappointing. I assume this means he isn't really a big piece of The Mayor's plans. I guess I'll expect that when The Mayor is defeated, Principal Snyder will become the next Mayor of Sunnydale, or something

Faith is a ***** and I can't wait to see her get what's coming to her.

Angelus had to appear during all the MotW episodes in S2 because his actor was contracted as a main character to appear in all 22-episodes.

Faith doesn't have that clause, so if there are more MotW episodes (I honestly don't remember) they wouldn't be forced to fit her in.

Season 3, Episode 18: Earshot

In which Buffy can read minds and Xander was right all along.

Yay mind reading plots. This reminds me that I need to watch What A Woman Wants.

This was a fun episode, nothing more and nothing less. Not really much to talk about, really. Humor was there, and I guess there was some deep meaning about everyone having struggles and yadda yadda. Standard 90s (or has it turned to 00s yet?) moral story. I don't know. The Buffy-Angel stuff was kind of lame, really, but I can understand where she is coming from I guess. Yeah, this was just filler, but enjoyable.

Season 3, Episode 19: Choices

In which Willow gets captured, spiders are in a box, and UC Sunnydale exists.

This episode seemed to have a lot of build up for what is probably going to happen in the finale, that being Angel goes away (and Cordelia too). It seems to be hinting at a Faith turn as well, which I'll wait to pass judgment on. It'll be nice to finally know more about this Ascension next episode after Giles has studied the pages Willow got for him. I'm also curious about what they have as the problem that is egging Cordelia. Her exchanges with Xander are always really interesting and I hope they have a final scene together.

I know Buffy's standardized test scores are good, but I have to imagine her GPA isn't. How the hell does she get acceptance into Northwestern? And don't they need, like, letters of recommendation for that application process or something? Well, I guess she would use Giles for that so nevermind. But still, her grades dammit. But whatever.

Really? No one has given the Earshot factoid yet? Well I guess Cyclo breifly mentioned it, but I think he may have the order of events wrong.

So here's the deal, Earshot was set to air the week after the Columbine shooting. That's right, this episode wasn't written because of Columbine like many people think, it was written and filmed before the shooting occured. Oops! As you can imagine the network pulled the episode and it didn't air until 6 months later. They aired it for the first time the week before season 4 began.

Joss marveled out how horrible the timing of that episode would have been.

I did enjoy the verbal smackdown by Willow on Faith. The pencil thing was clever enough, as well, and a good call back to something we had seen earlier in the season. I really enjoy the way the writing interweaves so many different things that have been mentioned along the way. But yes, Willow is still not my most favorite character and I can't really explain why. She is simply okay, but has her moments. I imagine I'll start to enjoy her more in the later seasons.

The Columbine thing is just an unfortunate coincidence. They're lucky it was a one-shot MotW episode, or things might have gotten very interesting there.

Season 3, Episode 20: The Prom

In which Buffy and Angel break up and the gang goes to prom.

I was impressed with how well done this episode was. The thickness of the Buffy-Angel relationship was annoying and I didn't have high hopes, but the subsequent dissolution and the events that followed were great. Buffy's crusade to give her friends the perfect evening was sweet and admirable, and I like how no curves were really thrown in her pulling it off. Indeed, I enjoyed how the final ten minutes or so were just the prom. There were no villains, it was just that perfect night that everyone wanted, and seeing a night in Sunnydale go exactly the way it was meant to was a refreshing change, and the awareness and recognition of Buffy's work was a sweet touch.

The Buffy-Angel thing is over, and hopefully that's it. Hopefully the deed has been done, and the two can work side by side for a couple of episodes, have one final goodbye scene together, and that is that. And hopefully Season 4 doesn't start with Buffy mourning the loss of her love. It'd be understandable if she did, but goodness we already got that at the start of this season.

Anya was pretty cute. I don't know what the plans for her are, but I wouldn't be opposed if she sticks around. Cordelia's story is a sad one, but it was nice seeing Xander come through for her. I'm hoping there is one last, bigger scene planned for the two, though. Although I'm just assuming Cordelia leaves after graduation this season. I have to assume the Wesley-Cordelia thing is just humor, and there is nothing serious actually developing.

I imagine these next two episodes is when the **** will hit the fan. I'm looking forward to it, especially after this episode. The good times were had, now it's time to roll up the sleeves and get to work.

Great topic. But let me be the one millionth person to say it's weird that you don't like Willow. I loved her so much, especially in the early seasons, she was my favorite character in the show by far. Of course Alyson Hannigan was the whole reason I started watching Buffy to begin with (and specifically how awesome she was in American Pie 2) - but I loved the way her character was written too (I'm not nearly as big a fan of her character in HIMYM).
