You should start a running vs. tally. Keep track of which episode you like more of Buffy or Angel.

Right now, I assume the score would be Angel: 2 and Buffy: 0.

I've had tons of roommates, and I just love how that episode really shows what it's like to live with something. You just start getting annoyed but the smallest and most pointless of things. And as you get annoyed with eachother things just escalate into some kind of cold war. It was sooo accurate.

Until the demon part I guess.

This was actually one of my least favorite episodes ever for exactly this reason. They showed what roommates are really like, which means Buffy was being completely unreasonable when she insisted her roommate must be a demon. But then she magically turns out to be right, and gets to say "I told you so" to all her friends. I guess you can say it's "slayer instincts", but I really hated it. I liked Buffy's character for the first 3 seasons, but after this episode I disliked her for a long time.

Uh, Buffy's soul was being stolen by the roommate the whole episode so she was becoming unreasonably cruel and super suspicious, like a vampire.

So it wasn't just Buffy being a ***** or something.

Maybe if I was alternating episodes I would do this, but since I'm not, I don't really see a point. I'll probably naturally keep a "Buffy vs. Angel" meter going in my head, though, that I'll mention from time to time. And you are correct that Angel would probably be winning right now.

That's why I liked it. It was clear she was overreacting and wanting her to be a demon because she hated her (I believe Joss makes a comment about how many people think their roommates are demons), but because its Sunnydale she actually gets to be right and kill her.

It's one of those "if only" episodes. If only all the horrible roommates irl were actually monsters that we could kill.

Buffy - Season 4, Episode 3: The Harsh Light of Day

In which Spike comes back, everyone has sex, and girls get their feelings hurt.

I really wish I hadn't caught the credits, because Spike's return reveals are always fun. He's still charming and fun to have on screen, and hopefully he sticks around for a little while longer.

The episode title is pretty nifty, capturing that morning after feeling you get after a night have adult fun. I personally think Harmony should've died this episode, but whatever. Buffy regretting her sexual adventure again is nice and I'm interested to see how that will be used in the continuity. Anya is an intriguing character as well, and I'm really interested in seeing where her story goes, too. I don't pity her as much, though, because Xander truly did have more important things to worry about this episode.

The Gem of Amara crossover is fun. I assume it'll be addressed in the next episode of Angel, and that will make things a lot easier for him to run around.

The first good episode of Buffy this season, and I'm pleased. Let's get back to the good stuff.

Next up: Angel 3

Angel - Season 1, Episode 3: In the Dark

In which Spike comes back again, a pedophile loves torture, and Angel decides the sewers are a perfectly suitable means of transportation.

Yay crossovers. This was done incredibly well, I loved the introduction of Spike. I was laughing audibly throughout the entire scene. All the inside jokes between Angel, Oz, Cordelia, and Spike were fun as well. Damn I love prevalent continuity.

The plot was good, and I liked how it was basically a slight rehash of the Buffy one where Spike is trying to get the ring and the good guys keep getting in his way. I loved the torture guy and wish they would've had him stick around a little while longer. He had a ton of potential as a chilling, creepy villain that could've potentially served as the overarching nemesis, but alas, all good one-shot villains can't survive. Spike was amazing, though, and I can't wait until he is an every episode member of the cast of either show, and I can't wait to see the reasoning for why.

I liked the reasoning Angel had for destroying the ring and continuing his conquests at night. A touching speech, really. It just sucks I'm going to have to keep assuming "sewers" when he gets around during the day.

Very good episode. I'm hoping now that they'll start to establish an overarching plot for the season now.

Next up: Angel 4

Maniac fun fact time. The Spike voiceover scene was a late edition to the script based on how much Joss loved Seth Green doing it in The Italian Job. Having Seth in this episode inspired him.

Angel - Season 1, Episode 4: I Fall to Pieces

In which the team needs money, Angel battles Mr. Potato Doctor, and the team gets money.

Not too much to say about this episode, though I did enjoy it. The villain gimmick was quirky and unique enough to keep me interested throughout. I was disappointed with the resolution, though. It all seemed too sudden, what with Melissa suddenly going all "I'm not scared of you" and the doctor not needing long before he deteriorated. But that's a matter of context that can't really be controlled. I knew the lady cop would have a recurring role in the show, I'll just be interested to see how much so.

Yeah I think so.

I think it was Seth Green who remembered the scene being filmed and just started doing it on Italian Job. I know the Italian Job commentary says it wasn't in the script and was just him improving. And I know there was an interview years back about Seth being in both that episode and the movie not being a coincidence.

This is what I get for going off memory of facts from years back.

Buffy - Season 4, Episode 4: Fear, Itself

In which they attempt the "fears manifested" plot from Season 1 again, and yet again botch it.

I was really into this episode up until the conclusion. It had been intense, and it seemed like it was going to really start exploring the characters in a deeper way. That's more than I can say for the similar Season 1 plot about nightmares. But that ending. They took all of the build up and defused it with "haha isn't this funny?" Admittedly, I did find it funny. But I wasn't looking for a humorous conclusion after having been invested in the plot up until that point.

There were other negatives. I hate how I assume that ever boy Buffy comes into contact with feels like a romantic interest. Please have something else planned for that Riley TA guy. I really don't like that professor lady. This is a freshman class. A freshman psych class, at that. There's no need to be tough as balls. Of course, it probably doesn't help that I was a psych major and had no experiences whatsoever like the one she is offering. Psych is not a weed out course regardless. ***** be full of herself. Also, the episode had too much "what the hell is going on?" and not enough "this is what's going on we need to stop it" and that's probably a by product of the disappointing resolution. Also, Willow blowing up at Buffy was quite random. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a byproduct of the fear, but I hadn't caught onto any hints before then that Willow was feeling like a sidekick.

I did enjoy the episode up until the end, though. Some good humor, and I've really grown to like Anya and I hope she stays around for a long while. Also, I got to say hello to the Black Ranger.

Let's move on from this episode.

Next up: Buffy 5 (through 7)

Man, the ending of Fear, Itself is one of the best moments in Buffyverse.

Xander - "Who's a little fear demon? Come on. Who's a little fear demon?"
Giles - "Don't taunt the fear demon."
Xander - "Why? Can he hurt me?"
Giles - "No, it's just tacky."

Yep, I loved the "actual size" comment.

But to me Buffy Halloween episodes are all about humor so I was not expecting anything serious going in.

Besides this is the episode with Oz "dressing up" as God, Xander preparing for another "you are your costume" event, Fiesta Chainsaw Giles, and Anya's bunny phobia. Such a fun episode!
