I tend to play characters at an adequate level after spending 5 seconds with them in training mode, and a good level after 10 matches or so.

Too bad I tend to be great with characters almost never.

I played some good Asuka's online and it seems like she's pretty much just combos/blockstrings that take 20 seconds each and eat all the clock. Her as a second character is a depressing sight because you know you can't come back

Sort of. I have 3SO, but I've barely played it. Would be willing to have a few games some time if you want, but don't expect much!

Also it's important to note that I'm only good early in the lifespan of fighting games. I was, like, #4 on the MvC3 leaderboards for awhile, but I'm barely competent at it these days. Even if I'm way better now (I don't really agree that I'm far ahead of Weaku using his Cammy/Lili team, if I'm ahead at all), everyone will probably catch up by the time the second edition of SFxT that Capcom swears won't happen happens.

it's rough on bad connections unless you bump the ggpo frame delay up to a frame or two. I don't think you'll ever have to go about 2. it's pretty similar to sfxt's netcode, just with more functional sound. and being able to buffer the connection with frame delay helps a lot. lets you strike a balance between SF4 style input lag and SFxT style rollbacks.

yup. I play Elena a lot online, since I don't lose much with Chun and that's no fun. she's very viable once you figure out how to play her, and she's a character with a reputation for getting better online. I'm pretty skeptical of that myself, since unless you're in ridiculous lag you should be able to react to her mixups games on sight, but it's undeniable that you'll see a lot more Elenas online than you will in real life (they're all bad though).

Q is way tougher. he's viable, but you gotta be really patient. he doesn't have much of an offensive game, he basically makes his living turtling, parrying a lot, and punishing when the opportunity arises. he's a challenging character, especially to start with. I think skull bonek mained him when OE started and he got frustrated pretty quick.

I don't actually hate Cammy that much in SF4, I recognize that I suck against her because I don't know how to play that game.

Twelve is not a 3S character. he's annoying, his only offense is random air dash ins, and he has a moveset designed for him to play keep away. he's either the worst or second worst character in the game, but it doesn't matter because every second you spend playing against him is a moment your life is getting worse. he just does random s*** and it either works or it doesn't. he's free against Chun but he makes Elena's life miserable.

if I had to compare him to a SSF4 character it'd be Fuerte. but Fuerte is not as bad as him by a long shot.

I think there's a lot of likable 3S characters though. 3/4 of the cast are fun to play and viable. not too many characters you can go wrong with! just don't play Twelve, god damn Oro, or hipster Sean. Sean is Dan but with none of the charm. any other character choice I can respect!
